King.

Walking up to the peak of the mountain took a toll on most people. The harsh winds could knock someone off their feet and send them clambering off the side. The cold weather didn't help.

Selene and I had waited until the pack leaders had arrived before making are way up. It would send a message to them; we are more important than you and you should be the ones to wait, not us.

I'm sure it would piss them off, especially the Antarctic Pack's leader.

I wonder how Isaiah's been? We didn't leave on favorable terms. I realize that… I killed Alpha Kaen. I didn't regret it, but I knew that he had a family. I felt sad that they would have to live through his death but at the end of the day, he was quite frankly, a piece of human shit.

If I could go back in time, without being insane or losing my mind, I know I would have done the same exact thing.

An Alpha that doesn't obey his king is not someone that I would trust with Isaiah. Isaiah HAS grown weak. Maybe too kind would be more apt, but they both amount to the same thing. Rosalind made his life better, sure. But they way he is now? He is not fit to rule. Too kind. Too… emotional.

He chose not too kill alpha Kaen for a multitude of reasons. His family, his place in the pack, the fear of losing the faith of the other alphas that ruled over America, etc.

It all amounts to a weak mind. Being king required making the right choice, no matter how wrong that choice would be.

I left as an enemy, and would return as their king.

As I walked up the last step of the mountain, A small cabin stood in the center of the flat peak. It was slightly larger than Frode's, made from a bright, pale wood that was almost blending in to the snow. The lights shone out from the side window. The scent of cooked meat hit us and my mouth watered.

Not from the smell, but from anticipation.

Fenrir was restless in my mind. Him being a wolf, he had an inherent need for dominance over others. I could feel this need blending with mine. It was almost primal.

I heard Isaiah's angry voice from outside the cabin. The harsh wind blocked most of the conversation, however.

I knocked once when the wind died down.

"No one else is showing up." I heard a female voice call.

"No, there is another." Frode spoke in Old Norse.

He had apparently hired a translator as I heard someone repeat what he'd said in English.

"Another? Frode, you know this is between the 7 packs. No one else can interfere." Isaiah said in an angry tone.

Without waiting for someone to open the door, Selene kicked in it hard. It flew into the room and landed on the table that was between the 7 Packs.

Selene walked in with her head held high. The room immediately stood and turned to her with tense bodies.

"Shut the fuck up and sit." Selene said.

Her voice fell like a waterfall. It came crashing down on everyone's shoulders. They threw themselves into their chairs, some almost falling backwards. Their jaws were clenched tight.

I peeked into the doorway with a raised eyebrow. "Uh… That was a bit agressive, Selene."

She huffed a breath. "Who cares? It is cold outside."

"You… knocked down the door." I said in a blank tone. "The cold air is just gonna come inside… because there's no door… to stop the wind from coming inside…"

She blushed lightly.

"Relax, Frode." I said as I walked in.

Frode relaxed and his jaw unclenched before he responded to me in Norse. "Thank you, grandfather."

I turned and looked at Isaiah and Rosalind who both stared at me with wide eyes. I saw Isaiah hands clench and sneered at him before sitting on one of the chairs that Selene had dragged over for us.

I crossed my legs and leaned back on two chair pegs. I leaned my head back and closed my eyes for a long moment.

"Birger?" Selene's soft voice broke the silence.

"Hmm?"

"Nothing. I trust you."

I smiled at that.

I placed both of my feet on the raised pegs of the chair and balanced myself perfectly before slamming down and placing my arms on my knees.

"Okay. Introductions. I know Frode and Isaiah and Rosalind." I turned to the large man who had a beard that could rival Frode's. "I'm guessing you're the Antarctic Pack's leader."

He nodded sullenly.

I turned to Frode. "Is she here?"

He nodded at a woman who was in the hallway, sitting on the floor. The woman's eyes widened as she noticed everyone staring at her.

"Hmm." I hummed quietly. "Good job, Frode. Doesn't look like much to be proud of anyway."

He chuckled and the large man tensed.

"Oh? You wanna go, big guy?" I grinned. "Go ahead. Come at me."

The command rolled off him and he immediately stood up and marched towards me. "You fucker! You come to the pack meeting unannounced and insult my mate!"

His voice held a faint trace of an accent. Probably Australian. Odd.

I stood up as he approached me as Selene growled.

He was fast. If I blinked, I would have missed his fist that was aimed at my skull. I simply ducked my head and turned it before biting down on his wrist. I felt his bones break under my teeth.

"ARGH-" he screamed, but I cut him off by placing my hand over his mouth.

He tried to punch me with his other hand, but I snatched it with my own. I twisted it until I heard a snap.

I let go of both of his hands, given they were useless now, and stared into his eyes.

"I'm going to let go of your mouth now. If you scream or make any other noise that may irritate me- I'll break your ankles too."

His eyes were wide as he tried to nod.

I turned to the woman that sat in the hallway. "Girl. What's your name and who is your mate?"

"H-Hildred. My mate is… Amalgam, the leader of the Antarctic Pack. And I-"

"Oh, I must have misspoke. I could have sworn I only asked the name of you and your mate, right?"

