Mallory the unfortunate child born from a human among a tribe of leopard demihumans was bullied and shunned since young due to her being slightly weaker, being a bearer of bad luck and because she was an easy target. Even when she kept trying to overcome her trials and difficulties, she still ended up in a poor situation and that is when her previous life’s memories returned along with a skill which had been awakened. How will she survive in the Danmachi world? I do not claim to own Danmachi, its plot or characters but there are some changes I may make to the original story and add my own characters. Mallory had been kept busy between the raids on the nobles to treating people who came to the mandatory inspection and then reading through her pile of books.
After a little rest, she was then found in a different location which was the blacksmith where she was busy learning about how they processed monster materials and other natural materials to make weapons or items.
While inspecting the cursed items and through experiments using her skill, Mallory had gained a lot and through reading a book by the author Fels, she had gained even more knowledge but she still needed to see the processes for herself to get a more accurate idea about how things were made.
Mallory had the memories of her previous life to give her the basics of clothing and item production for jewellery, clothing, talismans, charms, amulets, glass or wooden sculptures and many other things so she had a wealth of experience which could be improved upon by using them towards magic creation.
The main issue was the limitations in what she could do when the materials were still foreign to her.
Seeing the work close up and visiting different locations was helpful for her and Mallory had been able to ask questions so new ideas started to form in her mind about how to apply what she had learned to what she already knew.
Upon returning home, Mallory started by making some moulds to make parts for some items then visited the next day.
She sat in front of a hot furnace with and took out some Valis coins that she picked up on the road. "See a penny pick it up.. all day long you will have good luck. Hmm.. I should add that monster drop in too since it could possibly boost the effects."
It was a classic saying for luck along with many other superstitious practices and beliefs but it was one that Mallory continued to believe in.
As someone who suffered many misfortunes, those things were a comfort to her and she sought comfort in the belief that picking them up would give her good luck and protect her from misfortune.
Continuing the same thing had resulted in many small Valid coins being picked up by her during her walks around the city.
One persons discarded object could become another's fortune so she kept them until she had a purpose for them.
The coins were placed inside a metal container which was shaped like a cup and was held by some metal tongs while Mallory wore some gloves.
Another item was added to it which was in the shape of a horse shoe and was a monster drop which Mallory had purchased recently.
It was slowly lowered into the furnace and the coins and horse shoe began to melt into a liquid state then it was raised back up again and placed to the side.
A pouch was removed which had been opened and scattered the contents inside, purified magic dust from the magic stones had fallen in to mix with the melted coins then they were placed back inside the furnace to undergo the same process before being removed.
A talisman appeared in her hand and Mallory spoke in her native tongue. "Purify."
The white light shone onto the liquid metal and it followed with a drop of blood which had been released from a little glass container. "I hope this works."
The blood mixed into the metal but the heat caused it to let off a hissing noise as it was still extremely hot causing most of it to evaporate on contact.
The lid had been closed so the liquid and air was contained within and could not escape.
Once it cooled down, it was put back into the furnace again then another talisman was used before it had been tilted to the side.
Several different shapes were laid out from pendant shapes to bigger sized moulds for a kunai or a spear head.
The contents were poured inside and the metal started to settle and harden into the shapes of tough metal.
After some time had passed, she turned to a blacksmith who had stopped working to see what Mallory was up to. "Can you help me sharpen and handle the final finish or sanding of weapon moulds? I want to watch the final touches for myself too."
While Mallory was not heavily interested in making weapons or armour, there was still a need to experiment to test the limits of her skills.
She did not know if the purified and melted metal coins would have any special effects or if they would be improved in terms of effectiveness but if they were then there would be some confirmation about how she could mass produce some things.
All she would need to do was the initial stages to produce and purify the metals them they could be shaped or moulded depending on her or others choices.
She did not know if what she had done was anything special but Mallory hoped it was something good.
The blacksmith was a female half dwarf with slightly tanned skin, black hair and eyes so when she showed a smile, her white teeth stood out a lot. "How interesting. I really want to see if what you have done has affected the metal in any way. My name is Almura Silverhold but you can call me Al. Give me those other moulds too since they still need to have some finishing touches done to make them look better."
Mallory thought of something then took out a piece of paper. "If possible try to finish them off with these carvings of runes or patterns."
Almura was dressed in mostly eastern clothing and sandals but upon stepping by the forge, she had removed her long robe to show a vest underneath which showed her slightly muscular arms which had been gained from many years of blacksmithing. "Leave it to me."
Mallory showed excitement upon gaining some extra help. "Thanks."
Almura put the metals through a little more tempering through heating and beating them into a more solid shape until they had been perfected then sharpened.
The finishing touches were done and they each looked as shiny as a new Valis coin, the spear head and kunai looked very unique while there seemed to be something special about them. "Thanks Al. By the way.. if I can get it..then can you possibly handle a bigger shape like a pole? Will you be available to help mould or shape more? If so then please let me know."
Almura shrugged and said. "Go test those things first and let me know how they turn out then we can talk."
Mallory nodded then started to pack away some of them to carry away with her while Almura worked on the others. "I will be back!"
While replacing the spear tip on her second hand spear she gained from her familia, Mallory admired her new spear. "Bring me luck Valis!"
The spear head was very sharp and clean looking with some runic markings which had been carved into it by Almura so it looked very beautiful and while it was shaped to allow her to pierce her targets, it was a still very sharp and shaped in a way to allow it to cut her targets too.
All that was missing was a suitable staff for it to be attached to so Mallory had been waiting patiently.
She did not yet know but it would soon become the weapon of choice for her until it could no longer endure the many battles ahead.
Mallory did not know the effects her experiment had brought and the wave of purchases that it would bring.
However that was not the end of her item making experiments because she made visits to tailors and dungeon clothing craftsmen to gain tips and knowledge.
One day, Mallory was sitting in her usual spot selling her basic talismans then she unveiled her new product. "Here is the dream catcher! Have you had trouble sleeping or have you been having bad dreams? Bad dreams be gone, for the dream catcher will give you a pleasant nights sleep!"
"Pfft."
"Hmm.. such a unique item.."
"I trust in your previous talismans so I will buy one."
Some found her sales pitch laughable but there were some that had been suffering from such an ongoing problem so they decided to try it out.
Upon falling asleep, they slept so well for the first time in a long time that they did not wake up until a later time.
Finding out that it was a success, many others were interested in Mallory's newest products.
