He is Vali Odinson. -------- /This is more or less an AU FanFiction. MC is an OC and his name is borrowed from a character of Norse Mythology. I do not own any other character, other than a few OC's in the novel. Based the novel on the movies, but will start introducing comic elements as it goes on./ MC is a Grey character, if you dislike manipulative MC's, this novel is not for you. He's a realist, a bit cold and uncaring, bar his close family. No harem btw. /It’s my first novel, so yeah, help me out with some constructive criticism to improve my writing./

Unexpected Companion

Vali who stood silently in the cloudy space, processing everything the tree had just told him asked his last questions, "Can someone gain another divinity? If that's possible, how do we go about it?"

Yggdrasil, having expected this question from the Asgardian Prince, replied with certainty in its tone, "Haven't you always wondered why you had a secondary divinity from birth? Let's just say that I am partially responsible for it."

"Your little body was completely incapable of wielding that 'Divinity of Vengeance' of yours, which would have led to its collapse the more you used it. This was completely different from the other gods, that are blessed by tiny fragments that carefully strengthen and nourish the body, without any such problems.

There was a high chance that you would have ended up as some kind of a crippled God, completely unable to tap into your divinity without nearly killing yourself. So, I decided to follow through, making sure that your birth had no complications.

When the time of your birth came, and the laws blessed you by granting you a divinity (2nd one), I interfered by increasing the chances of you possessing a divinity, suited towards making your vessel stronger.

Because any other divinity, would've more or less been wasted. They would've remained dormant in your body, since that blessing would've increased the burden on your body.

You just happened to be lucky even with my intervention, since you were seemingly blessed with the 'Divinity of Strength' which passively enhanced your body. Not too rare, but just what you needed to properly use your main divinity." replied the tree, completely unconcerned by the changes in Vali's face.

By this point in time, Vali was fed up with all the things he didn't know, as he came to learn a lot about himself ever since he had entered this 'trial'.

The Tree had 'supposedly' helped him a lot, and considering that it was a neutral being, he knew that it didn't associate with charity. The entire scenario reeked of a plot, and Yggdrasil obviously knew a lot about him, making it harder to believe that he wasn't its pawn.

He froze his thoughts, leaving all this for later, when he left this space. The possibility of having his mind read, made him suppress all his suspicion, keeping a stoic face on the outside.

And he didn't have to wait for long, as the tree nonchalantly continued with its 'lecture',

"As for the other gods; awakening another divinity is definitely achievable. Though it would have to be another concept under the same law, and the chances of awakening them would depend on their life experiences and mostly fate.

Focusing on one primary divinity, while using the other divinity as a support would be the ideal standard for the stability of a soul. Especially for gods at your level, any more divinities would stagger your overall growth, and strain your soul.

As for your secondary divinity, it's pretty self-explanatory as it serves as a multiplier, and you would gain more from it as you continue to strengthen your body. From what I can observe, the world-seed has begun nourishing your body as well, so you should be seeing acceptable gains during this period."

Vali more or less had already figured out the properties of his 'Divinity of strength'. Even a monkey would've been able to figure it out, if anything. His questions on attaining another divinity, had to do with the possibility of strengthening his deadbeat brothers in the future.

He didn't want to make any plans or do anything of significance in this space, where his mind was left unguarded and its privacy completely depended on the tree's morals. So, he decided to shut his thoughts and waited for the years to go by, as he remained seated.

--4 years went by, the atmosphere in this cloudy mystical space remained stagnant, seemingly unaffected by the passage of time.--

Vali had spent the years further honing his mindscape, and by looking for insights into his divinity with no gain.

The fairies had kept him company over the years, and they competed with each other to show him around the place, whenever he took a break from his meditation.

Now, having completed his final meditation, he walked around with curiosity in his eyes, as he wanted to find out as much as he could before he had to leave this mystical space. He had visited several places in this weird space/plane before, and aside from the misty fresh atmosphere, it resembled a forest from the fairytales.

The little buggers that escorted him around the place, with incessant chatter were curious beings that seemingly never got bored living here.

He had questioned the tree about their existence at one point, and when he heard about their origin & abilities, he was definitely surprised to say the least as he thought about everything he had learnt about them.

The Fae race's lineage had connections with the dark elves of Svartalfheim, and were supposedly of Celtic myth vaguely associated with Asgard. Their home was a pocket dimension right outside the universe, known as the otherworld.

When their dimension was invaded, they barely resisted a calamity, and a few managed to escape safely by jumping into the fatal chaotic regions of space. They were later rescued by the tree, so they chose to stay and repay the life-saving favour, by taking care of this magical space.

Their innate abilities were pretty insane, and Vali had a tough time believing that such a race existed. They were straightforward beings, that enjoyed flying around and playing their games, not unlike children.

Their abilities included an 'Insane talent' for Magic manipulation, so literally all of them had the potential to become sorceresses'. They had tiny insectoid wings that supported flight, and while they looked as fragile as a twig, Vali's eyes said otherwise.

They also possessed 'Immortality', essentially making them immune to aging, and the passage of time. If someone told him that they were the Almighty Creator's own favoured children, he would believe them without batting an eye.

And finally, they had an inborn talent which allowed them to switch between their physical form and their astral form. They were born from nature; thus they were extremely close to it as well.

With such talents, they could've gone to rule the universe if desired. But like all beings in the universe, they were balanced in their own way.

They had their own weaknesses, starting from their mystical powers being rendered useless by weapons made of cold-iron, or other iron-based weapons.

Their 'mental acuity' also left a lot to be desired. They weren't stupid per se, but 'most' of them remained straightforward cheerful children for life.

As his time in this space was coming to an end, he wanted to pay a visit to the place his other half inhabited for a million years. As he walked past all the greenery, filled with giant trees and magical plants, he felt something.

