Will protect

The girl clutched her chest tightly and Sorang glanced at her with his eyes narrowed as she placed the tray of snacks and tea on his table.

The girl exhaled deeply then her eyes widened, when she began seeing images inside her head, ones that she had never personally seen before and questions began rising up in her mind, wondering what was going on with her, as the feeling of being swallowed whole by something not under her control, lingered within her.

Sorang approached her then leaned in closer to the girl, noticing that her skin had gotten a little pale and his brows furrowed.

"Hey, are you okay?" He asked and she nodded.

"Yeah, please excuse me, I didn't mean to disturb you, if there is anything else, I will be outside," She responded, as she was about to walk away and he grabbed onto her arm.

"What's the matter with you, Adiria?" He asked.

"Nothing, please stop invading my personal space, what's the matter with you?" She asked as she looked at him with her brows furrowed as her skin colour began returning to normal.

"See? You are back to normal, I would say I am a miracle worker, don't you think?" He asked with a pretty smile on his face and her brows twitched in irritation.

'How did god give this guy a pretty face? Was he mistaken for a woman? He gets on my nerves,' She thought as she brushed his hand off of hers and he looked at her.

She stepped away from him and looked at him from head to toe as he stared at her and a few thoughts began going through her mind and due to the smug expression on her face, he knew it was nothing good.

"What kind of insulting thing are you thinking of this time, huh?" He asked with an annoyed look on his face and she smirked.

"Oh? You can make such an expression as well? What are you talking about?" She asked and his brow twitched.

"I shall take your leave," She added then left with a chuckle and he scoffed.

"She is good at getting on people's bad side... Whatever..." He mumbled, before returning to work.

After leaving his office, Adiria chuckled, and then her mind drifted back to what had just happened to her and her brows furrowed as she lowered her gaze.

'Why is this happening to me?' She wondered, before going back to work.

The girl had many things to do and there was only one day left until their celebrations started, for the emperor would be announcing the heir to his throne, even though he was still young and it was early.

"Adiira, a few magic users will be arriving this afternoon, as you know, the world we currently live in, almost everywhere you turn these days, there is someone with a magical ability, they are considered the future apparently, be careful of the ones that will come here for the celebration," Anyel said as Adiria was taking care of her child's food.

"Lady Anyel, are you worried?" She asked and Anyel nodded then Adiria sighed.

"I will keep an eye on the boy, don't worry, I will not let anything happen to him," She said and the woman smiled at her.

"Thank you, they are all fighting for power and I am afraid tomorrow, my little boy will end up in the mix of it all," She replied as she gritted her teeth and Adiria lowered her gaze.

'She has it hard, despite living such a life, she fears for the lives of the ones she cares about every day, she is different from the other women the emperor has, I heard about them, she is definitely better, that's why I will help her, I know how she feels,' She thought before patting the child on his head.

"I understand how you feel, after all, there is nothing more important than the ones you care about, I will protect him for you," She said and Anyel smiled.

"I am glad to hear that, you didn't have to go so far, it's not your job, why are you doing it?" She asked as Adiria stood up.

"Because I want to and I have intentions of getting a higher position," She responded.

"Higher position?" She asked.

"Yeah, I have goals in my life as well, are you unsatisfied with my answer?" She asked.

"No, I am not, I would be happy if you got what you want, from what I can feel, you have had a hard life yourself, do you want to be one of the emperors...." She mumbled.

Adiria chuckled, for she knew what the woman was going to ask her and Anyel glanced in her direction, wondering what's going on with her.

"No, I am never going to take such a position even if my life depended on it," She said.

"Huh? Why? When it comes with so many perks," She replied.

"Because it will take away the freedom of living my life the way I want to, I can't live by someone else's rules, I cannot live the way someone else wants me to, especially if it will make me unhappy, I won't ever let anyone throw those shackles on me," She said with a piercing look in her eyes.

Lady Anyel left staring at Adiria, unable to find the words to respond to the girl and Adiria smiled as she looked at her, the woman never thought she would hear someone refuse such a thing in her life, especially if the person was in a position like Adiria.

"I will aim for my goals, I am the type that will not let anyone get in my way, be it the emperor himself, please excuse me," She added then left the room with her eyes narrowed and the woman lowered her gaze.

That day, Adiria finished off all the work without thinking about anything else and by the end of it, it was already late in the night and she was tired, hence without any hesitation, she had her dinner, did her normal nightly routine and decided to call it quits for the day.