I turned to Selene. "Did I misspeak?"

She grinned a wolffish smile. "No."

"Hmm. Strike 2 for the Antarctic pack." I turned back to Hildred. "One more strike… and you're out."

She gulped.

"Amalgam." I turned to the large man. "Interesting name. Does it have any meaning?"

"I-"

"It was rhetorical. I don't care."

Selene giggled before speaking. "Birger, don't bully my children."

I grunted. "Right, the seven Continental pack leaders."

My gaze raked across them all but skipped past a woman from the Chinese Pack. "You all have some serious explaining to do."

Selene snapped her fingers and the people filling the room tensed. They could move and speak freely.

"Before we begin," I turned to the human who was shaking in the corner. He was manning a camera that was attached to a tripod. "Who are you?"

"I- um- I'm doing a- I'm-"

"Dude. Chill the fuck out and just speak." I snorted.

He gulped and nodded. "I'm… currently researching werewolf culture."

He gestured to the camera. "This is currently being live streamed on multiple streaming services. I wouldn't be surprised if the news stations were using this as well."

I grunted. I suppose in this case, publicity was good. The werewolves needed to hear this immediately after all.

"Birger! I've told you time and time again! This is pack business! You can't j-"

Selene growled low in her throat and the cabin shook. The people gathered at the table turned to her with shock.

"Pack business this- pack business that- who the fuck cares? It is no longer about the packs, Isaiah Reece. My mate and I believe that the 7 of you are not doing their jobs properly. Given the recent increase in both rogues and rogue attacks, it involves the world as a whole." When she finished, she gestured at me to continue.

"Well." I nodded with a smile as I stared at the camera. "Hello, viewers. Tonight will be a very special nigh-"

"Birger…" Selene face palmed. "Take this seriously."

I chuckled softly. "My bad. Anyway, if you're a werewolf, listen up. This," i gestured to Selene. "Is my mate, Selene. She is the moon goddess."

Isaiah shouted in a rage. "BIRGER! ENOUGH GAMES!"

They all started yelling in anger at my words when they all cowered down at Fenrirs voice. He was speaking to their wolves.

I will eat you if you interrupt me again. You people have ruined my mate's reputation. The humans think that you are not doing a good job, and I am inclined to agree. Sit. Silence. Listen.

They all gulped and sat back down.

"Um… Mr..?" The human asked from behind the camera.

"Birger Age." I said.

He nodded. "Mr.Age, may I provide commentary as you speak?"

"Sure. I know how twitch streams work. You can ask questions later, after I finish my speech."

He nodded excitedly. "Awesome-!"

I turned back to face the camera. "Anyway. I am your king. It's as simple as that. I've experienced rogue attacks first hand and can confirm that the werewolf community is not doing their job properly."

I heard several growls behind me. I turned to them, my back facing the camera.

"What? You think I'm wrong?"

A woman of Asian descent spoke up. "Yes! We can not control the actions of rogue wolves! They are not a part of our government!"

I crossed my arms over my chest. "Government? You think this is a human environment? We are not under the rules of humans."

I shook my head. "Are you guys fucking stupid? Like, seriously. You don't use the rules of checkers in a game of chess."

**Bella's POV**

We'd all heard that this decade's pack meeting would be streamed live from all the news stations, streaming services, and recorded to be posted on YouTube for some human's documentary.

What we didn't expect was Birger showing up. With our literal Goddess. Who is his mate.

Honestly, could my life get any weirder?

The Forsaken Pack had gathered in the dining-room-turned-living-room of the motel we'd renovated. The two who had came to help/kill Birger had both introduced themselves. Malum, The leader/king of dark elves who was also a god and Lucifer freaking Morningstar, The Devil himself.

I had sat down in the center of the room. We'd turned this whole room into a sort of recreational area for our pack. There was a ping pong table, pool table, dart board, the whole 'sha-bang'.

Lucifer sat on my left with his legs crossed, (which I discovered was his favorite way to sit as he never moved an inch,) while Malum sat on my right.

They both seemed surprisingly… 'chill' for a pair of the used-to-be-most-evil-creatures.

The 75 inch flat screen tv we'd mounted on the wall behind the bar area was turned up to max volume.

We'd all been excited about seeing a Pack Meeting for the first time. Not even I have seen one.

The human had introduced himself as 'Matt TV'. Some streamer from a website called twitch. He then introduced the many people that had gathered around the table located in the center of the lodge.

"Hello everyone!" Matt smiled excitedly as he stared into the camera. "For the first time in history, an outsider has been invited to the Pack Meeting. For those unaware, the leading pack of each continent meet every decade to discuss various subjects and/or operations!"

The human was clearly excited. I could understand completely. Even us werewolves have never seen a Pack Meeting first hand. It was a very closed-off subject. Only the leading alphas and lunas were allowed to join. Typically, there were only 14 people present. 2 for each continent.

"And now," Matt continued, "let me introduce the members!"

“We are in the throes of a transition where every publication has to think of their digital strategy.”
