Not only was Fletcher puzzled, but the others also exchanged confused looks. Wasn't the plan to deliver supplies? Could it be that the supplies were hidden in the mountains?
"Follow me up the mountain," Hurley said, distributing knives from the trunk of the car.
Although everyone was puzzled, they still followed Hurley up the mountain.
Alice held a curved knife in her hand, cutting through the grass as she walked. Without clearing a path, there was no way to navigate the mountain.
They arrived at Peach Blossom Village at nine in the morning and stopped for a rest after three hours of hard work.
"Miss Alice, what exactly is our mission? What are we looking for?" Fletcher twisted the cap off his water bottle, took a gulp, then glanced at Alice, asking quietly.
Alice thought that since they had come this far, there was no need to continue hiding the truth from them. "Our purpose this time isn't to transport supplies, but weapons."
This statement left everyone present momentarily stunned. But soon, Fletcher asked eagerly, "Really? Where are the weapons?"
Shouldn't weapons be transported from military factories? Why come to the deep mountains and forests?
Alice could guess from his expression what he was thinking. "The higher-ups didn't provide weapons, and the base has to rely on itself. There's an armory hidden in the mountains here."
What's the most important thing besides supplies in the post-apocalyptic world? It must be weapons, utterly meaningless without them.
The weapons in military factories were probably already looted. Not to mention farther away, even the weapons of the troops near the K base, such as Peach Blossom Village, had been taken.
It wasn't easy for the K base to have these few weapons, but they weren't enough to resist the pirates.
Everyone was thrilled to hear Alice's words. With weapons, they would no longer fear those damn pirates.
With renewed vigor, everyone hastened their pace, passing two more hours this way.
"Let's rest and eat first, and then we'll continue," Alice said. Clearing the grass was hard work, and they couldn't continue without being well-fed and rested.
Fletcher and the others had a simple lunch, eating directly from self-heating pots."Miss Alice, I have a box of sour cabbage beef hot pot here, would you like some?" Fletcher offered.
Alice smiled and declined, "No need, I have instant noodles with me."She carried a large thermos bottle, filled with boiling water poured in when they got off the car. It was still piping hot now, enough to make instant noodles.
Hurley was also having instant noodles, throwing in a sausage for good measure. After a quick bite, they were ready to continue.
"How far away is the armory from here?" Alice asked the man next to her while cutting grass.
Hurley looked up, surveyed for a moment, then said, "About fifty meters. If you're tired, take a break, and I'll take over."
Alice shook her head, "I'm fine."
They hastened their pace and cleared the last fifty meters in half an hour. Yet, there was still no sign of the armory. Fletcher scratched his head, "Could we have taken the wrong path?"
"Move aside," Hurley said.
Fletcher stepped back a few paces, making way for Hurley.
Alice watched as Hurley lifted the shovel in his hand and started digging into the slope behind them.
"This slope is the armory," Hurley explained.
The others immediately joined in, each with a shovel. After digging a meter deep, they hit rocks that were impossible to dig through.
Fletcher went to inspect and found bricks inside.
"Dig out both sides," Hurley instructed.
With dozens of people working, the work progressed rapidly, and soon, the door of the armory appeared before them. However, it was sealed with bricks.
Hurley walked over and felt around the bricks. Suddenly, the brick under his hand moved, and he pulled it out.
After pulling out the first brick, he continued with the second one.
After a while, a half-meter-wide hole appeared in the door of the armory. Hurley had originally drilled in from this spot.
"Break the bricks on the side of this hole," he instructed.Fletcher responded and joined the others in swinging their hammers forcefully at the bricks.
"Boom!"
All the bricks shattered, sending dust flying everywhere. Alice and Hurley were the first to step inside. Alice took out a flashlight from her storage space while nobody was looking.
With the light from the flashlight, they could finally see the scene ahead clearly. The armory, three meters high and ten meters deep, was filled with boxes stacked high, covered in dust and cobwebs.
Hurley casually moved a box over and opened it in front of everyone. Inside was a box of grenades. He then opened another box, revealing a machine gun.
Seeing these weapons and ammunition, everyone was both shocked and overjoyed. With these weapons, they would no longer fear pirate provocations.
"What are we waiting for? Let's hurry and get these weapons down the mountain," Hurley gave them a meaningful look.
Fletcher immediately called out to the others, "Come on, let's lend a hand and get these weapons back quickly."
The others snapped out of their daze and quickly came over to carry the boxes of weapons down the mountain. They worked until nightfall, but they had only managed to move less than a third of the weapons from the armory.
"Let's stop here for today. We'll continue tomorrow," Alice said, seeing that Fletcher still wanted to bring people up. She hurriedly stopped him.
After a moment of contemplation, Fletcher stopped. Although they were eager to return to the base, there was no rush for the time being.
That evening, they ate self-heating meals again. After returning to the car, Alice took out some fast food that wasn't too fragrant to eat.
They had sweated a lot today, unable to take a shower. They could only use a basin and hot water for a simple wash. After cleaning up, Alice discreetly stored the wastewater into her space, leaving no trace.
Glancing at the time, Alice saw that it was only 8 o'clock in the evening. They still had plenty of time.Unable to sleep, Alice began to read a novel on her phone. She not only downloaded movies and TV shows but also had many novels stored.
Alice had not been fond of reading online novels before, so when bored, she usually preferred watching TV shows or listening to music. However, she randomly chose a novel called "The Arrogant CEO Falls in Love with Me" to read. Although the descriptions were exaggerated, the plot was decent, suitable for passing the time.
It was said that many girls would become addicted to the arrogant CEOs in such novels and couldn't extricate themselves. After reading it, Alice felt it was just average. Such men couldn't possibly exist in real life, and she couldn't immerse herself in it.In the end, she switched to reading a manga, preparing some snacks and fruits nearby, enjoying her time leisurely.
At eleven o'clock in the evening, Alice turned off the lights in the car and prepared to lie down and rest. She wasn't sure how much time had passed when she vaguely heard footsteps. Being alert by habit, she immediately opened her eyes.Sitting up, she pulled the curtain slightly aside and saw two men walking towards the bushes.
Before long, Alice heard rustling sounds.
