Chapter 73: Twister

In the center of the tornado rose Luna, who had been driven by uncontrollable rage. It didn't want to know anything more about the humans, the excitement it had for this fight had completely disappeared when none of them died under its attacks.

So Luna decided to use all the energy it had saved so far to end this fight here and now.

Luckily for everyone, the tornado raised by the Breeder was far from the power that these pre-system beasts were capable of. The superblock suffered damage, but for the most part it withstood the worst of the onslaught and most of the survivors inside the flats were unharmed. However, Adam, Leonard and Noah were not so lucky.

Adam was at the time on the stairs to the first floor. He was forced to lie face down and cover his eyes while holding on to the railing with one hand. He held on as long as he could, but the wind picked him up and knocked him against the stairs a couple of times before he lost his grip. He went flying and was slammed into the walls a couple of times. By the time it was all over, Adam had a broken shoulder and several broken ribs, so getting up was painful.

Noah and Leonard fared worse. They were both on the roof, so when the tornado started they didn't have time to get off. Noah managed to cling, at the last moment, to the last rung of the ladder to the bottom floor when the tornado caught up with them. Noah felt like he was going to be sent flying. At the last instant, he grabbed Leonard's arm and held on to the ladder with all his strength.

The wind lifted them both into the sky. Leonard screamed as he tried to hold on to Noah with all his might, but he was starting to slip. Noah, for his part, tried to hold on, but his arm was reaching its limits. He closed his eyes, trying to concentrate only on not letting go of the ladder or Leonard, but soon the pain began to overcome him.

To make matters worse, the wind blew a large amount of small debris into the air, which began to hit both of them as time passed.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the wind stopped completely and Leonard and Noah landed on the roof. Noah was relieved to be alive, but there was something wrong with Leonard, who had been knocked unconscious by a piece of rock that hit him in the head moments before it was all over.

With some difficulty, Noah dragged Leonard to the top floor, where he forced him to swallow a health potion. Then he opened one of the apartments, left him inside and came out again. The hallway had become a mess. There were shards of glass and debris everywhere, but he was glad that the force of the tornado had not been enough to compromise the structure of the building.

He peered through the railing and looked out over the car park. The attack seemed to have stopped, as the same tornado had also affected numerous Stalkers.

However, he watched nervously as a Berserker entered the car park from the street and knew that the heavy artillery had arrived. The Breeder seemed to be nowhere to be seen, but Noah would be lying if he thought their attack was over. He was pretty sure they had pissed him off.

Indeed, behind him there was a dull thud and Noah turned in time to meet the Breeder head on. It was standing on the railing of the building and staring at him.

"I'm screwed," was all he managed to say before he started running with all his might.

The Breeder could have summoned his spear, but he was sick of everyone dodging it, so he jumped into the narrow corridor and decided to chase after his victim.

Noah wanted to turn and attack, but his left arm, the one he used to shoot, was not in good condition after holding onto the ladder for so long during the tornado, so he just ran.

He thought for a moment about what would happen if the Breeder came into the apartment and went after Leonard, but decided that, the way things were going, everyone would have to rely on their own luck. His didn't look too good, as the Breeder was following him down the hallway at high speed.

If Noah expected the Breeder to have difficulty walking down the corridor when it must have been about 10 feet tall, that vanished when the zombie began to run on all fours, as if it were a dog.

Noah sped up his aching body and made it to the stairs, which he jumped down just in time to dodge the Breeder's attack, which shattered part of the wall and the staircase railing in a single blow.

Noah landed badly and ended up falling to the ground, but luckily the Breeder had accelerated too much during the attack and ended up stopping just beyond the staircase. This gave Noah time to get up and continue his descent.

After descending another two floors, to the 10th floor, he found the Breeder jumping down the outside of the railing. The zombie jumped on him again and this time there was nothing to save him.

The attack penetrated his armor like it was nothing and opened up a serious wound in his stomach. Noah fell to the ground and everything began to fill with blood. Luckily, just when he thought he was going to die, a spell hit the Breeder in the side.

It was Ivy, she and Tarin had taken shelter inside one of the apartments when the tornado hit the building. As they came out, the first thing they noticed was the mess that had formed in the car park. But after a few minutes, something worse descended from the upper floors. The Breeder was watching the stairs, down which Noah had descended, and didn't notice them.

Ivy and Tarin froze for a moment, giving the Breeder a chance to attack Noah. But they reacted moments later and Ivy fired a globe of darkness straight at the zombie.

The balloon exploded over the Breeder's plumage and, unlike the last time it had happened, caused considerable damage. The Breeder glared at them angrily, but at that moment Tarin cast a blizzard that covered it completely and Ivy used one of the spells she had recently acquired [Blindness]. A layer of magical darkness covered the Breeder's eyes and eliminated his vision completely.

Luna was completely confused, it was the first time it had lost its vision and didn't like it at all. Besides, the annoying blizzard was proving to be a problem. The damage was minuscule, but its plumage was freezing and was hard to move.

Its anger was replaced by fear, Luna tried to circulate its energy to launch another tornado. Unfortunately, it had little energy left, so it could only rely on its physical abilities.

Meanwhile, Tarin and Ivy didn't think for a second about fighting the Breeder on their own, so they passed through the blizzard and approached Noah. Noah was already nearly unconscious, so Tarin forced him to swallow a health potion as they carried him to the lower floors.

"We need to find Adam, I think he's on the ground floor, there was a lot of fire there," said Tarin.

"Come on, we need to move before that monster gets to us," said Ivy.

Meanwhile, in the car park, another zombie appeared apart from the Berserker, who was trying to get through the trap full of Stalker's corpses. The new zombie held a huge, white-boned sword. It surveyed the mess left by the tornado in the superblock and then leapt hard. It landed on the shoulders of the Berserker, who plunged further into the corpses and then repeated the leap to land on the other side of the trap.

The Berserker watched the other zombie angrily, but concentrated on trying to get out of the trap. The sword zombie paid no attention to him and just approached the bridge with his sword held high and his eyes fixed on Zack's group.

Zack and his group left the apartment after the tornado was over. Although the disaster had given them some respite and many Stalkers had been killed, the Stalkers soon resumed their attack, so the group had trouble continuing to fight. Moreover, when they saw the approaching zombie, they knew they were in more trouble.

[Zombie Warrior].

"Watch out! That thing looks strong. Anin, try to hold it off while we stabilize things here."

Zack wished Miriam was nearby, for this was the time to get all the fatigue out of his system, but he soon stopped thinking about it. He raised his sword and prepared for a difficult fight.
