When Kavan calms down

It took a while for Kavan to calm down after storming out of the hospital grounds, hailing a taxi and getting back to the hotel. He sat stewing and scowling darkly in their hotel room while Sabrina wondered what to say or do. She has never seen him lose his temper. She had assumed that he doesn't have much of a temper due to his easygoing ways what with his yoga and meditation. But then, everyone has a limit. So, his family - specifically his mother - broke that limit today. Seeing Kavan furious is an eye opener. People always say that to know more about a person, make them angry and see how they react in anger.

Other than storming off in a huff, Kavan's temper had been pretty much anticlimactic, if she has to describe it. If it was her, she would have thrown some things or make things explode. Kavan had merely got back to the hotel room in a brooding silence and then he has sat down on the sofa with a dark scowl on his face. No harsh words. No swearing. No kicking things. Nothing. Just cold, eerily quiet scowling on the chair.

"If you want to vent…you can," she said to him tentatively. It must not be good to keep everything inside. She always believed in letting out her anger. Screaming expletives and destroying things. Of course she repaired those things she destroyed right after that with her powers. Maybe humans can't do that.

"I mean if you want to throw stuffs and break things…I can always repair them back for you," she offered when he didn't reply.

At this, he exhaled loudly and look at her. He is no longer scowling but his expression is dark and sombre.

"Sab, why are you with me? I don't have anything at all now," he said, finally, his tone flat.

She got up and went to him. She sat on his lap and hooked her hands around his neck, peering up at him. He looked at her in surprise.

"You forgot I am not human," she reminded him. "I don't care about mortal material things like money and fortunes and luxurious cars. I don't even need to eat technically, I just enjoy the taste and eating with you is nice,"

She kissed his cheek gently.

"I love you for who you are. You have a genuinely warm and kind soul but of course, the fact that you are so deliciously handsome is a plus point," she told him, wriggling against him and pressing herself close to him. "Let's also not forget the phenomenal lovemaking sessions we have and the different poses we can totally experiment on and still have not tried out," she winked.

This elicited a slight smile. His hands went around her waist and he embraced her, breathing in her scent.

"I am glad I have you by my side throughout all these, without you with me, I might have been forced to marry Reesha," he murmured.

She grimaced at the thought.

"Ugh. What is their obsession with Reesha anyway?" she asked. "You need to tell me the truth,"

Kavan sighed.

"They have been planning our marriage since our birth. This is a plan between my mother and her parents. I am not sure about the exact details but her parents promised some lands to my parents, as a sort of a dowry, if I marry Reesha," he said.

Sabrina rolled her eyes. It figured. What else would motivate the Chokshi to do anything? Of course it has to do with money and assets yet again. So they are practically using their son to gain lands.

"What I heard was that the lands they promised are now prime lands which could be sold for hundreds of millions," he said.

"Which doesn't make sense, I thought your family fortune runs in the billions?" she asked. "Why would they want hundreds of millions when they have billions?"

Kavan shrugged. He never understood his parents' motivations either. After all, they are in line to receive billions of the family fortune. Of course, with his rebellion, his grandfather might just donate it all to charitable organisations.

"Well…greed knows no bounds," he finally said. It might just be due to his parents' greed. Or maybe they wanted it as a safeguard just in case his uncles contested his grandfather's will to gain part of the fortune. One never knows. It just goes to show how greed could colour one's judgement in everything. His grandfather is still alive and his parents and uncles are already plotting for ways to get their hands on the family fortune.

"But why would your grandfather insist on Reesha too? Her parents promised him something too?" she asked.

"I would assume this is due to my parents and uncles' work. They have been brainwashing him for years, decades even, on Reesha's family and their large shipping empire and how our two families together will mean greater business collaborations," he said.

"Talking of which, I never did ask you, what business is your family in anyway?" she asked.

He told her that his ancestors had started out importing textile and today, the business textile importing business has grown into a huge conglomerate - Chokshi Corporation - dealing in the import and export of all types of consumer goods that covered food to textiles.

"Reesha's family business is in shipping - the Diamond Group of Companies - so another reason my grandfather is keen on our union is of course the benefits it would bring to the family business," he said.

Now, this makes more sense, Sabrina thought. Again, it is back to dollars and cents. The whole forced arranged marriage for Kavan was so that they could continue to grow their business and with the shipping group as an ally, it would mean higher revenue and surefire business growth.

"Didn't they ever ask you to work in the family company and lead it?" she asked him, curious. Usually huge family-owned corporations will insist on their own heirs to take over their family business. It is expected of them.

"Actually, that was their earlier ultimatum. Either I work in the company and learn the ropes or I marry Reesha and I can postpone working in the company till much later," he replied.

"Obviously I chose a third option, make a run for it," he said ruefully. "It would seem that has become a habit because look at me, I am running away again,"

He smiled sadly and buried his face in her neck.

"I only have you now Sab, I just hope I am enough for you," he muttered.

Her heart hurt for him. Poor Kavan is so hurt by his ridiculous greedy family. With a family like that, who needs enemies?

"I don't need much Kav baby, I only need you," she told him. She patted his back assuringly. Now, she only hope she can solve her problem with her clan elders.

The greed of humans knows no bounds. Although this is fiction, there is truth in this quote.

Next up, let's hope Dr Kaito can offer some help on how to deal with Sabrina's council of elders. Chapter will be up tomorrow!
