Chapter 64

"How are you doing?" I ask rushing into Meredith's room, her water had just broken and she was officially in labor.

"I'm in pain." She groans as she leans on the bed, breathing through a contraction.

"The miracle of life." I say making her glare at me.

"Where's Derek?"!I ask Cristina as she rubs Meredith's back.

"He went to get more ice chips." Cristina says.

"How's your pain? Rate it?" I say to Meredith.

"It's a 8. No, a 9." She says taking deep breaths until her contraction passes.

"Dammit." I mumble a short while later when my pager goes off.

"Hey, it's fine go. Cristina and I got this." Derek, who had recently gotten back to the rooms says.

"Okay, I'll be back as soon I can. Hang in there Mer." I say walking out of the room. As I'm walking down the hallway the power goes out, leaving the hallway dark.

"Oh great." I grumble. The weather is getting worse and worse as the night goes on, well technically the morning, since it's like 1 am now.

"What do you need?" I ask Jackson when I find him in the lobby crowded with people, who came to the hospital for shelter from the storm.

"We need all the doctors that are available to help us run this E.R., it's already packed and there's no telling how many more..." Jackson says before being interrupted mid sentence by a loud crash as we see a bus crashing outside the hospital, shocking everyone and causing chatter to feel the dark lobby.

"Oh my god." Callie and I gasp as the bus continues to slide after flipping on to its side, then it catches on fire. We all immediately run outside in the pouring rain, beginning to try to get the passengers off as fast as we can.

"I smell gas." I say.

"There's a fuel leak somewhere." Matthew says.

"This things going to blow pretty soon." I say looking at the small flame that was beginning to spread. "Be careful." I shout to Jackson who's on top of the bus helping a man get out.

"I am." He assures me before I begin helping a lady onto a gurney

"Okay, I need everyone away from this fire." Owen says.

"Let me get you inside." I tell the lady I'm helping before rushing her inside and beginning to help tend to the many injured patients filling the hospital. The E.R. was already full before the crash, but now it was overflowing with people. I can tell this is going to be a long night.

"Where are the pain meds? I have patients in pain over here." I say to Bailey as she walks into the E.R. as we tend to patients.

"I tried to get the meds, but the machine won't open without power. I can't get it open." She says.

"Alright, never mind that. I've got at least two open fractures and some nasty lacerations." Callie says as Dr. Bailey freezes up from nervousness, which she does a lot. Ever since everything that happened with her patients, she still hasn't started back operating yet. She's to scared to even touch patients even though she's been cleared.

"Uh, you need meds. I'll figure out the meds. Murphy." She says before her and Leah walk away and I continue to help work on multiple patients.

"Where's Jackson? He's supposed to be with you." I ask Owen a little while later when I see him and Callie running in with a patient. When I was outside earlier, Jackson was with Owen tending to people on the bus, so I assumed he would still be with him.

"I don't know, he was just right behind us." Owen saysbas we run back outside.

"How don't you know where he is if he was just with you?" I yell beginning to freak out when I don't see him anywhere.

"Is that him behind the bus?"!Callie asks as we see a figure behind the bus that is now almost completely engulfed with flames and is gonna explode at any moment.

"Jackson!" I yell.

"Avery!" Callie and Owen also yell.

"Jackson Avery get over here now!" I yell beginning to run towards the bus, until Owen pulls me back just as it explodes.

"No, no no. Jackson!" I cry trying to fight Owen off so I can run to the bus. "Jackson, Jackson. No, no, no!"!I scream in tears as panic and helplessness fills my body, thinking that Jackson's dead, until I see him emerge from behind the bus carrying a little girl in his arms.

"Oh god." I cry. I felt so many emotions at that moment. I was happy and relieved that he was alive, but I was pissed that he put himself in danger, that he almost got himself killed.

"Evie, Evie, Evie. Oh god thank you." The little girls mom cries as Jackson hands her to her.

"Oh my god. I thought...I thought you were dead." I cry as I wrap my arms around him, never wanting to let go at that moment. We get him inside so Callie can check on him since he has a couple of injuries from the impact of the explosion. Callie makes me stay outside, so I can calm down as she tends to him, but honestly standing outside and thinking about what just happened was not calming me down at all. It actually just angered me more and more by to second.

"You freaking idiot!" I yell still in tears as I run over to Jackson slapping him against the chest repeatedly once they let me into the room.

"Ow, stop hitting me!" He yells.

"You, you could have died, you selfish bastard!" I scream still hitting him until Callie pulls me away.

"Garcia, what is your problem?" She yells. I don't answer, I just walk back out into the hallway and start pacing around, trying to calm myself down, but I can't. I just feel so overwhelmed, to the point that I physically felt sick, my heart was still racing, and I couldn't stop crying. I know that Jackson's fine, but the panic of thinking I lost my husband was still running through my body.

"Liliana, what's wrong?" Derek asks running over to me, but I was still crying so hard I couldn't even talk. "Lily, I need you to calm down a tell me what's wrong?" He says wrapping me in a hug and trying to calm me down.

"What's wrong is my husband is a freaking idiot who almost got himself killed." I sniffled.

"Tell me what happened." He frowns.

"A bus crashed outside the hospital and we...we were helping the people escape and everyone was supposed to get as far away from the bus as possible before it exploded, but there was this little girl on there and Jackson, he ran back to get her..." I sigh, still trying to calm myself down.

"Oh my god. Is he okay?" Derek asks looking at me sympathetically.

"Yeah he's fine, I mean his shoulder, it's dislocated and he's pretty cut and bruised up, but he escaped just in time. It's just that for those couple of moments I thought...I thought he was dead. He almost was dead. He just ran and put himself in danger and he didn't think. He didn't think about what it would do to the ones he loved if he would've died, what it would do to me. He was just selfish. I...I almost lost him."

"But you didn't. He's okay Lily, he's alive." Derek smiles as he wipes away my tears.

"I know, I just I thought I lost him and I can't... I wouldn't make it without him." I shake my head.
