CHAPTER 18

[Wanda Maximoff POV]

"Damn! Who knew a robot could be this hardcore? I can't feel my legs, Wanda." I rolled my eyes at my brother's incessant rantings, knowing fully well that he was the reason why Vision increased the amount and time limit of our training.

"Help me up?" I glared mockingly at his sprawled form on the ground. Vision had left quite early looking preoccupied with something but he made sure we finished our quota before he left.

"He's not just a robot, Pietro." I couldn't help but subconsciously correct him and only realized what I did after the words left my mouth.

"What do you mean?" He finally managed to sit down and faced me looking confused and also sarcastically mocking me. His face didn't need to show the expression because I could already feel it.

"I don't really know. It's just that he feels a lot different than any of Stark's armored suits or even Ultron… he feels almost alive like a human being."

I really can't explain it but I've never felt like he was a robot or something like that when he was around me. It feels just like talking to someone like Thor or Bruce. I'd instinctively know that there's something more to him but never what.

Unless he actively showed it, no one would know he's a robot.

He was so real that even the way he felt was….

"You're right… Doesn't take away from the fact that he's a slave driver." Pietro said as if stating an absolute fact and I couldn't help but agree with him.

Since the beginning he's always been looking out for the both of us, I could tell, talking to us, being there if we wanted him to be, even training us to become stronger.

Sigh!~

'Maybe it's best I don't think too much about it. Vision is too complicated to be understood so easily.'

"Well, even though I say that, at the end it doesn't matter what he is. I'm just glad Vis is here."

I raised an eyebrow at that. "When did you start calling him 'Vis'?" This wasn't the first time he's called him that and Vision doesn't seem to mind much about it.

"Oh, that? I just came up with it as a nickname and he liked it." He sniffed his armpits and reeled back in disgust at the smell before looking back at me. "Be back, Wanda. I have to freshen up."

He ran off in a streak of blue and white, leaving me alone in this training space.

I looked at my hands and ghostly red wisps of energy started cloaking it until it was fully covered. He once pointed out that my abilities' only limit was only due to my applications so…

I chuckled and shook my head at the ridiculous thought that just came to me. That would be too terrifying if it was possible.

"I wonder what Vision is doing…" I thought for a bit on whether to call him but shrugged it off. "I can ask him all I want later."

[Nick Fury POV]

I hate this.

I absolutely fucking hate this.

You'd think people like these who were actually in the know about what was really happening in the world and beyond would have an expanded 'worldview', so to speak, and at least put down some of their greed and make their moral lines bolder when the need arise, but no.

'They're all just a bunch of old greedy fools who still think connections and shares are what's still important in today's age.'

Even my decades of experience was hard pressed to suppress the scowl of utter irritation that threatened to mark my face as I read through what they decided to do in order to 'curb' the Avengers 'growing' influence.

It was shoddy work at best and given that I can spot it easily with one eye, no doubt Stark and Steve can also do the same, and if what I hear of that Vision is true, it's pretty easy to see how this is gonna blow up to high heavens.

The Avengers were on thin ice with this, not only against the government but also against themselves, this Accord will be the proverbial writing on the wall that fucks everything over.

"Does Stark knows this?"

"Yes sir. He hasn't said anything since he got the files." Maria Hill said as she went through a file of her own. "I don't think there's much we can do on this one, boss."

I laughed at that. How ironic is that? There's nothing Nick Fury can do about a bunch of senile backdated fools playing with what they don't understand.

"You're right. It's time they pick up after themselves. I can't always be there to clean up after them, they'll get spoiled that way." I gave the files a once-over and for a brief moment, my eye paused on the name written on it. "The Avengers is theirs to do what they want with it. Give the kids their toys and a little autonomy and you'll see how much hell they can raise."

Still, I don't like how this is moving all at once. I know there's something greater at play here and I need to know what it really is. Who's moving frantically behind the backseats?

"What's Ross been doing?"

That man was the very definition of a sly fox and wasn't above using any means to get it. His voice hasn't been all that loud and it's sending all sorts of warning bells in my head.

"Nothing much as far as we know. He recently clocked in at a base in Nevada and he's been under for the last week and counting."

Hmm, suspicious. The Ross I know won't let a chance like this pass him by.

"Notify me if there's any suspicious movements on his end."

"Yes sir."

Well, I've done all I could. Hope you boys can pick up the slack and catch up.

"The world's been getting a lot strange since the Invasion. It's quite scary at times." I looked at the information on my tablet about a few talented individuals that've been cropping up and dressed up quite colorfully.

"It's a strange world we live in."
