Chapter 3

General POV~

It hadn't been long since Aryan was captured by the weird men on horses.

And for Aryan, even this short amount of time seemed to be an eternity.

The scorching heat of the sun and the extreme heat of the desert seemed to be taking a toll of his health. That, along with the never changing scenery of never ending sands in every direction was making him have hallucinations.

Occasionally, he would see something like an oasis in the desert, a safe haven from the heat and desolation. A false heaven in this hell of heat.

It was also during this time that he was able to do some much needed introspection.

But all of his thoughts were cut short when he saw a huge structure in the distance.

'Ah yes. Another hallucination...' he thought to himself, completely sure of another hallucination.

It was at this point that his captors began to converse in the same strange language once again.

A language that Aryan was assuming to be Ancient Egyptian. Even if they weren't, it wasn't like he would be able to tell the difference. Heck, even if they were speaking random gibberish, he would still consider it to be a language, because he didn't know any better.

As he was lying on the back of the horse, he couldn't help but think if this was all some elaborate prank.

But one look at the floating screen made him scrap that idea. The screen was 100% real and completely holographic. Not to mention the Egyptian men were completely oblivious to its existence. Even when he made the screen float directly into one of their heads, they didn't even flinch.

All these things made him come to the simple conclusion, he was really in the past. He had really travelled to the era of Ancient Egypt...

This made him shudder, both in fear and in anticipation. What he really wanted to see, was how the lifestyle of the people differs from the people in the modern age, and find out the various secrets the ancient civilization had in store for him!

Too bad he couldn't though...

But just as he was lost in his thoughts, all of his captives began conversing in increasingly loud voices, their language still just as foreign to him as when he heard it for the first time.

The hallucination of the gigantic structure in front of him was enlarged. It was no longer just a straight tower, piercing the sky. What he could now make out, was the rough outline of a giant city, spanned over dozens of kilometers.

In some parts of the city, giant towers were erected and the entire city was surrounded by what looked to be a wall.

'This is way too grand for a hallucination...' Aryan thought in doubt. For a moment, he even wondered if the heat had taken a toll on his sanity.

That... might be the case considering how idiotic his thoughts had been ever since arriving here. But he didn't associate that with the current view in front of him.

The mega city in front of him looked absolutely majestic. With the sun far up in the sky, and no clouds to block it, the city seemed to be a fortress, defending against the fatal heat emitted by the sun. The hot winds from all across the desert were blocked by the walls that were about 4 meters tall.

Seeing such a magnificent view laid bare in front of him, Aryan was baffled in wonder and awe.

It did not take long for Aryan and his captors to arrive close to the wall.

By this point, Aryan became exceedingly sure that this was, in fact, very very real and definitely not a hallucination.

As the horses approached the wall, they gradually slowed down and eventually came to a complete stop. And then, with a leap, two of the men got off of their respective horses and went ahead to a respectably sized gate in the front.

When they stood in front of the gate, it opened slightly and out came another man, one dressed in some skimpy armor. Most of his body was covered with normal clothing(Well, as normal as those in Ancient Egypt could be) except for his chest which had a bronze colored chesplate on it.

They talked for some time and one of the men pointed his finger at Aryan. At this point, Aryan was already expecting some of the worst case scenarios in his head. It would not be a surprise for him if they sold him off to slavery or if they sacrificed him to their gods in order to appease them. After all, the morality of the ancient people was vastly different from the qualities of morality of someone from the modern age.

What Aryan thought to be morally acceptable might just be a sign of weakness in the current situation. His bottom lines might just be laughed at by the normal people in this age.

Whatever it might be, he would not have the luxury to figure it out.

After the short exchange with the guard, Aryan and his captors were let inside the city.

The doors in the front were opened with a loud noise and what came into view was the vision of streets filled with people. It wasn't to the point of being crowded, but there was still a shocking amount of people in the streets considering the heat in the area.

The streets were paved with dirt tiles and on both sides of the road were various shops and houses. The shops sold all sorts of goods, most of which were food and water.

Along with that, the people were also of various varieties. They all had various skin colors, ranging from a healthy white to a dark black, while the attire stayed mostly the same for all of them. They all covered their bodies with relatively thin clothes. The men wore a turban on their heads while the women covered their heads with a simple cloth.

All in all, it was not a view that Aryan had been expecting in the middle of a desert.

'This is so much more than what I had been expecting.' Aryan thought to himself in amazement. He looked around with a small smile on his face, carefully observing the different architecture of the houses and the shops.

For a moment, he even forgot that he was here as a captive.

But then, something that he had certainly not been expecting happened.

[You have walked into the outskirts of the Egyptian Civilization!]

[Talent Initiation will now take place!]

"What the hell?!"

Aryan POV~

"What the hell?!" Seeing the screen appearing in front of me so suddenly, I couldn't help but scream out in surprise.