The environment he was approaching, had a lack of 'nature' magic if he had to accurately describe it. The regions he had just walked through to get here were obviously tended to, and taken care of by the little fairies' nature magic.

As he approached this isolated region which felt familiar, he was surrounded by the fairies which forbid him from going any further. He looked past them at the unattended, desolate region before he faced them and asked while tilting his head,

"So, what's going on? The place I want to visit is right in the middle of that region. Are you going to move or what?"

He wouldn't mind destroying the decent impressions he had built with them if he had to, for he was sure that they wouldn't ever leave this space. And he would leave soon, so he didn't really have to deal with the repercussions.

In response to Vali's question, their wings sagged as they put on wronged expressions, as they crossed their arms in an 'X' manner. They then looked at each other, and then started making their signature 'rat' squeaky sounds, as they conversed with each other.

*Chu Chu Chu*

*Chu Chu Chu Chu*

They then looked at him and engaged in a conversation, with their exaggerated arm movements and sounds. Vali had the basics of telepathy down, so he could roughly make out what they were saying.

"Wait, let me get this right. So, you aren't allowed inside because of a 'demonic' fairy, that attacks you and refuses to communicate with you?" asked Vali, as he looked at their wronged expressions.

From what Vali could understand, there lived a weird fairy in these desolate regions that stayed in solitude, away from the rest of them. It also got easily annoyed, and attacked them when they intruded its region.

It took a few moments for Vali to process what he had just heard, before it suddenly clicked. His familiarity towards this region, and the personality 'that was easily annoyed' and had anger issues. Why does that sound like him, back when he was an incomplete soul?

Just when he was about to take a look at this fairy that supposedly was similar to him, he was pulled into an illusion that weakened one's will and strengthened their fear. It was child's play for him, so he was able to shrug it off as if it never existed, as he looked at the figure that attacked him.

It was a little fairy that hovered a few metres ahead of him, with its dark purple moth-like wings. She had horns akin to a reindeer atop her black hair, with a distinctive bloody red colour surrounding her eyes.

He could feel it, a tiny resemblance to the divinity of vengeance emanating of her. He suddenly remembered who this was, as all his unclear lost memories of his other half came gushing in.

When he hid from the other fairies back when he was a tiny soul, he had taken refuge in this fairy's region. It was what kept him safe from the constant harassment from the rest of the tiny buggers, that prevented him from going mad.

He was going to take a closer look at his assailant, when the dreamy voice of the tree echoed around him, "I always knew that you would eventually meet her. Well, this couldn't be avoided either way."

Before Vali could urge her to get on with it, the tree seemingly aware of his annoyance and impatience, decided to humour him,

"Back in the otherworld dimension, she came into existence when they faced a calamity. All the fairies are brought into existence by nature itself, but she was an exception. She underwent a transformation when she was born, as the universe blessed her with the power of judgement to avert the calamity.

Obviously, it was too late as she was too young to make any difference, and could only watch helplessly as she escaped. Different from most other fairies, she was intelligent, but the power of judgement was ingrained in her very being.

But that also became her bane as she was late, and wasn't be able to pass judgment on the beings that brought forth the calamity. She was different from the other fairies, that had no duties and were happy to spend their pure childish lives in this safe mystical space.

She lost her will to live, as she isolated herself from the rest, deeming herself a failure and her righteous powers withered along with her will. That was around the time you came along, and being the 'Fairy of Judgement' she was; she protected you from the rest by chasing them away, when she found you in a broken state.

Well, when she saw the power of vengeance emanating from your soul, she attempted to placate you with her already worn-out will causing it to backfire. The massive ball of vengeance, that was your soul, in turn influenced her making her the fairy in front of you."

Before Vali could even open his mouth, he heard the tree voice its annoyance with emotion in its tone, for the first time since he had entered this space,

"Just so you know, for context if you can't remember, she used to exude a noble aura with her golden wings that screamed 'Righteous', and now she has ended up in this convoluted state. The reason I've said all this? Take her with you when you leave, she is already unstable and a threat to the rest of the little ones."

"Fairies even in their child-like states can never be fooled, they can sense people with pure hearts. As long as a person and a fairy agree, the fairy will be soul-bound to that person. You had no chance with any other fairy considering that you're anything but pure.

But this one in front of you, should suit you just fine since you both are a match made in hell. Get it done, and I will send you out as soon as you finish, as I can see that the seed has completed its fusion." The tree spoke in an unhappy tone, before its presence vanished.

Vali while having a stoic face, was pretty surprised inwardly. He could actually feel genuine annoyance from the tree's tone and that was the first time it had showed any emotion, since he had entered this place.

He thought hard and came to the conclusion that maybe the tree went out of its way to save these tiny beings, mainly to get hold of this unique fairy in front of him. And now that it was 'corrupted' by him, it was understandable that it would be annoyed.

He collected the fairy without giving it a chance to react, preventing it from escaping. He took a closer look and stared into its eyes, stating his intentions. It soon calmed down, but he wasn't planning to form any contracts yet, till he left this space and completely checked for any problems with it.

Becoming his companion would mean that, it would know the most about him as he went about his journey. So, he had to be extra careful, and only reason he even considered this fairy from a foreign space is because of familiarity he felt.

With the 'captive' fairy in hand, he continued to explore the region before his time to leave arrived.

[A.N]: The MC will be back on Asgard next chapter, and the volume will be coming to an end soon.

It has come to my notice that many readers find the novel filled with narratives, and a crucial flaw being the lack of meaningful dialogues.

Thank you all for the feedback, I'll attempt to incorporate a few dialogues little by little, in the upcoming chapters while trying to achieve a balance. Please do write any similar criticisms you find, as It helps me improve.
