Before It All

My name is Tommy Hollow. My life is the worst thing anyone could imagine. I'm 21 and I still live with my parents. Not only that, my father is the worst. He drinks all the time and he gambles away my hard earned money that I constantly give my parents. He never wins any money, and if we did, we would've moved out of the house long ago. That's only a portion of the amount of money he uses up. He is ruining my life, and I have no where to go.

The city I live in is called Unica. I don't live in a bad neighborhood, but it isn't decent either.

I was on my way back home from work when I bumped into someone. I fell to the ground, and I just got annoyed. "Hey! Watch-" I was about to shout my insult when I hear a loud growling. I turn and see a huge dog with golden fur growl at me. It was about to attack, but a voice said, "Roger! Sit!" The dog immediately sat down and I looked in front of me to see a very beautiful girl.

Her hair was long and white like snow. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of blue. It just looked like she was glowing. "I'm sorry for bumping into you sir. Roger must've gotten distracted." I stood up and said, "It's alright. Here. Take my hand." She said, "I can stand by myself. Thank you though." Her eyes seemed like they were looking at nothing. She wasn't looking at me or anything else. "Are you... blind?" I asked cautiously. I didn't want to offend her if she just had lazy eyes.

She said, "I am blind. I have Roger helping me walk around." I glanced next to her and I saw a cane on the ground. I said, "Don't freak out, okay?" She didn't say anything, so I was a bit unsure. I grabbed the cane with one hand, and gently grabbed her hand. She stiffened up, and asked, "What are you doing?" I put the cane in her hand and said, "Giving your cane back." She smiled and said, "Thank you very much. What's your name?"

I scratched the back of my head and said, "Tommy." She said, "My name is Alice. It's nice to meet you." "It's nice to-" Before I could finish my sentence, Roger quickly walked off with Alice. She said, "Bye Tommy!" I wanted to wave bye, but the fact that she's blind shot into my head, and I immediately said, "Bye!" I smirked, but I couldn't help but feel sad about it. I shook it off and walked back home. When I approached the house, I heard a terrible cry coming from inside.

I swung the door open, and I saw my father next to the couch with a person lying on the couch. The person who lied there was my mother, and her legs twisted in a gross way. He looked at me and said, "Welcome home, Tommy. Your mother and I are simply discussing something." I quickly ran upstairs and ran into my room. I slammed the door, and I sat on the floor. I felt sick. My father is a very heinous man, but to break my mother's legs? I was done.

I grabbed my phone from my pocket and called the police. It's inconvenient that the nearest police department was miles away, so I had to wait. I walked out of my room and quickly walked outside trying to avoid looking at the scene. It was quiet. Like how our neighborhood has always been. Boring. All of a sudden, there was a crowd of people running down the street. Fear was embedded into their shouts, and a loud explosion was heard from across town.

I immediately rushed to the storm shelter my grandparents made on the side of the house. I've never been inside, but I was afraid of what might happen out here. I was about to go into the shelter, but someone grabbed my arm and shouted, "Move out of the way, boy!" I turned around, and I felt fear rise up in me when I saw my father. He was about to push me away, but all of a sudden, he screamed in pain and fell down.

I looked down, and saw my mother and my father writhing in pain with a broken bottle jabbed into his leg. My mother shouted, "Go into the shelter! Now!" I tried to get my mother, but my father was trying to grab my legs. "Tommy! Go! I will always love you!" Tears were streaming down both of our faces as I opened the storm shelter's doors and slowly walked in.

I shook my head and tried to get my mother, but all of a sudden, there was a huge flash of light, and the shelter doors slammed shut. I was pushed back by the force, and when I hit the ground, everything went black.
