Chapter 18: One Month (2)

"That's him, isn't it?"

In the streets of Hayet City, two men were leaning on a futuristic motorbike. One had blue skin and hair with yellow eyes, while the other looked like an average human.

The blue man held up a small photograph of a teenager with black hair, black eyes, and a thin scar across his nose. Near the top of the photograph, the letters "V B" were scratched in. He compared the photo to a similar looking teenager walking further down the street.

"Eh, who cares, if we get it wrong, we'll just take his stuff."

The blue man's accomplice brandished a pipe before hopping on the back of the bike, putting on a helmet. The blue man shrugged before hopping in the driver's seat. Ready to launch their plan, the blue man started the bike.

Down the street, Van was taking a stroll. He had trained well the past month, and had reached (Master) level proficiency in both Basic Reflexes and Basic Engagement. True to her word, Ms. Doe had given everyone in Van's batch more Combat Arts and a skill except him. Luckily, he was able to discover a 2 Star Combat Art after enough "training" sessions.

Normally, a trainee like him wouldn't be allowed to wander around the city without his assigned guide, but it seemed that Melissa finally gave up on him after being endlessly ignored. He hadn't seen her in a week or two. Van didn't feel that it mattered anymore, since he was going to undertake the entrance exam the next day.

Van really didn't have high hopes for the group he would be placed in.

As he continued his walk, Van heard the roar of an engine approaching rapidly from behind. He spun around to see two men on a motorbike driving straight at him, one already swinging a metal pipe.

Van kicked and ducked at the same time, the pipe passing over the empty space where his head was, and his leg hitting the driver in the chest, knocking both men off the bike, which continued on and crashed into a wall.

Van's attackers quickly recovered, the driver taking off his cracked helmet, revealing a blue skinned man with matching hair and yellow eyes, the other person swinging the pipe towards him.

Van sidestepped the attacker and jumped towards the driver, kneeing him in the face and knocking him down before he could react. The man with the pipe was surprised that he was ignored, charging once again towards Van.

Before the pipe man reached him, Van bent down and grabbed his legs, lifting it and making the man lose his balance, dropping the pipe. Getting on top of him, Van quickly grabbed the pipe and repeatedly bashed it on the visor of the man's helmet, smashing it with a few hits.

"Ahh!" The man screamed as broken glass rained on his face.

The blue man was now on his feet again and swung his fist towards Van, who blocked with the pipe. Before he could react to the pain of punching metal, the blue man felt a great pain in his leg as Van smashed his kneecap, then swung the pipe into his jaw.

The blue man rolled on the ground in agony as Van decided to finish off the other guy.

"Wait- !!!"

The man stretched out a hand to stop Van, but it was to no avail as he felt the pipe destroy his future generations.

Finished, Van dropped the pipe on the ground, feeling like he just finished an excellent workout. He looked at the men on the floor, one holding his leg while sporting a few less teeth, and the other gripping his groin.

"Tell your friends to get revenge for you or whatever."

Van said before continuing his walk as if nothing happened. Yes, this was how Van had spent the month during his free time. His "training" consisted of him getting into several street fights left and right, beating up delinquents and small gangs, which in turn made people attack him, just like those two from earlier.

At this point, Van was notorious amongst common delinquents and low-level gangs. Of course, Van had no interest in fighting actual gangs, as those guys actually had skills.

After buying some meat skewers, Van pulled up his whole status to check his progress this past month on his way home.
