CHAPTER 14

I looked up to see him looking down at me, his gaze soft and gentle but it was gone in a blink.

I blinked again and again but those eyes were gone, and were never coming back.

A smirk played on his lips, "Seems like you are smitten, milady" he said to earn a chuckle.

Maybe I was smitten but I wouldn't show it, ladies are meant to play hard to get.

I rolled my eyes at him, standing on my toes I whispered in his ears, "Won't the lady in the porcelain locket be angry?" I asked.

His eyes seemed to change but they were back to normal in no time.

"I didn't bring her along… I don't bring her to social gatherings"

My lips formed an "oh", cause that's weird he always brought me wherever he went when I was with him.

'Well since there's no Alicia, I had nothing to worry about' I thought as I remained in his arms.

"The moon goddess" Ana said from the back of my head.

That's right I have to worry about the curse and not be too close to Damon, but I didn't want to leave the way we were together.

"You are the lady that claimed to be Lily right?" He asked.

I withdrew from his arms at once. I thought he wouldn't remember that. His eyes searched mine, looking for a clue but I gave out nothing. I just wanted to do as the moon goddess instructed to avoid any troubles.

"You are not her right?" He asked and I looked away. He grabbed my chin, turning me to face him.

"Tell me" he demanded.

"And if I don't… Lily is dead" I said, dragging the last few words.

His demeanor changed. The ferocity in his eyes made me shudder. His eyebrows constricted as he glared at me.

I have never seen him look so angry. But the expression disappeared as his face became devoid of emotions but there was sadness in his eyes. He released me and left the hall.

I looked around, seeing that no one saw him leave… or so I thought.

I followed after him.

I had never been to this part of the compound. There was a fountain with a wolf statue on it, the wolf's mouth was open and water was gushing out of it and filling the pond.Short trees filled the place, beautifully trimmed in different shapes and sizes.

My feet made their way across the fountain, that's when I saw Damon, he was so focused on something invisible, maybe thinking. I walked to him

"Something on your mind" I asked.

He ignored my question. I knew what was on his mind and yet I was here asking him like I didn't know.

"What do you want, Miss Ariona?" he asked. I still didn't know how he knew my name. It could only be from the Old Alpha Cassio.

'That deceitful wolf'

"I want to keep you company"

He scoffed. His face turned red in anger.

"Like the last time right?" He asked. I nodded. I couldn't let him bear the pain alone.

He truly longed for Lily or should I say… me.

We sat on one of the benches facing the fountain. The werewolves were not taking this route so it was calm and safer.

We sat in silence, watching the waters that kept flowing out of the fountain.

"Did you know Lily?" He asked, taking me by surprise.

My eyes widened as I subconsciously shifted on the bench.

"Did you know her?" He asked again.

"You claimed to be her… so you would know her" my thoughts wandered off.

'What was I going to say?'

"Yes… I knew her for a short while" I told him.

He turned to me, but I didn't do the same. I knew that emotions were probably roaming through my eyes at the moment.

He looked away.

"How did you get here?" He asked.

"Last time I checked, you were around the Wildfire pack and now you are at the Solstice pack which is very far from it," He said.

'It was just far if you went because of the sea'

"I have business to do here" I told him

"Really?" He asked, his eyebrows raised. He didn't believe me. I shook off the thought.

"Business like being the Old Alpha Cassio's wolf" he asked, a playful smirk on his lips.

I gritted my teeth,

'He hasn't changed one bit'

"Am no one's wolf" I corrected, my jaw clenched.

The Old Alpha corrected himself at the party, but I guess, the correction didn't sink into his brains. He was obviously trying to make fun of me.

He raised his hands in the air.

"You don't have to worry… I heard what the Old Alpha said afterwards" he said but that playful smirk still graced his lips.

I wanted to erase that smile on his face but seeing him lighten up even a little made me happy, so I let him have his way.

He stood up walking towards the fountain and I followed closely behind him.

"Have you ever tried making wishes at the fountain?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes, I had done that a lot of times and he was the reason.

"I have done it a couple of times," I replied.

He got out a coin from his pocket, passing it to me, which I took,

I tossed the coin into the water,

"That's so fast," he said, turning to me.

"Let's be generous and try tossing it from different angles"

What was he trying to do? tossing coins from different angles didn't mean much.

"If you want different answers, you have to try different ways," he said.

I stared at him for a while, this isn't the same Damon that I knew.

Trying things in different ways wasn't his thing, he was always rigid about what he wanted, what changed him so much.

His smile grew wider when he noticed my stares. I looked away at once.

Taking a coin from him, I took a different position, closing my eyes. I tossed the coin and it splashed into the water.

A smile involuntarily curled up on my lips.

This seemed like fun.

He took a position and did the same thing.

"I will go over to the left," he urged.

"Then I will take the right," I agreed.

We tossed yet another coin. Tossing coins nonstop.

The water splashed on my face almost ruining my makeup but I still had a smile.

It even grew wider with the way Damon was chuckling like a child, laughing at me obviously.

Looking so pure and innocent, this was what I wanted, for him to be alive and for me to watch him from afar with satisfaction.

Recently, my mind, my heart didn't want that, I don't just want to watch him from afar. I want to be close to him and feel him close to me too.

Ana agreed with me as she kept wagging her tail in anticipation.

'What would really become of the both of us, Damon and I'

These thoughts swirled through my head that I totally forgot that I was kidnapped and locked up in this place.

Wolf was a quick reminder as he appeared by the corner close to where we were.

His eyes watching my every move, having that scary smile on his lips, his eyepatch making him look more eerie.

I smiled at him. Damon couldn't see him as he was looking directly at me while I was looking at Wolf.

'What a guard'

I remained unbothered as Derek tossed his last coin into the water.

"You got a lot of coins on you" I told him.

He nodded with a smile.

"I didn't know where to offload them, I wanted to do the coin tossing with Lily but… " He paused.

"There's no problem, just believe that's she's happy to tossed all of them"

His eyes widened. He was getting better with his emotions unlike the last few minutes.

'I think the coins were a lot of burden to him'

'Well am Lily and am glad that he let out all that burden'

We walked over to me "I don't know why I feel attracted to you, Miss Ariona"

'Oh… now he's back'

"Attracted?" I asked feigning ignorance.

"I feel like I know you from somewhere" he said.

My eyes glanced everywhere but him. I could feel my hands shaking.

'Why can't I compose myself in front of him'

He took my hand, bringing his lips close to my ear as he whispered, "Someone is behind us right?"

My body shivered at the proximity between us. I gulped. I nodded multiple times.I wondered how he knew, maybe the scent.

My mind froze as I saw Wolf approaching us. I racked my brain thinking of what to do.

'I have to do something and fast'

Wolf was already standing close to us.

"Miss Ariona, we have to go," he said, leaving me astounded.