But then, out of nowhere, I felt a sharp stinging pain on the back of my head.

Looking behind me, I realized that the man who had me tied up on his horse had hit me on the head with his fist.

"Hamakh Yuvich, kuthu vyu germa qu!" The man screamed at me with an angry expression and I couldn't help but grunt in pain and annoyance. But alas, there was nothing I could do.

Not only was I tied up with ropes, but I was also in their home turf. Not to mention that his fist was unusually strong. The impact hurt way more than even stubbing your toe on a hard object, I tell you.

"Mathak dohch!" The man said while clicking his tongue and turning ahead. With that, we continued to move on the horses.

'Just you wait! I'll show you the might of a man from the modern age!' I thought to myself before once again focusing on the screen in front of me.

[Talent Initiation is in progress...]

'Talent initiation? Does this refer to the little survey I filled out?' I thought to myself before suddenly, I began to feel extremely extremely tired. Like, I could not even keep my neck straight.

Instantly, the fatigue started to build up and I felt like I had cramps all over my body.

'What is happening?' I thought to myself as I resisted the urge to go to sleep.

[Talent initiation had been completed!]

[Congratulations! You have attained 5 new talents!]

With the completion of the 'talent initiation', suddenly, a profound feeling of strength and power surged into my very being. It was a feeling that stood stronger than the previous feeling of fatigure I had.

Then, as if by magic, all of the fatigue that I had previously been feeling faded away into nothingness. And in it's place, was now a feeling of endless vitality. And with it, the constant heat that had been nagging me from the start also seemed to lessen.

'The effects of my talents have revealed themselves.' I thought in satisfaction, my mind now able to think clearly due to not being affected by the scorching heat.

I turned my attention away from the screen for a bit and looked at my surroundings. Well, more like my attention was forcibly taken away by something. Why? Well...

"Hamak khat mikopi! Hamak khat mikopi!" Rations for 13...

"Shivet chiea ta lamakh! Shivet chiea ta lamakh!" Fabric Clothes from the Capital...

"Pahakh nu koro! Pahakh nu koro!" 5 Jugs of water for the cost of 3...

'Holy shit! I can understand them!' I thought excitedly as I began to fidget in my confines.

(A/N: For the sake of the readers' convenience, and for my own, all foreign languages will now be translated to English...)

"Hey you! Stop moving around back there!" The man before me said in an angry tone.

"Why is he getting so restless now?"

"Who knows? Maybe he knows that he is going to be sold."

"Haha! He doesn't even know how to speak! How much would he be worth?"

"Probably not much..."

Hearing them discuss 'selling' me, and 'how much would I bring?', sweat began to pour down my face.

'...This is NOT good! I need to escape somehow!' I thought and began to look around for any type of opportunities that might aid in my escape. But first of all, what I needed to do was escape from my confines.

And what better way to do that then to ask the floating screen?

'Status' I called out in my mind, hoping for the floating screen to answer this time around.

And sure enough, it did.

Reading the last bit of text, I thought of opening up the 'starter pack' that was mentioned on the screen. And sure enough, the screen responded.

[You gave gained Talent: Heat Resistance]

With the notification in front of me, I instantly felt better in the heat. The hot winds and the light of the sun did not seem as annoying as they did before.

Feeling giddy inside, I silently thought of opening up the 'shop' in my mind.

[Your currency units is currently 0]

[You cannot open the shop without the minimum amount of currency!]

'Ok. Wierd, but acceptable. How do I get this currency unit?'

[...]

'Hello? Are you gonna answer?'

[...]

'...Guess not.' I shrugged in response and opened up the next tab, 'Missions'.

[No missions are available for completion]

[You cannot open missions without an available mission!]

'...'

'Alright, no need to get angry. Let's open up the 'Talents'' I thought in my mind and the screen in front of me changed once again.

This time, it actually opened up what I wanted to open.

I calmly read through all the information that had been provided to me on the floating screen.

After I was finished reading, I began to analyze my situation.

'It's a relief I choose some really helpful talents' I looked at the ropes that were binding me and then towards my captors. 'With my 'Mighty' talent, I am fairly confident I can break this rope. After all, from the time the talents have been awakened, I have been feeling like I could break the rope if I gave it my all.'

'But the problem is these guys. Even though I might be strong, I'm not too confident in taking them on.' I internally lamented, 'Not to mention the obvious fact that I've never been in a life and death fight before, they seem oddly proficient in the handling of their weapons. I can't take the risk.'

'But if I don't escape soon, I might just get sold off into slavery.' I continued, 'What to do, what to do...'

I contemplated for a while, thinking of all of the options that were available to me at the moment.

Eventually, after about a minute or two, I finally arrived at a conclusion.

'I should wait until nightfall, or at least until they're distracted. When I get even the slightest chance, I'll make a run for it...'
