Chapter 7

The torrential downpours splattered all over the city. From the bustling city with abundant foot traffic, the entire area drenched in rain unexpectedly became a soulless place with just the gleaming brilliant lights of street lamps and high buildings. The evening could've been a pleasant one for Hades, but it's now wrecked due to the unexpected rainfall, which got worse as soon as the two arrived at Hades' place.

Hades stood by with a glass filled with a bourbon drink in his hand, leaning against his room's life-size tinted glass window, facing the entirety of the city being washed by the rain.

It has been a long day for Hades. At this point, he should have been sipping his drink inside Orange Flamingo. He'd also have been half drunk in his alone time blitz, which he used to do practically every night. However, everything seemed to have shifted in the blink of an eye, opposite to what he expected, especially when he met Rebecca.

"Sir, the maids have attended to the guest. And, at your request, we have prepared out a new set of clothes for her to change into." Thanatos approached Hades' room to report.

"Thanatos, haven't I told you to stop addressing me sir when mother isn't around?" Hades said to him.

"Please accept my apologies," Thanatos responded promptly. "I've entirely forgotten," he continued. Thanatos gave Hades a wry smile. He painted a beautiful grin that was far too angelic for what everyone imagined him to be—an infernal apprentice of the God of the Underworld.

Even after losing his divine attributes, Hades was able to restore certain important people from his previous life, one of whom is Thanatos. Despite the fact that he treated him as a friend, Thanatos remains grateful to Hades' family, particularly his mother Rheis, for saving him from the slumps.

Thanatos was reared as though he were a member of the Olympia family. But Thanatos sees it as an obligation he must repay, even if it means serving Hades for the rest of his life. However, Hades never made Thanatos feel like he was just a servant to him. Hades treated Thanatos more like a brother than a servant, entrusting Thanatos with most of his financial and business affairs when he was away.

Hades eagerly raised the glass and gulped down every last drop. When he moved towards the wine table, he appeared dissatisfied, but Thanatos immediately noted Hades' unsteady displacements and so Thanatos immediately acted for his friend.

Thanatos' long and silky metallic lavender hair waved in the thin air as he approached Hades, making his voluntary efforts to assist Hades with another helping of his liquor. There was no denying that the servant was second only to Hades in terms of physical attractiveness.

And as Thanatos returned the bottle to the wine table, a glimmer of the lamp flashed on his dazzling gray eyes, which matched his pale white skin well enough, making him appear more angelic than the monster everyone had imagined him to be.

"How is she doing?" Hades swiftly shifted the subject.

"She is currently staying in one of the guest rooms. When I left, she was still getting a hot bath from the maids. It has been a while, so...maybe she's eating by now."

"Did she say anything at all?"

"She is, in fact, quite the silent sort. Is there anything she's supposed to tell to us?"

Hades, on the other hand, simply shook his head. "Nothing. Forget it."

There shone a gleam of hope from Hades' end. He was relieved that the woman isn't one of those who kisses and tells. What occurred to them was embarrassing enough for him to remember. Hades was relieved that she didn't tell Thanatos about it.

"So, Hades, what do you intend to do from here?" Thanatos suddenly asked.

Hades turned his searing gaze on Thanatos. His friend, on the other hand, was unfazed because he had grown accustomed to Hades' behavior. It's not like his glare could kill him, unless he's still Hades from the underworld.

But, as a powerless mortal, all Hades could do was stare at anyone who dared to cross their line, and Thanatos was no exception.

"Plans...I didn't even consider bringing her here in the first place. What exactly am I thinking?" Hades revealed.

He pressed his palm against his brow, attempting to keep his anger from dominating his mental fortitude. Hades does not want to start wreaking havoc inside the house because his mother might hear him, which he cannot risk. Not when it also means discovering that he brought a woman home with him.

His mother had been so insistent on forcing him to go out and date women all these years. Hades believed that if his mother found out, she would either force him to marry Rebecca in an instant or, if she did not find Rebecca suitable for him, she would arrange for Hades to marry one of her friend's daughters instead.

Hades was certain that his mother would not approve of Rebecca's personality. He, too, is caught up in between his thoughts for some reason.

It's been bothering him since he chose to make a U-turn away from the outpost—away from the idea of dropping Rebecca off and never seeing her again.

The thought irritates him because he doesn't understand what Rebecca did to cause him to suddenly bend from his firmness. Hades clenched his fist, shattering the glass he was holding. "How wretched," he grumbled to himself, but loud enough yet for Thanatos to hear.

"Hades," Thanatos began. He wishes to attend to Hades' wounded hand, which is now spewing droplets of crimson blood onto the porcelain tiles.

But, with Hades' emotions dwindling, Thanatos chooses to safeguard himself from Hades and prefers to observe Him from afar.

Hades stormed out of his room in a fit of rage, completely ignoring Thanatos's summons.

"Where are you going, Hades?"

Thanatos called out to him one last time, and Hades gave him an odd glare before replying, 'My mother can't learn anything about this, especially about her. Avoid it at all costs."

Hades had left him behind, determined to make his way back to the guest room and confront Rebecca once more.
