Keep Listening
Despite worry for my father and my sister, tension for Chase also wound through me all day. A memory of Dad's face would flash in my head and I'd lose myself in wondering just how badly he was doing. He'd looked so old and worn. Then I'd think about Amy calling him and saying she wanted out. Was it a trick? I wouldn't put it past Aiden. But Amy was so dramatic, so weak. I'd known all along she'd probably struggle being close to Aiden for any length of time. I bet he scared her. The idea that she'd want to leave wasn't surprising at all. It made me afraid that he was intimidating her to keep her there, which was somehow worse than if she was with him because she was turning into a Shade.
And yet, while I kept swinging between the two of them, pained and afraid of what they were facing, I couldn't stop thinking about Chase, either.
