First Quest! [Chapter 4]

While thinking to myself, an old woman walks up to me. I notice, and quickly put my attention on her. She approaches slowly using her cane and taps my ankle.

"Yes? How can I help you today?"

I ask, trying not to sound rude. I see her old, pale, grey eyes clinging to life.

"Please, help me. You seem stronger than the others I've asked. My son was abducted and the guards refuse to help."

She speaks quietly and softly.

Yes! My first quest!

"Don't worry, I'll find your son. Do you know the last place he was, and what was his name?"

I ask slowly, trying to get the info to start the quest.

"His name was Mill Orga. He has orange hair and was fifteen years old. He often would stay around the general store."

I nod and lightly touch the woman's shoulder.

"I'll find him, I promise!"

I wave for Rugle to follow me and start towards the general store.

"Lord Gearmin, I fail to see how this will help you reclaim your throne."

Rugle mumbles in his female voice. I look back and smile.

"It'll help me level up and make things overall easier."

So, am I really going to go attempt to overthrow this Algrimore guy? Maybe later.

We soon arrive at a large building with a sign.

"General Store. How very creative."

I mumble before walking inside and see a creepy old man behind the counter.

"W-well h-h-hello."

He says while waving with his boney and skin tight hands. I walk over to him and slam my hand on the counter.

"I'm looking for Mill! He has orange hair and is very young! Where is he?"

I demand while glaring at the old man. He shakes and steps back. He starts convulsing and falls onto the floor.

Rugle stares in awe before clapping.

"My lord! You are truly impressive, you killed him using nothing but pure intimidation."

I dart my eyes to Rugle.

"You're a demon, right? Make this man your thrall, revive him!"

I yell, Rugle immediately jumping over the counter to the old man and putting his hand against the man's chest.

"Alithīs Anastasia."

I watch the old man sprout horns from his head and slowly stand up. He grumbles and stares at us. Rugle pokes his face.

"Where is the boy that Lord Gearmin is looking for?"

The old man points to a bookshelf at the back of the store.

Of course! It wouldn't be a mystery quest without some sort of puzzle. And bookshelf puzzles are a classic.

I quickly walk over and start inspecting books. As I find a book with a strange marking, and start to reach for it, Rugle pulls the bookshelf from the wall. The spring and pully-system behind the wall comes with it, landing on the ground with a loud.

"Boom!"

I quickly look at Rugle and shake my head, as though saying.

What the hell?!

He nods, obviously misunderstanding me. We both walk down a flight of stairs and into what looks like a tunnel. The further in we go, the more putrid the smell in the tunnel becomes.

"I wish I couldn't smell this disgusting scent anymore."

I mumble under my breath. After a few more steps, the smell starts disappearing. We walk deeper and deeper into this cave, spiraling downward.

"How deep does this go?"

Rugle whispers as I chuckle.

"Not as deep as your mom."

Rugle doesn't laugh and I sigh.

Yeah, that was pretty immature.

Rugle quickly looks to me.

"My mom? Are you saying that I actually possess what the humans refer to as 'A Mother'?"

He asks. I sigh once more.

Why does everything have to feel so difficult or weird.

I quickly speak up and lie proudly.

"Of course demons have mothers, they just wait until you're strong enough to defeat your own father to show themselves."

I say, quickly realizing how stupid that sounds.

He might see through that lie. It was pretty dumb and I just came up with it off the top of my head.

He looks to me and shakes his head.

"But I never wish to defeat you, so I shall never see my mother."

I almost stop instantly and look to Rugle, quickly raising one eyebrow.

"I'm sorry, what?"

Rugle looks back to me and tilts his head.

"All demons were born from the great Demon-King. Ergo, we are all your children."

I smile nervously.

What the hell? So he considers me his father because I said I'm the Demon-King?

"Of course, I know that. I just wouldn't expect you to call me father, but more like, your creator."

I reply, and before we can speak further, we hear feet running towards us. The sound of soft flesh running against moist stone. We look forward and see a man with shorts and a ripped up shirt running towards us. He has 2 shanks made of bone and black hair wrapped around the handle.

He lunges toward me, but I throw a quick punch without thinking and strike the man. His head snaps back and forth as he drops to the ground.

"He was crazed, and apparently very weak."

Rugle says quietly, while my heart races. We hear several more pairs of feet slapping against the ground running towards us. 5 more people round the corner, running towards us with shanks and similar clothes.

"Stop!"

I yell, readying my fists. Everyone instantly comes to a stop and stares at me.

"Who are you? Tell me?!"

I shout, all of them mumbling at the same time. I listen carefully, but can't make out any coherent words. Upon closer inspection, I notice all their tongues are cut out. Instead of a feeling of sadness or dread, a feeling of increasing rage overtakes me.

I lower my head, no longer due to fear, my heart now pounds from an anger I've never experienced before. A seeming hatred that I fail to understand.

"I don't know why, but I don't care. I will kill who did this."

I growl angrily, feeling my blood boiling in my veins.
