Yu-Gi-Oh GX: Rise of a Monarch

This story is based off a mixture of Tag Force games and the GX anime. I have already written over 50 K words, and think it’s pretty good. There are no OC cards, or advanced summoning methods beyond the GX era (ie. Synchro, XYZ, Pendulum, Link). The story is non-harem, and before you ask no, love interest is not Alexis. Also I recently started a YouTube channel where I post daily clips of funny videos from cartoons, would appreciate it if you could subscribe to Can Usa. https://youtube.com/channel/UCM7gd9oiIpSd8kasaQG_U3A

Chapter 5

-- Next Day, First Day of Classes --

Drake and I came to the class 5 minutes before and found seats next to the Kuriboh headed boy, and his friend with blue hair.

"Yo Jaden. I heard that you dueled against an Obelisk last night," Drake said as we had heard about it from Chumley in the breakfast,

"Yeah, Chazz challenged me to a duel, he had pretty sweet moves but nothing my heroes can't handle," he said with a large grin on his face.

"So you won?" I ask, fishing for information. Trying to see if we had deviated from canon yet.

"Nah, security came and we had to stop halfway, but if we didn't I would have totally won that duel," he said with literally flames coming out of his eyes. This dude was a little bit too passionate about dueling. And that says a lot coming from me.

"Yeah, apparently it's against the rules to duel after hours, and you could even get expelled," Syrus said with a little bit of fear in his eyes,

Drake and I shared a short look. We had talked about Syrus last night, and came to the same conclusion. The guy had more insecurities than Donald Trump when he was talking about his hand size.

Just as I was about to get info about the Chazz vs Jaden duel, the sliding automatic doors opened, and out of it came Dr Crowler.

He carried himself with confidence that did not belong to someone like him. (AN: A person who would do a Doctorate in Children's Card Game)

He put his files down, and wrote his name on the board, underlying the word Doctor

"Hello class, my name is DOCTOR Vellian Crowler, I will be your Professor for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advance Deck Building." He explained, "However, only those of you who perform exceedingly well in my Beginner and Intermediate classes will be allowed to take my Advance Deck Building Course,"

"So no Slifer Slackers," one of the obnoxious Obelisk students shouted from the back. Some of the Obelisk students laughed at his joke until I retorted, I never liked bullies.

"Nor will there be any Obelisk Puppies (Pussies) who only know how to bark," I said, and earned a small laugh from every non-Obelisk. I didn't like bullies, sue me.

"What did you say, punk?" he shouted,

"Oh I'm sorry, I knew you were ugly, but I didn't know you were hearing impaired as well." I said with a small bow of my head, and entire class got in an uproar, the punk got out of his seat,

"You wanna say that again, slacker?!" he tried to threaten me

"Sure, why don't you come closer so you can hear it this time," I said as I got out of my seat as well. He looked like one of those rich kids that hasn't been in a fight his entire life, I can easily beat the crap out of him… After he throws the first punch, I don't wanna get expelled after all.

"Alright you two, settle down!" Crowler said, then an idea popped up in her head 'I should make them duel in front of everyone and humiliate that Yellow boy for daring to talk back to one of my blues'. "Since you two seem to be so excited, how about an opening day duel between you two?" he suggests, "It shouldn't take too long considering who you two are," he added with a slick smile,

"Hear that man, even your head of dorm doesn't have much faith in you," I said,

"I'll show you Slacker!" he said as we walked towards the front of the class, opened our duel disks and drew 5 cards each.

MC Hand: Soul Exchange, Zaborg the Thunder Monarch, Masked Dragon, Mystical Space Typhoon, Fissure

Turn 1 (Jeff)

"Winners first, draw!" Jeff said as he drew his 6th card and smiled as if he won the lottery,

I felt compelled to ruin his mood, "I am sorry, did you say whiners first?"

"You…" He growled before activating the card he drew, "Whatever, I am activating Reinforcements of the Army, this card allows me to add 1 Level 4 or lower Warrior monster to my hand directly from my deck, and I pick Marauding Captain (1200/400)!"

He adds a card to his hand and continues, "I will then Normal summon him in face up attack position, which then allows me to special summon 1 level 4 or lower monster from my hand, and I will summon a second Marauding Captain (1200/400)" he said as 2 Marauding Captains appeared on his field. Not bad, Double Marauding Captain lock down strategy was one of my favoured tactics while playing Warrior Decks back in '04. Not bad for a random anime background character.

"I now activate The A. Force, this card increases my warrior type monster's attack point by 200 for each warrior and spellcaster monster I control," he said as his Marauding Captains (1600/400) grew a bit larger, "And with that, I end my turn. Your turn Slacker!"

Jeff: 4000 x3

Turn 2 (Konami)

"Is that all?" I ask him with a tint of mockery in my voice, "Well then, allow me to show how a proper duelist does it, draw" I said as I drew a card, it was the Bottomless Trap Hole. This could be useful later on,

"I activate Soul Exchange, allowing me to tribute one of your monsters when I will tribute this turn. And now, I will be tributing your Marauding Captain, to summon my Zaborg the Thunder Monarch in attack mode," I said as I sacrificed one of his monsters to summon mine, and then the sky around the duel arena darkened a bit with clouds,

Zaborg the Thunder Monarch - Level 5/Light/Thunder - 2400/1000

"And when Zaborg is tribute summoned, I get to select one monster on the field, which will then be destroyed, so say goodbye to your other Marauding Captain" I said as Thunder Strike hit his other Marauding Captain, "Unfortunately I cannot attack the turn I activate Soul Exchange, so instead, I will set two cards and end my turn,"

Konami: 4000 x2

Turn 3 (Jeff)

"Don't get ahead of yourself Slacker! You just had a lucky turn. I'll show you how a real duelist does it!" He seemed pissed at his strategy foiling on the first turn, but he was not about to give up, he drew his card before saying "I am summoning Big Shield Gardna in defense mode, and set a card" he did what he said and then ended his turn. No clue why he didn't set his monster. Stupid Anime Logic.

