Chapter 12 - The Plan

Sunrise…

James woke up early in the morning as usual. Before he could wake up, he saw that there was a huge hallway connected to his right side wall somehow.

His pleasant morning turned into a shocking discovery. Right after he woke up, Black appeared from the entrance of the hallway.

There was a sudden flood of information being absorbed in his mind about all the encounters in the past 27 hours of his sleep.

"What!? I slept for a whole day!? Was I that tired!?" thought James.

He immediately stood up from his bed and went down to the kitchen. He saw everyone busy with their part. After everyone noticed him, there were only smiles on their face and greeted him.

Relieved to see that everyone was fine, he went upstairs to change and freshen up.

James revised everything he could with Black's detailed explanation.

After he fell asleep, Black devoured the entire neighborhood ahead of time in 19 hours. The more it absorbed a similar element, the more proficient it will become.

After the entire neighborhood was Black's body part, it linked all the empty houses to his room.

James went down again and had breakfast as he did normally. He hung the backpack and went outside when it was 9 in the morning today.

James went away from the house and told Black to come out.

Black came out in the same manner but this time it's shape was exactly similar to that of a human, but his face remained plane.

Black repeated the same action and presented a bundle of sticks in front of James.

He picked up one of them, but this time they were heavy and James nearly struggled to pick the bundle. It was obvious that a fusion of both the metal bar and concrete was in front of him.

He only said, "Awesome, Black! You are the best!" hastily.

Black was satisfied with the praise he got from James and returned underground.

James had a lot of plans on hand now. The quest he received was not cleared yet, and he had already got a rough design of shelter.

He was confident enough to complete the quest, so he didn't dismantle the hallway.

James had planned to bait a hundred of zombies towards him and let Black capture them in a tree cage.

Dealing with this huge number of zombies alone was suicide if the person was not in their right mind.

But dealing with 6 or 12 zombies was child's play for James. If his plan had no problem, he would be an E -rank hunter the next morning with a shelter to manage.

Afternoon...

He packed up and left for the zombies.

There were only a few he could finish off in his sight without any effort.

In a few minutes, he arrived at the previous location at which he left after clearing the F-rank zombie's lair. It was a moment of nostalgia where his bat turned into a blood sucking leech.

He climbed to the top of the building, avoiding contact with the window in case a zombie noticed him and went crazy screaming like a dog.

It was easy to climb the buildings with his strong grip, but the time passed by quickly before he noticed that it was past 20 minutes when he started climbing.

James stood at the corner of the building and observed his surroundings. He found out that there was a whole zombie wave slowly gathering and reaching his way.

To encounter this zombie wave even when a month had not passed was anything but a bad luck. The plan in James' mind was now in a halt.

The gears in his minds suddenly started moving at a higher pace and a new plan was formed.

After an hour of observation and building up courage, James threw a firecracker in the air to slowly attract the zombies.

The sound of a firecracker made the zombie's crazy as they rushed over to tear apart a figure who was standing on the rooftop of the building.

In a matter of seconds, they had already surrounded James. Some of them already started climbing each other by making a mountain.

The corpse mountain in front of him emerged and crumbled countless times. There were a few in the mountain that remained at their positions and become stepping stones for others.

The distance between him and the mass was decreasing slowly. He was surrounded by a population of more than 200 zombies.

James was not scared and screamed out with a fearless expression on his face, "Black, grab me up!"

Without any delay, a huge wooden hand emerged out of the ground and grabbed James, with the small roots gushing out of the huge hand's fingers.

These small roots covered all over James' body parts. In a moment, James turned into a wooden doll like structure. The huge hand placed the doll on the road.

The zombies attracted by his smell were now turning towards the road. They surrounded the doll, tried every possible way to tear it apart, which resulted in the breaking of jaws due to the hardness of wood.

The doll was now being slowly dragged towards the neighborhood and then increasing the speed.

After a while of dragging, the doll's face started to open up, making James' face visible to the zombies.

They all went into a frenzy after noticing his face and increased the speed of their chasing at an alarming rate, entering the neighborhood.

Before they could reach out to his head, small roots entangled their legs, creating a huge domino effect. These roots grew towards the body and trapped them under the ground, only exposing the heads.

James didn't stand on ceremony and started killing them like he was playing whack-a-mole game.

The system alerts kept on appearing.....till there were no heads left to smash.

The dead bodies of this huge wave that could destroy a whole army was defeated in a one-sided massacre.
