A Solitary Experience

Barry was originally an ordinary soldier in the National Army. After enlisting in the army, he went to the battlefield in Iran. He was quickly promoted due to his outstanding performance. However, since his promotion, he soon faced a problem that complicated things for him.

And that was that he had some disorders that were making his military career difficult.

Saying that he is a person with an aggressive character is not enough, otherwise it would be impossible to stand out from a group of recruits at the beginning, but his character is a little stubborn and his behavior is incomparable to others.

But that behavior was ignored by the higher-ups and they only bothered to send him some small warnings. However, they needed soldiers at that time, so Barry's behavior, as long as it didn't put the missions in danger, was not a nuisance.

One year after Barry was promoted, because he still could not integrate into his group, he began to make his own way, and he did not like the behavior of these people, so he was only promoted directly to send him to a place where his skills were really needed.

The appointment letter said he was transferred to a base north of Knoxville as chief of secret security.

In this way, he packed his bags and left the military camp that made him feel extremely disillusioned, planning to regroup at the new base and make it a much more productive career.

The results of that?

It turned out that this place is a kind of warehouse...

More than 200 people are permanently sealed in the base, and the outside world will replenish their supplies every six months. At first glance, the facilities are quite complete.

Whether it was food, entertainment or even a bar, it was not something this place lacked.

Seeing the current situation here, Barry would be an idiot if he didn't understand that he was being deceived. Obviously, he knew he was being transferred to this place where the old people rot, but he was still young and unmarried. After two months of a peaceful life here, he gradually got used to this lifestyle.

Everything was perfect until the end of the world came, those rumors about a supposed rabies disease.

In fact, they were quite sure at first, after all, in closed mode, they had no contact with the outside world, and even the news was delayed in reaching them.

Normally, such a secure place should not have turned out like this. But the question is, what went wrong?

What went wrong was the supply delivery.

The original semi-annual supply was suddenly brought forward and they still had three months' worth of rations in their warehouse. They did not expect to receive instructions from their superiors that a supply team would come in the next two days. This supply brought a batch of supplies sufficient for them to use for a year without any problems.

Barry knew something was going on, but the rest of the people, including the top executive of the base, didn't seem to take it seriously.

Two days later, the supply team arrived on time and brought another high-level task.

Barry's team must defend the base. The remaining supplies and materials are sufficient to eat for more than a year. During this time, the base must be safe without exception.

If this incident had happened differently, the base wouldn't have turned into what it is now. Just as the supply team was about to leave, a member of their team suddenly developed a high fever.

The group knew each other well, so when they found out about this soldier who suddenly fell ill, they helped him immediately.

This man's name is Steve, and he's a rather extravagant type. When he's off duty, he hangs out in bars and nightclubs near his camp.

This time, Barry found out that this soldier went out the night before. According to his words after returning, he kept talking about a girl who was quite pretty.

As a result, the person who was alive and well a day ago kept getting worse, and his temperature reached alarming levels. But with orders to follow, they had no choice but to leave him at the base to recover.

Barry and everyone at the base did not expect that because of this decision, most of them would die.

There is no need to go into too much detail about the subsequent development of things, it is nothing more than the fever of an infected person before becoming a walker, and after dying in the base, the infection spreads.

Barry hid alone in the warehouse and stayed there for more than a year and a half. Although he had no worries about food and clothing, the feeling of loneliness made life worse than death.

However, the warehouse area is very large, and the materials are rich enough for him to live in for many years. It can be said that if there was a woman, they could repopulate the base like Adam and Eve.

From Monday to Friday, he could move around the warehouse and, in a short period of time, build something personal in this place.

As all of this was so boring, he could only find something to do for himself.

As for why the base still has electricity, it is thanks to a hydroelectric power station not far away. It looks like a dam, but in fact, there is a separate power generation equipment below it, which has been continuously providing electricity to this base.

That is why the elevators and lighting run on electricity.

The temperature control equipment in the warehouse has always been effective, and the underground ventilation equipment also works normally, otherwise he would have died already.

Barry knew very well that he was lucky to survive, although he was going crazy alone, he still did his best to cheer himself up, hoping that someone would come here someday.

There is still plenty of food in the warehouse, and there are air conditioners in summer and quilts in winter.

Bang Bang Bang Bang!

At this moment, the gunshots outside the door gradually awakened his numb nerves. Barry was stunned for a moment, then immediately got up, ran towards the door, and pressed his ears against the door panel.

More and more clear shots were heard, approaching, accompanied by the muffled sound of heavy objects falling to the ground. He knew all too well that it was the sound of his comrades who had become immortal monsters falling to the ground after being killed.

"Oh shit!" Barry rubbed his knees against the door, but his face was full of joy. It was obvious that someone had come, whether to rescue him or not, he finally had hope of getting out. As long as he could leave this place, who cares who is outside? Or if they're human?

"I'm here!"

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Barry frantically knocked on the warehouse door, emitting muffled knocks, but soon realized that the shots outside were still happening, and the other party probably couldn't hear him yelling at all.

"Calm down, Barry, stop, damn it." Barry stood there trembling, feeling his teeth chattering, and the sound of his teeth hitting each other could be heard in his ears.

It's not fear, it's excitement!

Bang Bang!

After two shots, the outside finally returned to silence.

Barry couldn't wait to slam the door again, shouting something out loud, not so much a scream as a release. In fact, he could also open the door, but he couldn't be sure that the outside was completely safe enough to dare to open the door.

Boom, boom!

The warehouse door suddenly opened from the outside, and a group of people with uniforms covering every part of their body and face appeared at the door.

"Don't move, stop!"

A burly man stepped forward and pushed Barry into the room. Dozens of people rushed in behind them, surrounding the two of them.

"Don't shoot, I'm a soldier from here!" Barry raised his hands, indicating that he didn't have a weapon, and the white man quickly searched him.

"Check him!"

A man who took off his helmet showed his indifferent face and said, "Next, you will answer some questions, do you understand, soldier?"

"Okay, definitely sir!"
