Chapter 25

I figured I'd make something that reminded me of my...blurred childhood, I don't remember much from it but it's strange that this environment and feeling makes me recall some things.

I walked over to the freezer before pulling out the pound of meat that we got earlier, before putting it onto a wooden cutting board that was leaning against the inner side of the cabinets.

I started to cut the meat into slices when I heard footsteps approaching me from behind, they belonged to Shinso.

"What'cha making?"

He asked, leaning over my shoulder while planting a small kiss on my cheek.

"Well, I don't exactly know, but something tells me it'll be good."

I smiled at him softly as I placed the sliced meat into the pan, it sizzled softly, filling the room with a warm atmosphere.

I then walked over to the freezer again and pulled out the eggs, putting them on the counter to let them cool.

"Do you have any spices?"

I asked Oboro, padding a wooden spoon against the sizzling meat. Oboro nodded and pointed to a cabinet over the eggs. I nodded at him as I pulled out a few unlabeled bottles, but I could clearly discern between pepper and salt, just because of their basic colors.

Eventually the eggs were now cool to the touch as I cracked them over the pan with the meat inside and ruffled them up with the wooden spoon until they turned golden brown, fluffy and tender.

I then flipped over the meat and pressed it against the metal surface of the pan, and the sizzling grew louder. As I did this I grabbed the pepper and sprinkled it over the eggs, mixing it into them until the smells mixed together.

"It's my first time making these, but I hope these come out right."

I looked back at Shinso and briefly smiled at him before turning back towards the meal I was almost done preparing. After about 5 minutes the eggs and meat were done.

I grabbed a few plates from the cabinets which were washed this morning by Oboro, as I watched him doing so before he left work at 7 AM.

"Well, I hope you guys enjoy."

I turned to Oboro and approached him, holding a plate of meat and eggs in hand before putting it down in front of him.

"It's like a brunch type meal."

Oboro's face was instantly filled with confusion.

"Brunch?"

I instantly felt awkward, Oboro hasn't heard of brunch because it hasn't been invented yet so I had to explain it to him.

"Breakfast and lunch together."

I told him, Oboro's face lit up.

"Wow, that's quite creative."

He lifted his fork before biting into the beef, and his face lit up. He instantly started to gobble it up, shoveling the food into his mouth at lightning speed, scraping his plate until no food was left, even the spices.

He then pushed the plate away from him and leaned back in his chair, letting out a little burp as he wiped his mouth with a napkin sitting in the middle of the table.

"Damn, that was good."

Shinso then stepped up and sat down, looking at me with a little drool running down his mouth, like he was silently begging for the food, so I went over to the stove and made Shinso his own dish and brought it back to him.

He was similar to Oboro, eating all the food until only the scraping of his fork against the plate was heard.

"You really are a good cook, I didn't know you could prepare such a good meal."

Shinso gave me a small smile, wiping his mouth with another napkin. Aizawa lay motionless on the sofa, still sleeping, so we did not bother him in the meantime.

"Damn, I'm tired already."

Oboro tiredly exclaimed with a yawn, stretching in the chair before standing up and grabbing his nightwear from the closet before going back into the hallway.

After about 2 minutes he re-emerged from the hallway and climbed into his bed even if it was only 7:00 PM, but I was used to falling asleep early, so I just played along and lied down on the floor on top of the spare cot Oboro got from the basement, but I had no intention of falling asleep, I had to drink that potion.
