Chapter 2 Tony returns

The sound of banging coming from downstairs startled Pepper awake. "Morgan," she thought to herself, and she raced to Morgan's bedroom to check if she was still there. Pepper breathed a sigh of relief when Morgan was okay. After closing Morgan's door, she entered the corridor. She picked up something to use as a weapon and headed down there, prepared to fight. In case someone was there, she made sure to move slowly and quietly to avoid drawing their attention. She went through each room to make sure nobody was inside before arriving at the sitting room. When she opened the door, she was met with a terrible sight: the man she loved, the man who should be dead, was lying on the sofa with his right arm badly burned and injured. She quickly approached him. "Tony" Pepper called out. "Can you hear me, Tony?" she asked, her voice shaking slightly. Aside from his occasional breaths, there was no response. "How is this possible? He died. I saw him die. We had his funeral yesterday," Pepper thought to herself. She didn't know how to process all of this; she was just aware that Tony urgently needed medical attention. She sprinted into the kitchen, grabbed the phone, and dialed 911. "It's my husband. He's returned from the dead, and I realize that this won't be easy to believe. But I need someone here quickly. He is seriously hurt. Please believe me," Pepper told the person on the phone. She listens to the person on the phone. "Pepper Potts, my husband's Tony Stark. I know how this sounds, but you have to believe me and send someone here," Pepper begged the person on the phone. "OK, thank you," Pepper said, and then put the phone down. How is this even possible? How is he back again? Why is he in the sitting room on the sofa? Her mind was racing with so many ideas before she remembered Morgan was upstairs. She was unable to bring her to the hospital with her or leave her unattended. She picked up the phone and called Rohdey, realizing she needed to quickly arrange for someone to take care of Morgan. She nervously waited for him To pick up. "I'm aware of how this will sound, but you must believe me. Please get over here as quickly as possible." Pepper told Rhodey. Pepper listened to what Rhodey said. "Tony's returned. I don't know how, but he's alive, he's injured badly, and the ambulance is on its way. But I can't take Morgan with me. Can you come and sit with her for a while, please?" Pepper asked Rhodey, "I don't know who else to go to with such short notice; I would've rung happy But he's not here; he's in another state, and it would take him at least an hour to get back." Pepper listened to Rhodey. responding with a thankful "Thank you; I will explain better when you are here." Pepper put the phone down and went back to wait with Tony. Pepper took Tony's left hand in her own and held it as she whispered, "It's OK; you're going to be OK; you're going to get help." A little while later, the door was knocked on. Pepper let go of Tony's hand and went and opened it; it was Rhodey. "I'm sorry It was still locked from last night; I forgot to unlock it. You need to see this." Pepper told Rhodey. Rhodey was taken into the living room by Pepper. "Has he moved or said anything?" Rhodey asked. "No, I was awakened by a bang, and I went to see if Morgan was alright. She was still sleeping. I then came downstairs and saw this. I'm not sure how he came back. I don't get how he's alive." Pepper told Rhodey. "I don't understand either; hopefully, when he wakes up, he can explain it to us. What's happening with the ambulance you called?" Rhodey asked. "I don't know; I don't even know if they believed me; I hope they have," Pepper told Rhodey. "Pepper, listen, it's going to be OK; I'll give it a few more minutes; if not, I will personally fly there and I will get them to listen, and believe me, I'll make sure of it," Rhodey told her. "Yeah, OK," Pepper said. The ambulance arrived a few minutes later. Rhodey went and opened the door for them. They entered the house rapidly. "Do you know how this happened?" One of the paramedics questioned. "No, I was woken up by a bang. I then checked on my daughter to make sure that she was okay, and when she was, I came down here thinking it was an intruder and wanted to stop them from getting near my daughter, and I found Tony like this," Pepper told the paramedic. "Are you staying with your daughter or coming with us to the hospital?" The paramedic asked. "No, I'll come. The person who opened the door for you is a friend, and he will be staying here with her." Pepper told the paramedic. "OK, that's fine," the paramedic said, and the paramedics then loaded Tony onto the stretcher and wheeled him outside into the ambulance. Pepper kept right behind. "I'll stay here as long as you need; just please keep me updated," Rhodey told Pepper. "Yes, of course. Just tell Morgan that I had to go and do something important. I'll explain when I get home," Pepper told Rhodey. "Yes, of course," Rhodey told her. The paramedic then shut the ambulance doors and another paramedic then drove off. Rhodey then locked the front door before returning to the living room, where he went and sat on the sofa and waited to be updated.
