Chapter 25: Challenged

Perseus POV

"Finally a chance to prove your worthlessness!" Brennan said as he turned to leave "I will show you the difference between us, those threat levels are nothing letters. Your teacher may be the number 1 raider, but that will just be more humiliating for you if you lose."

"Dude, you're the one to talk, I'm about t make your cousins the new successor and head of the family, it'll be humiliating for a guy who's the head of a successful line of rankers to lose to a new upcoming raider."

He then left with his clanmates, much to the relief of the directors, but not to me and my sister, a fight to the death...to think the tower would arrange such a situation. They didn't even give me the choice to decline, it's like the first time I was summoned to the meeting between the ranked which the flashback will be saved for later.

Shit, to think I have to reveal a lot of my abilities so early in the novel...Unlike the others who chose to have their abilities recorded down, I'm relatively unknown, by having my skills written down, it's a bad thing for me as people can exploit information to find a weakness.

My sister has some written down, but mostly they just write about her flames and so they don't really know the full extends of her ability. We have to hide our abilities, cuz the floor bosses from the official floor 51 upwards are intelligent, a few of them are very weak, but are given the ability to access data gathered by information brokers that are leaked into the system.

"Crap, it won't be long till this leaked out, hell the system would inform raider of the death duel."

"On the bright side, if you win, you can earn a lot of credits from the non clan members who choose to participate...or our clan members who chose to decline the recent participation, they will have to buy the ticket instead of the free VIP seating." Diana replied

"Why are both our heads always thinking about money? I probably got it from you, why can't you be a better role model?"

"Oh, you're blaming me?"

Me and my sister then discussed a bit with the directors to request them to calm the students down when the fight gets officially announced. But shit, I better win, that's a lot of credits, I might just afford an SSS ranked equipment, or a lower tiered mythical grade.

After a few moments, my class came out of the pseudo dungeon, they looked covered with dust, soot, and dirt, they sure look exhausted for such a weak dungeon. It's probably just slimes and golems, those 2 species are spread all over the tower, if you find difficulty fighting them now, you're going to struggle.

Slimes and golems are the most common monsters, sure they are easy, but if you aren't careful they are also deadly, slimes ranges from 1m to even 100m in the higher floors, if they swallow you whole, you have a few seconds to escape before they digest you alive.

And they regenerate super quick too, that's why you have to be quick with golems and slimes, with a team, you can damage them with magic faster than they can regenerate. As for physical attacks, it's better to split them into small pieces with a skill like 'ground splitter' or 'atomic cutter'. You cut too little, they split into several smaller version of themselves, so you gotta cut them quick. Punches won't work as they just absorb the attack head on, especially slimes.

Luckily the directors already left, but I can tell that they're all wondering why my sister is here, despite being lower ranked than me, she's definitely more famous since she's been here longer than me.

Craig couldn't even stop them as they ask for a picture with her and pestering her, I just backed away since I already predicted that this situation would happen.

Lia then walked up to me and asked about the status screen that she clicked yes to earlier.

"Yeah, I'm fighting him."

"A regular duel between a named and a ranker won't have a notification like this." she pointed out

"I forgot to add, silly me, it's to the death."

She just sigh and facepalmed, not gonna lie, she's a bit cute with her messy hair, Struan would kill me if he found out I kissed her though.

But man, I just want to be a student, but oh no, situations keep popping up left and right just to fuck with me. The novel is 'welcome to tower academy', not 'that time a high ranker just want to be a regular student at tower academy; but with his overpowered talent and skill, he struggle to live a normal life and fit in'. I don't even have friends apart from Lia and my clanmates.

Damn this tower. Though there is something I need to investigate this weekend, involve both detective work and something that will make the story interesting.

"Wanna go on a date this weekend?"

"What?" she looked a bit surprised

"Would you prefer it if I asked you with a flustered face, shaky voice, yell out the request while I bow 90 degrees with my hands out? If you do, just know that I won't do it."

"...You have a lot of issues."

"I know, same with my readers, but here we all are."

"Why me? And what are we going to do?"

"Well it's either you or my sister. I need a trustworthy person to come with me as I do a little detective work, you might learn a thing or two."

"You would ask you sister on a date?"

"Don't siblings go on dates?"

Cordelia POV

What in the Alabama is going on?

"Are you sure it's not hanging out?" I asked

"Are they any different?" he questioned

"Yes, they are."

"No, they're not, it's just calling up your sister to go to the movies together and spending quality time just the both of us, it's basically the same."

"You...you sure are dense, aren't you."

"For the record, do not ever call me dense, you can call me anything but that. I'm not one of those dense protagonist who has a harem and attract every women he meets on the way just cuz he's lucky, those bastards, I envy their luck...I want a harem too."

I wish you don't, but we'll discuss this when it's the right time. Date with a sister...my brother may be right, except he might not know that the situation is worse than he expected.
