Aiden's eyes are shadowed—like he's hurt. Or maybe angry. "Geez, Kate, I was playing."
Shock drops my mouth open. Could the Shines really do that? Surely not?
I straighten my face. I don't want him to see my confusion. "I don't care. I've got enough going on without tantrums from you."
Aiden sighs and runs a hand through his hair. There's a few inches space between us now, so I can breathe. I try not to let him see I'm breathing too fast.
"Okay, fine. I'm sorry I got mad this morning. Happy?"
"No."
"Sheesh, what do you want from me? I can't stand that guy! And you were staring at him like . . . like you wanted him to watch you." Was I? "He's an asshole." Aiden tips his head sideways, grimaces, like he's stretching the anger out of his neck. "Kate, the sight of him makes me want to break his neck." Aiden glares at the wall, jaw clenched, that anger evident of every line of his taut face. For a second he scares me.
