War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

A Relic of the Old World

Myranda was not easily subdued. The moment the two males opened the pantry doors, she came out writhing and jerking around to make it as hard as possible.

Her eyes beheld each face. The first, she did not recognize - the second.... "Gerald?"

They all paused for a moment as the sounds of wood splintering and iron whining could be heard from the front of the rather large house.

"You're going to regret all of this. You're both idiots and selfish fu-" the Luna was caught off guard as Lobos brought his fist back and laid it right into her temple. The blow made her disoriented, but her instincts kept her fighting even as her vision wavered, and her thoughts stopped connecting.

She shook her head vigorously in a poor attempt to shake herself straight, but it only made things worse. It had been so dizzying that Myranda hadn't even noticed she was being dragged backwards on the rough, cold floor - nor had she recognized the fact that the lights were being doused out, and not her eyesight leaving her.

The grasp Lobos had on her hair was more like a thousand hot needles being poked into her scalp as his large hands were unkind to her silky strands of black and white.

"Let go of me!" Myranda demanded with pain howling in her words.

All that was returned was a cold, desolate laugh of cruelty followed by a vicious throw onto an unmade, un-pillowed flat rock top bed. The ones she was so used to - and hated even more now as her skin skid against the surface and burned it open until it wept blood.

Just as she was wiggling to a better position of defense, she could hear the door to the bedroom slam, and watched as Lobos rummaged through a messy dresser drawer after he barricaded the door with some sort of heavy side-table that looked fancy.

"I wouldn't do anything else stupid if I were you - if you think my mate isn't angry already, what you plan to do to me will enrage him beyond sense," Myranda promised and glared at her assailant with venom in her expression.

"I don't care what you think. You're nothing but lowly tunnel trash that forgot their place. You've ruined an entire society - are you happy about that?" Lobos asked sadistically.

"It was only ruined for those who benefited from it. You're a selfish bastard, and your time is over now - and whatever was left is going to be pure agony." Myranda shot back.

"That may be - but I'm about to make it worth my while...." he hinted wickedly as he pulled something out of the drawer that had been buried beneath piles of clothes.

Upon further inspection - it was a leash and collar, and the fear in her face must have been very stark, for Lobos grinned at her reaction and advanced forward. "Do you know what this is?"

"No." She answered curtly.

"This is an old world item the humans used to use on our kind. They're supposed to be illegal - and supposedly all gone, but a few of us kept them as mementos, and for personal fun. They're called obedient ropes. I'm sure even tunnel trash like you can guess what that means."

Myranda didn't dignify his words with a response. If humans made something - it was most likely bad.

The sounds of growls, snarls, and things being broken were heard muffled through the door - but loud enough to turn Lobos' attention on his prey that he stalked towards menacingly.

Even with her hands and wrists bound, this determined female was not about to be an easily caught prize. She had a toddler niece - and knew exactly how to stop someone from putting anything on them -- pure, chaotic thrashing.

She didn't even thing - she just let her body flop and wriggle underneath Lobos' weight as he tried to pin her down and place the black leather collar over her neck.

It was like slow motion as he overpowered her and slipped the loop around her neck. In her last act of free will, she brought her head up to slam against his. Lobos staggered backwards, but still had a firm grasp on the leash in his hands - and so it tightened the magical noose around his captor, and caused all of her movements to cease.

When Metas could be heard outside of the door, Lobos didn't hesitate. Even if he was going to be punished - he wanted to at least soil the female who had caused all of this nonsense. Even if Metas loved her, most mates would snub the other should they be marked by another - and as the Alpha, Lobos was betting it would cause a huge rift in their relationship.

If he could make the realm unstable, he could hope for everything to fall, and for the right citizens to go back to their rightful places.

It was over anyway. May as well get something out of it.

He got closer to her and didn't say a word - but her body moved against her will regardless into a submissive stance.

She could feel the heat of his body press against her behind - and his cruel hands grasp her hips hungrily.

She squeezed her eyes closed in hopes she could somehow fight against the hold this abomination had on her, but it was useless. Much like her body had betrayed her, so did her eyes as tears trickled with the fear and despair that sank in once she realized he had gotten what he wanted.

She had never felt so violated before....and something changed inside Myranda from that moment forward which cause the hidden, fierce beast inside of her to no longer be hidden behind doubt.

No, from now on - she was going to be a ruthless leader when she needed to be, and fight harder against those who spoke against her.

Myranda would make sure she would never feel this powerless again.

This thought, and the sounds of the door slowly being broken helped her disassociate from the moment and pretend that she was somewhere - anywhere else.
