"Won't that be a problem?" Reina also thought $1000 was too much for a student's monthly expenses.
The only way someone their age could have spent that much was if they had splurged on luxurious items.
"I already made sure of this with Mrs. Vivian. It's fine as long as we don't use it to buy anything illegal.
So just use it for our daily needs, sis. We can then save the rest for rainy days."
"But this is for your school expenses, Rafael. What if you need it?"
"Don't worry. In that case, you can just pay for me," Rafael replied with a smile.
Reina's eyes narrowed, looking at Rafael with suspicion.
"This is not one of your lies, right? You say this, but then you don't tell me anything when you really need it."
"Of course, sis. Don't you believe me? I will not lie to you."
"No, I don't. Just like yesterday, you lied to me."
"I am not lying… I just didn't tell you about it."
"And how is that different? Look, if you cannot convince me about this, I will just hold onto the card but won't use a single dollar from it."
Rafael's lips twitched. "Fine, how about this: you can just call my homeroom teacher or Mrs. Vivian each month to check if you are this paranoid."
Reina was still not convinced. "Yeah, right, like they will tell me everything. Who knows if you made a deal with them?"
"You are too paranoid, sis. What benefit would they have to cooperate with my lie?"
Hearing what Rafael said made Reina sigh. "You are right. Sorry, I am just too shaken up by what happened last time. Just take care of yourself, Rafael."
"Of course, sis. You need to believe me. There is no way we can live without trouble, but I will make sure to snuff it all out before it becomes a danger to us."
Reina let out a sigh. They talked some more, and then Rafael returned to his room. Usually, he would go directly back to sleep, but not this time.
Rafael took out the laptop he had gotten from the academy.
He thought it was like the newest model: lightweight, touchscreen, with high specs. But to his surprise, this one was heavy and very durable.
To turn it on, Rafael needed to use his fingerprint and iris in front of the webcam. It was clear the device had been created with durability as a priority.
The specs were still very high-end, but Rafael was baffled when he checked the guidebook.
It said the device could survive extreme temperatures, a drop from a ten-story building, and even getting shot by a bullet.
"Is this for a student or a soldier? Why would they do this?" Rafael mumbled.
But he didn't continue to complain since the item was free.
Inside, he found some of the necessary software he would need for school. One of them allowed him to directly access the library book database.
"Interesting, the school has every book saved as an ebook. I wonder if they have books from that library."
Rafael was curious since he remembered reading many occult titles.
He wondered if he could get any useful information, even though it was just fairy tales. But who knew if some of it was real?
Before what happened, he would have thought ninjas with abilities only existed in anime and novels. At this point, Rafael would take any information he could.
Real or not, he just wanted to satisfy his curiosity. Unfortunately, he couldn't find any titles from that library.
"It seems that one is really a personal collection of Mr. Velkan? I should ask Airine next time. She has worked there for a while now; she should know more."
Rafael still didn't give up. He started digging around forums, looking for anyone who shared a weird supernatural experience.
Most of it resulted in ghost stories, but as he kept digging deeper, he started finding some experiences similar to his own.
Their cases were more like pranks, but only some were really serious cases.
A woman shared a story where she was assaulted but couldn't see her attacker. At first, she thought she was dreaming or being crazy, but seeing the marks on her body, she knew it wasn't a dream.
The woman then started panicking, thinking she was assaulted by a monster or supernatural being. But after seeing the liquid left on her body, she quickly knew it wasn't.
She brought it to the hospital and got the result that it came from a healthy male.
Reading the comments, many dismissed the user as only farming for views and attention.
They didn't believe it was true.
So the woman, in desperation, released a short recording. It showed the beginning of the attack.
It recorded the woman's living room; she was pulled and attacked by something invisible.
The video quickly caused controversy, pushing it to the top popular thread on the platform.
But weirdly enough, it only lasted for a moment before the thread was pushed down.
The votes reduced in huge numbers despite everyone in the comments stating they were not downvoting the thread.
It was like the platform was purposely making sure the thread wouldn't reach headline news.
The updates from the thread owner were also weird.
For the first three months, she was so adamant it was the truth. But suddenly, she went missing, then one year later, she updated it, saying it was all fake.
"I wonder if she was really a troll or if someone paid her money to stay silent. If she was really trolling, it doesn't make sense.
No troll will admit to posting fake data. This one also showed her living room, which practically allowed netizens to track her location if someone really looked into it."
Other news he found showed things like items in a store floating by themselves at night, then disappearing from the store.
Each of them followed a similar path to the first news. The poster was adamant on the topic until they weirdly said they were just trolling.
