The bright, golden eyes of the Alpha returned to their gorgeous sheen and without word, he sprang to life and pushed the friends around him out of his way and took to his giant, black wolf form.
He easily towered over the other males in their mortal forms, and it took no effort to burst through their bodies and bolt out the door.
The King was going to go on pure instinct and scent alone, and with her only being recently moved, that would mean her essence would still be fresh and easy to follow. Even if she hadn't stepped on the ground herself, the perfume from the oils on her skin were heavy, and were easy to track.
Metas didn't care to look behind him, but he could hear the nails of the others scrape and click against the stone floor as they tried to catch up to their Alpha. The further he went down the tunnels, the heavier the fragrance of Myranda became.
His heart tightened and his stomach sank into the pit of his soul as he went down further and further into the tunnels - past her old home, past the place where they had rallied, even past the textile region. Whoever took her had been quite sure to try to tuck her deep away in the depths of the massive rock they called home.
The Alpha could feel his gums flare as the cold air hit with the spice of warm oils whipped his face with how swiftly he was running. His teeth were easily seen to anyone who stepped out to see the source of the skittering in the halls as they echoed like terribly-timed maracas.
Those curious enough either trailed far behind the four males who were right behind the flash of black, or stayed out to listen for anything that may give them a clue as to what was going on.
Some didn't care at all - because they had their own problems to deal with, or they had a bad taste in their mouths from the new ruler's edicts. In fact, some even knew what was going on and chose to ignore it because they didn't want to share in the punishment.
A wise decision, too - because with how angry Metas looked, the penalty was going to be high.
As he was getting closer to the end of the tunnels, Myranda's fragrance was heavy and 'pulsed' in his nose outside the door of a rather large home - the leader of the refinery sector's to be exact. This was puzzling.
There was also the coppery scent of blood that mixed with his wife's beautiful pheromones.
Metas pressed his massive paws against the doors and used his sharp claws to slash at the heavy door that was blocking him out. With each fierce swipe, splinters of wood shattered into the air, and the cracks from audible breaks in the boards were loud as they exploded inwards.
It was dark in the entrance hall, and it smelled of recently doused fires - but he could easily pick up his wife's scent above the fresh smoke still snaking up from their sources on the small pyres that lit the hall.
"Bring me my wife, and I won't slay you slowly," Metas roared in a mighty growl.
No response.
"Last chance - bring me my Luna, or become my trophies!" He warned - for there was no threat here. He meant every word.
At last, he received a response.
Another rather large male bounded out of the darkness of the crevices of the large, round entryway hall, and came down on Metas in a clash of claws.
Undeterred, the Alpha was well versed in one-on-one bouts, and easily recovered in a roll and shake that removed the attacker off of him.
In the dim light from the outside, he could barely make out a face - but he knew that scent.
His disappointment was more than vast - it was unending as the eyes he beheld had been ones he knew from his childhood.
"....Gerald?" He asked, which stunned him and caused him to pause his next attack. "...Why?"
Just before the large brown wolf could answer, the rest of Metas' close pack came bursting into the room behind him - each covered in their own respective colored coats to join the fray.
"Gerry? What the fuck?!" Ajax sputtered out in disbelief.
"What the fuck to you in return," Gerald snarled and showed his full teeth. "You left me here - like you always do. I'm nothing but an unwanted tag-along, and I always have been! I'm so sick of it. I'm sick of being your pageboy. I'm sick of being abandoned to the worst tasks - forgotten and kept out of the circle. You even replaced me. You and Ajax have always left me in your shadows, and I want to make sure you never do again."
"Goddesses, man....that's some deep, childish resentment," Jyriah stated as he cringed inwardly. "Are you a grown-up, or like...?"
"Jyr-" Joss hissed and swiped his paw at the back of his mate's ear.
"See? This. This is what I'm talking about! You replaced me. I waited for you. I looked after your bitch's place. I even took shit for you when I kept trying to usher the others into keeping their belief in you. How did you repay me? You gave me a nice house - and the rest of those assholes get to live in the castle /and/ get titles? You are ungrateful, and if you aren't going to recognize me; I'll make sure you never forget me again." Gerald continued in a cold monologue.
"I agree with Jyriah - this is really childish, Ger. We were in talks about a place in the ranks once the wedding and crowning ceremony was over. Metas had you in a speech. You had a reward coming you fucking cuck. How dare you betray us - and worse than that - how dare you think we forgot you!" Ajax barked back in anger.
"Where is my wife?" Metas repeated.
"She's probably getting fucked by Lobos right now." The snubbed wolf replied snidely.
"..Wait... Lobos? Lara's dad, Lobos?" Ajax questioned indignantly.
"Yeah. This was his entire plan...but you've never been very smart, so I'm not going to waste my breath explaining it all," Gerald returned spitefully.
Metas didn't care for this dialogue. His paws pancaked against the floor as he put all of his weight into the leap he made over Gerald, who tried in vain to turn and stop the Alpha - but in turn, he was ambushed by Joss and Veltar, while Jyriah and Ajax followed Metas.
Loud cries and whines resonated behind the three males as they left Gerald in the very capable hands of their allies.
Thanksgiving and my kiddo's birthday party are coming up - but I'm going to try to keep a steady update schedule through it! :D
I may not be worthy of a contract, but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to give it my /all/ and make you guys happy. You're more important than money to me, and I genuinely mean that.
This year, I am thankful for YOU - all of you! Thank you so much for reading this novel, and being my inspiration to not give up!