Big Shield Gardna - Level 4/Earth/Warrior - 300/2600

Jeff: 4000 x2

Turn 4 (Konami)

"Not so fast, right as you are ending your turn, I activate my facedown card, Mystical Space Typhoon, and destroy your facedown card," a small storm appeared on the field and destroyed his facedown card, revealing it to be Reinforcements… Who the fuck actually uses that card?!

That card is super pitiful, even in the Pre GX era, even when the game first came out it was useless. Okay I should stop ranting in my mind and focus on the duel.

"I draw." I said as I drew a card. It was a Mother Grizzly.

"I will summon Masked Dragon in attack mode," I exclaimed as I summoned my dragon.

Masked Dragon - Level 3/Fire/Dragon - 1400/1100

"I will now attack your Big Shield Gardna with my Monarch, Zaborg go, Thunder Strike!" I said as my Monarch attacked his monster, and failed to destroy it, and even lowered my life points.

Konami LP: 4000 => 3800

— In the Stands —

Jaden, Syrus, Drake and Bastian were watching their friend's duel.

And that move confused Syrus greatly. "Why would Konami attack Gardna despite knowing his monster can't win?"

"Because, after the Damage Calculation, Big Shield Gardna changes to attack position." Bastion, the human psychlopedia of Duel Monsters explained to the Slifers. 'Although, lowering your own life points like that could be quite risky,' he filed away that information for later use.

— Back With The Duel —

"Now that your Big Shield Gardna is in attack mode, my Masked Dragon can destroy him, and therefore lower your life points, Go Masked Dragon, FireBall!"

After Masked Dragon destroys the Big Shield Gardna, his life points go down.

Jeff LP: 4000 => 2900

"You just got lucky Slacker, this won't happen again!" he said as he recovered from the literal holograms.

"Whatever, I end my turn," I say with a look of indifference. This duel would probably be over the next turn unless he did something very impressive,

Konami: 3800 x3

Turn 5 (Jeff)

"Watch this loser, I draw!" He looked at his card and smirked.

"Since you control 2 more monsters than I do, I can special summon The Fiend Megacyber (2400/2200) in attack mode". His monster appeared to be as powerful as my Monarch, attack point wise, thanks to The A. Force that is. If he summoned another warrior monster I would be in trouble… If I didn't have my trap, "Ha Ha Ha! You are done for, you hear me! You are done for!" he shouted

"Are you sure about that? Trap Card open," I shouted "Bottomless Trap Hole! This card can only be activated when you summon one or more monsters with 1500 or more Attack points, this card banishes them from the game," I explained and his monster got blown to thousand pieces,

"I- I am not done yet! I summon Earth Hex in defense mode, and end my turn," he said,

Earth Hex - Level 4/Earth/Rock - 1000/1600

The Obelisk truly believed that if he made it through this turn he could draw a super special awesome ultra special super card and win the duel! Too bad he won't get his chance.

Jeff: 2900 x1

Turn 6 (Konami)

"Final Turn! Draw!" I exclaimed as I looked at my drawn card. It was Creature Swap.

"I activate Fissure, which destroys the monster with the lowest attack point on your side of the field." I said as his Earth Hex got blown to pieces.

"WHAT?!" He exclaimed, not that I cared

"Alright, Masked Dragon go, attack him directly." My Dragon obliged and blew a fireball at Jeff, he screamed despite not being burned really, it was just holographs.

Jeff LP: 2900 => 1500

"No- No- Wait! Let's talk about this," he said, while shaking like a leaf. "I can't lose to a Slifer Slacker!"

I ignored him "Zaborg, finish him, Thunder Strike!" I shouted as my Monarch hit him with a lightning bolt, and lowered his life points to 0.

Jeff LP: 1500 => 0000

"Hn," I said as I walked away. I walked towards Drake and Jaden while checking my PDA to see how my DP had changed, and ignored Jeff's suffering as his so-called friends made fun of him for losing to a lowly Slifer.

Name: Konami Kujo

Age:15

Date of Birth: January 19, 1989

Occupation: Duel Academy Student

Dormitory: Slifer Red

DP: 2,600

W/D/L: 1/0/0

-- In the Stands --

A purple haired girl scoffed before looking out of the window, acting uninterested. Beating 1 Obelisk did not make a Slifer worth her time.

A few seats ahead of her, however, a small smile graced her rival's face, "Well now, wasn't that interesting?" she asked her friends,

"Yeah it totally was, and that boy is pretty cute, right Alexis?" her brunette friend said,

"Cute or not, he is still a Slifer," Jasmine told her friends, "There is no way he could measure up to the skills of us Obelisks!" she said, not seeing the contradiction of her statement after seeing the boy in question dominating one of her fellow Obelisk's.

Alexis held back a sigh, Jasmine could be a tad bit elitist sometimes, and Mindy was going through a faze of being boy crazy. She decides to ignore her friends and look at the Slifer in question that was getting pats on the back from his friends. She thought about his OTK in his entry exam, and now, thoroughly humiliating an Obelisk.

"Konami Kujo… I wonder how good you really are?" she muttered.
