EVENTFUL EVENING

While in the school hall I discovered that Vee is dumb. She can't even say the Lord's Prayer and I was made to do it. A certain Christopher hit on her and I got into a fight that was stopped by Markus who I now know is also hitting on her. He even had the guts to flirt with her publicly. If the head boy is like this then his subordinates must be no better. I like shorty though; calm and collected and all that stuff. Will she still punish me if I make her mine? The freckle boy or Markus decided to take us around the school for a tour.

I did not expect that the tour would be him taking us to the library but it wasn't like other normal libraries; it looked like some mystical place where records of old are kept and it was pretty cool for me even though I don't like libraries or reading. I left Marcus and olive in one Ali and I'm sure they did not even notice I was gone. I went to section with books about pregnant women. It's something that has always interested me. I still want to clarify if the baby is in the stomach or the uterus.

There I saw shorty standing on a stool trying to grab the book from the top shelf and she still couldn't reach I couldn't control myself and burst into laughter. She was even standing on her tip toes and it made it even more funny. She looked at me with a deep frown on her face as I was laughing while pointing at her.

"Is that how you treat a lady?" she asked a little shy.

"I can't tell how short you are exactly that you cannot reach even when you are standing on a stool and using the tips of your toes and stretching your arm."

Her frown deepened and her eyes darkened. She had lovely eyes.

I managed to make myself quiet again as I walked towards her.

"Back down." I said shrugging my shoulders. She did so but I could tell it hurt her pride to be listening to me and it made me feel superior. I got on the stool myself because I know I can't reach the top shelf from the ground.

"Which book?"

"The red one."she said.

"There are five red books here."

"If you can read you would know that they're the same kind."

I pouted my lips at her and it brought a quiet smile to her lips. I pulled out a book sullenly and extended my hand to her but I'm feeling mischievous so I'll do something. I lifted my hand higher just when she was about to reach the book and giggled when her expression became sour. She tried jumping and I kept playing with her. It was fun until she pushed me off the stool and I fell to the ground.

I was still groaning in pain when she stepped on my hand that was holding the book making me release it to instantly. She took it and walked away.

"It's also nice to meet you, shorty."I said to her but she did not turn to take one last look at me.

I did not get the pregnancy book and instead got a math book. I went back and joined Marcus and Olive and I was right they still had noticed that I had gone some where. I was grateful for that because I did not have to explain anything. It was soon prep time and I was saddened by the fact that I was not the same table as Olive or Markus. I was happy because my table had a lot of girls and shorty was sitting with Olive so at least I know Christopher won't be bothering her.

I didn't study much because I kept on looking at the girls at the table and they did the same. I feel apologetic towards the parents of this children who are here admiring a boy instead of paying attention to their studies. After prep I went to talk to Markus. When I looked over at Olive's table she was gone and so was shorty

"Isn't your sister coming for dinner?" Marcus asked. I had no answer for him because Olive never skips meals.

We went outside to try and find her but she was long gone. I headed to the lunchroom accompanied by Marcus and we ate together. The walk back to the dorm was very quiet and I used that time to look at the stars.

"Is there a good spot to watch the stars?" I asked Marcus and he shook his head.

"Even if they are you can't come out at night. I see. Are you interested in astrology or something."

"No the stars are just fascinating. Like people they all shine differently."

"That's some pretty deep stuff."

"I know, I'm not shallow."

As we were walking back to the dorm we ran into the man with a grey shirt and black hair who had been present in the hall:brother Michael. He was now in a black shirt and black trouser that I believe is paired with some jacket but he was not wearing the jacket right now.

"Evening boys." the greeting was hardly reciprocated because he walked away so quickly.

"What's his deal?" I asked Marcus

"His just like that. He greets you, you don't greet him."

"Ohhh my type of guy. I hate having to greet teachers."

"Then I guess you'll be besties."

"I am not a guy to be friends with a teacher" "Why so?"

"Because there's that getting all clingy when I do something wrong."

"I get you. It's not so easy to be head boy when everyone is watching."

"And now I need to respect you." I added thoughtfully. He grumbled something but I did not quite get it and I did not ask either. When we went to our floor I'm noticed that none of the other boys came up then I asked horrified, "Are we the only ones sleeping up here?"

"Yeah, are you scared?"

"No, it was just shocking. Why though?"

"The graduates from last year were the ones occupying these rooms. It's just the two of us here."

"So you were up here all alone?"

"Yeah. I got used to it."

I nodded my head and then looked down at the flight of stairs we had gone up to get to the fourth floor where our rooms were. To get to one floor there were to sets of fifteen steps but from the third floor to this one we had three sets of sixteen steps. Why?

"Why are we further away from everyone else?" I asked Markus who was looking at the door of his room.

"I was told there is some sort of store room in between. I've never found the door though. It's supposed to be on the wall and I must say that they hide it well." he answered.

"So I'll be alone next year." I said thoughtfully looking at the dimly lit corridor,"Can we sleep in your room tonight?"

"You won't be alone. I'm in tenth grade. And sharing rooms isn't allowed." he answered.

"Tenth grade?" I asked in disbelief,"But you're the head boy."

"The head boy is chosen by merit and good behavior. I got lucky."

It makes sense why people don't listen to him. Even I wouldn't listen to a junior.

"I'll get my room changed to the one next to yours tomorrow morning just let me stay for the night." I pleaded.

He was quiet for a while but he ended up agreeing with me. We got my stuff from my room so I wouldn't have to move them in the morning and we took them to his room. He had some snacks stashed in his wardrobe and I took a bag of crisps but he took it from me and put it back.

"Great. I have a stingy room mate." I complained and he just smiled at me.

"I'll give it to you in the morning. Let me show you our personal bathroom."

"Personal bathroom? You don't use a common one?" I asked narrowing my eyes at him.

"They do but us up here.....we have our own."

I smiled feeling relieved because I won't have to be seen naked by people I don't know. He took his uniform off and remained in a boxer and a vest then he placed the uniform on the bed. I did the same and then we went to the bathroom. It was quite spacious and clean too. I brushed my teeth and peed in readiness for bedtime but I had to wait a little because Markus had decided to take a shower. I stepped out of the bathroom to look around our floor more closely. The bathroom was straight to the stairs while my room was on the right, last room while Markus'room was on the opposite side.

It was just a single long passage with rooms at its ends. I took the liberty to take my tooth brush back to the bedroom. I was going to remain there but I heard Markus talking to someone. I hope that his loneliness has not driven him to madness. I opened the door and saw that he really wasn't alone. There was a short boy standing in front of my bedroom where the door was open.

"Excuse me, are you lost?" Markus asked walking towards the boy in his boxers as he had discarded his vest.

The boy didn't answer but he turned to look at Markus and then at me and I waved at him.

"Who are you?" Markus asked and this time the boy smiled eeriely,"I don't think I have seen you here before."

Then the boy lifted his hands sideways and wiggled around like an octopus, bonelessly. I'd be lying if I said that wasn't scary.

"Hey head boy, I think we should just call Br Michael." I suggested feeling goosebumps rise on my nape.

Markus walked closer to the boy but before he could get closer, the boy started convulsing like he was being possessed and Markus instinctively started to run towards me. When he got in I shut the door and the boy outside threw himself to the door.

"Get the key in my school jacket."

I did so and when the door was locked the banging stopped too.
