"Don't make an enemy of me, Mr. Ford"
"Is that supposed to be a threat?"
"You, tell me, Mr. Ford. What do you think? Are you accepting or not"
Alex had left the clubhouse but wouldn't stop replaying the conversation he just had. It had spoilt his mood and his jaws were tightened in frustration.
His emotions were all over the place, and he hated how he felt. How can someone piss him off to a point where anger was burning.
It seems like he had been very lenient recently which made some people collect from the leniency more than him.
"Where to, Sir?" asked the driver when he realized that his boss wasn't going to say anything after getting into the car.
Looking at the watch on his wrist, Alex turned to the driver "It's 8:00 pm, head back to the office"
He was shocked by the time himself. How could he sit through two hours with that annoying and disrespectful man? Thinking about how he had to endure disrespect for that long, brought back the anger he had slightly simmered down. "On second thought, Marcus. Take me home, please."
The thought of the beautiful woman in his house gave him a promise of a better night. Alex smiled a little remembering her beautiful face.
"And, Marcus, I am glad that you are fine and back to work," Alex said after it dawned on him that his driver was back to work.
"Thank you, sir. Hope that my son wasn't of any disturbance. Marcus answered with a smile.
"Of course not, he is indeed your son. You raised him well Marcus" Alex replied politely
The comment made Marcus smile. He became more proud of his son, especially since a man like his boss could recognize the efforts that he put in while raising his boy. "Thank you so much, Mr. Ford."
"No problem, Marcus. I am more thankful to you for being a good man willing to serve my family and me."
"Of course, sir, I am happy to."
And with that, the two went back into comfortable silence till they got to Alex's penthouse. He was glad to be home, something that had become the current norm—him smiling as soon as the car stopped at the entrance of the building.
"Have a good night, Marcus, and greet the family. See you tomorrow." Alex came out of the car as Marcus sent him his response with a smile to which Alex gave a slight nod before heading to the entrance of his building.
Marcus turned the car and disappeared into the darkness that was lost in the bright lights that illuminated the city.
The elevator opened to silence, but that didn't break Alex's smile for he knew that she was a few stairs away. He walked into the lounge area while loosening his necktie while looking around for evidence of life.
Seeing none, he went up the stairs two at a time "Welcome home, Alpha"
And there it was, the evidence of life he was seeking. He turned when he heard Dawson's voice and came back down to the bottom of the stairs, something he didn't want to do, but human etiquette demanded him to.
"How was your day, Dawson? he asked as he took off his tie from around his neck.
"Just the usual, Alpha."
"Good, usual is better than nothing.
"Of course, Alpha," answered Dawson with a slight smile especially after seeing how restless his Alpha looked. Dawson could tell that he was in a hurry to go and see the Luna, but was being courteous towards him.
"Dinner will be done in about thirty minutes, Alpha." And just like that, he could see him breathing again. Dawson shook his head in amusement before calling out to Alex who was back to climbing two steps at a time "I will be in the kitchen in case you need anything"
Alex could detect the amusement in Dawson's words and chose to ignore it but smiled knowing exactly why. Dawson knew Alex like the back of his hand since the man had practically raised. He was like a father, but a softer and more likable version.
As he neared Malia's room, he shook his head to prevent his thoughts from running any further.
Opening her door, he came face to face with dim lighting and her scent that wafted into his nose accompanied by a mixture of medicine. He got closer to her bed and moved to turn on the bedside lamp by her bed needing to look at her beautiful face.
Looking at her lying there like an angel frozen in time, except that she had evidence of life with the way her chest rose and fell softly.
Malia had become his everything over the past weeks that he had known her; something he wasn't sure was expected, but he could get used to it. Alex was comforted by the thought that she was his despite her not knowing it. He couldn't argue the fact that she was interested in him since she let him kiss and touch her, not once but twice.
"Hey, princess. How was your day?" Alex asked, knowing too well that no response would come out, but it was enough that he had memories of her smile. "Mine was hectic and ended with an old man pissing the heck out of me." holding her hand from where it was lying on her side; he lifted it to his lips and kissed the back of her palm " glad that I have you to come home to, you make all the long days at the office worthwhile."
Alex stayed by her side a little longer, asking questions that he eventually answered and talking to her, and it helped because his mood lightened. By the time Dawson came by to call him for dinner, he was feeling better.
"See you in a while, baby. I am because I am famished" he kissed her lips before leaving her room.
