Chapter Fourteen
"Why do you hate Luke so much?"
"Are you sure you want to be asking this right now?" He looks down at me. I nod eagerly. Even though I had a bunch to drink, I still wanted to know.
"Well first off, I do not hate Luke. We just have some bad history together."
"Okay, strongly dislike." I correct myself.
"Luke and I used to date." He pauses to look down at me. I try to take that in before he continues.
"We were close in middle school and eventually fell for one another. We had a great relationship, I was happy. We kept it a secret though, we both had reputations to keep up, and we weren't really sure what we were doing.
Then one night I found out that Luke had been cheating on me with Sophie. I was crushed even though our relationship wasn't serious. I confronted him about it but he denied it. I knew then everything was over, including our friendship.
He tried to get back with me, but when I told him no, he shouted at me about how he had just used me for experimentation anyway. We've hated each other ever since that moment. Even though I had a bunch to drink, I still wanted to know. He's just a player."
I gaze at him in surprise. Him and Luke had been together. It was such a weird thing to think about. I would have never imagined either of them to like the same sex, let alone be with each other.
"We were best friends before we got together. I wish I could go back and never hook up with him so we'd still be friends."
"Damn, that's a lot to take in." I say slightly soberer after receiving this new information.
"Yeah, anyway, what happened between the two of you tonight?" He asks referring to Luke and me.
"I caught him full blown making out with Sophie." I cringe at the thought.
"Did you say anything?"
"Noooo, I ran away like a coward. I hate confrontations."
"You deserve better than him, Em. It's good you saw who he really is." I smile at the nickname.
"I guess you're right. He could have led me on for months."
All of a sudden I feel very nauseous and I put my hand to my mouth. This was not the time to get sick, Emma.
"Don't tell me you're going to puke." Ashton looks at me scared for his life. I nod at him, as I slightly gag. Oh no. He pushes me to the bathroom where I start puking as soon as I'm over the toilet.
I shouldn't have drank that much for my first time. I groan at my stupidity as I feel more bile coming up. Ashton pulls my hair back so I don't get puke in it. As I go to thank him, I'm met with more puke. Jeez.
"You should really sleep, you're going to feel like hell in the morning." Ashton says after I stop puking. I simply agree with him.
Helping me to my feet, I flush the toilet hating the sound it makes as my head pounds harder.
I rinse my mouth out in the sink and head back to Ashton's bedroom.
I lay down on the bed not wanting to move anymore.
"You know, you're not so bad," I say as he grabs another blanket for me.
"Uhm, thanks?"
"I like you." I blurt out, and I blush at the words I've just announced.
"Oh god, just don't listen to me. I'm never drinking again." I facepalm.
"Is that why you called me instead of your brother." Well, I guess he knew about Alex.
"He's annoying. I did not feel like getting lectured tonight I will have you know."
"That's an older brother's job." He smirks down at me.
"Uh-huh. Whatever you say, Ashton." I roll my eyes and turn to face him,
"Why did you pick me up?" I say more seriously.
"Uhm, it sounded like you really needed a ride." He says rubbing his neck,
"It's no problem, really."
"It really isn't, I'm sorry I woke you up." I stare at my hands.
"It's okay." He says moving me to look at him.
I move myself slowly to get situated in the bed and sigh in the content of the warmth.
"I'll be downstairs if you need anything." He says halfway out of the room, I nod in response just wanting to sleep away tonight.
"Goodnight." I manage to get out before he's gone. I hear a faint goodnight in return before I fall asleep.
