Blink

"Has anyone found my coffee mug, Who took it?"

"Have you checked up in your room sweetie? It might just be there waiting for its daily dose of coffee."

"Yes I have, but I'll go check again. Thanks, mom."

"Found it, it was on my bed stool."

While Myles and his mom conversed, an eclipse took place abruptly. But it was a weird eclipse to Myles. Everywhere was dark, but Myles could still see perfectly well, not only that he could see as bright as day, he looked towards the kitchen where his mom had been, and he saw through the wall. He was able to see his mom groping around through the wall.

"Myles, what happened to the lights? Go turn them back on."

He hurriedly ran to the basement and changed the switch to the inverter. He ran outside and discovered that the whole neighborhood had a blackout. Then a driver who couldn't see properly swiveled onto their street, a little girl was holding her teddy in the middle of the road calling out for her mom. The place was pitch black when all of a sudden the car headlamps appeared out of the darkness just five meters away from the girl, the car was moving at thirty kilometers per hour, so there was no stopping the manslaughter of the child.

Myles suddenly leaned forward like he was about to dash towards the girl, he blinked his eyes and held out his arms to catch the girl even if he was about forty meters away from her, the moment he completed his blink, he saw himself behind the moving car which slowly came to a stop. He also felt his arms wrapping around a breathing organism, panicked he quickly removed his arms and dashed three meters behind the creature, then he depressed his angle of sight and saw the little girl speechless. The driver came down from the vehicle depressed thinking he just murdered a little child, he looked back and saw the girl, but he couldn't see Myles due to the darkness of the very dense eclipse.

The man knelt crying, thanking the heavens for not making him a murderer. The mother of the child appeared from the side of the car and ran towards her daughter lifting her off the ground and wrapping her around her arms. Myles could see what was going on, but he wasn't seen by them, he slowly walked to the swing set on his street and sat on one of them refusing to think of what had happened.

The mother of the child invited the crying driver to her home, the driver got back into the car and parked it properly then he followed her into her house to rest from the trauma that he just had. Myles slowly walked back home, getting to his door, he brought out his phone and opened the camera, he gasped when he saw that everything was darker than night itself. Walking inside, he took his mug and got his coffee then went up to his room and locked the door, That's when he began pondering: he wondered how he was able to move from one place to another super fast, that he was able to save a child from a five-meter range and appear behind the car. He took a sip, then he remembered what happened during his blink: he had leaned forward, but didn't run - in fact his legs didn't move in any way.

"Impossible, it couldn't be... I-I-I-I mean I couldn't have teleported, even if I did, I did it twice... impossible!!"

Then he thought:

"What if I did?" before collapsing on the couch in his room, refusing to think further he dosed off.

Waking up an hour later, he looked up and saw that the eclipse was gone since he couldn't differentiate between day and night anymore. He got his laptop and surfed social media. Shocked, he saw that the eclipse was a truly mysterious one because it happened all over the world.

"I wonder if there are more people out there like me." He thought to himself.

"Sugar, you awake? Come get lunch!"

"That's right, I didn't even have breakfast." he thought.

Myles rushed down the stairs to the dining and grabbed his lunch from the kitchen counter, he turned on the tv in the dining and tuned to the news. His mom got shocked because, he hardly ever watched tv, and even when he did he never tuned to the news. As expected, the news was already on the topic of the "Mysterious Eclipse", they showed different parts of the world and how it was a total blackout, there was power outage all over the world, only those with inverters survived the one-hour and ten minutes power outage. He rushed his food, grabbed his coat, and went outside in a dash, he has his secret spot that he always went to when he wanted to stay away from people. He went there with his computer and phone in his bag, he surfed all over the net looking for people with experiences like his, then he thought:

"No one in their right mind would post their experiences out here, I mean the world would see the person as mad."

He opened the TOR browser and got on the dark web, he searched the web and saw a newly created webpage available only on the dark web by an unknown person. The instance he opened the page, his OS sprung up a virus warning message which rarely happens, he took caution and left the page immediately because that was the fifth laptop his parents had gotten him that year, and they vowed that if it got spoilt, they'll not get him a new one till the next year, and they were just in early April.

He decided to test his newly discovered abilities again: he made sure there was no one around, and there was no CCTV anywhere. He started his montage at one pm sharp; by five, he was worn out and hungry, yet he wasn't able to do a single blink. he decided to retry after school the next day, he grabbed his things and headed home.

The next morning, he woke up only to see himself laying down on the basement couch. He remembered sleeping on his room bed and locking the door: so there was no possible way he could have sleepwalked down to the basement, plus he doesn't sleepwalk. He went up to his room and found the door locked, good thing he learned how to pick locks a year ago, he grabbed a hairpin and a needle and meddled with the locks.

He did his normal daily routine and headed for school. During chemistry class, while mixing some chemicals, one of his usual bullies came towards him at work, put an unknown powdery chemical into his mixture, and quickly went far away from him, his equation started sizzling and was ready to explode, he used a book to cover it and keep it from exploding: since he always went through situations like this, he was prepared for them this time around; the sizzle stopped, he removed the book and looked at the bully with disgust, that's when the bully had an evil grin and looked at his beaker. The oxygen in the air quickly mixed with his equation: that meant that the bully was prepared for him this time around as well; the moment he grabbed his book to cover the mixture, it exploded with a lot of force, but the split second before it exploded, Myles had instinctively blinked away from the area and appeared behind the bully. Shocked, the bully accidentally put his hand into a bowl of diluted acid: which caused his palm to burn.

Nobody knew what happened, they thought Myles ran away from his mixture and stood behind Dammy the bully, which caused him to get shocked and dip his hand in the acid. As far as everyone was concerned, that was the only logical explanation.

On his way back from school, there was a large crowd of people who were recording a crime scene, it was an attempted murder happening over there. The cops were outside asking the criminal what he wanted in exchange for the hostage. The criminal was on a rooftop of a tower of twelve floors: with the hostage at the edge of the building, he was making his demands beside the hostage, threatening to push him off the edge. Then the criminal slipped and tried to use the hostage to hold himself back, but the scared hostage pulled back on his weight and pushed the criminal instead, so the hostage was safe, but the criminal fell off. In the blink of an eye, Myles' instinct blinked him to the falling person and blinked him back to the ground. Immediately that happened Myles knew that if he didn't blink out of there before everyone looked in his direction, he was going to become a lab rat for scientists, without hesitation, he closed his eyes and imagined his room, then he leaned forward in the stance of running, and moved his body towards the direction he was facing without taking a single step; in the blink of an eye, Myles was in his room.

"I see, so that's my formula: I have to imagine where I'm going in my mind's eye, and then I take off."

"Let me try again." He continued.

"Envision the basement."

*sigh.

"This is way harder than I thought."

"That's right, they all saw me blink, thank goodness I was wearing a hoodie; the videos would be viral by now anyways."

The moment he touched his phone, he saw a bunch of notifications from different social platforms, there were different types of comments, and up to a billion reactions on each person's video, as expected there were many others who thought it was a work of graphics. But when they discovered that it wasn't shot from one or two phones: that it was also seen on various street CCTV cameras and a whole bunch of phones, everyone had no other option than believe it was real. It was all over the news, it literally became a major topic in the world. Some said that it must have something to do with the "Mysterious Eclipse", some said the end time was near; usual humans, they began panicking. The mayor of his town ordered that all schools should shut down till further notice due to the mysterious teleporter.

"Well, that would mean more time for me to practice, I guess."
