The Last Demon Slayer

A loud banging sound could be heard from the trunk of an old car that was parked inside an abandoned warehouse. The inhumane rocking of the car was accompanied by a muffled scream. "Shhh... Be quiet..." One said as she slowly opened the trunk and pulled the poor lady out from it. The two suspicious characters that were wearing clown masks tied the poor lady in the middle of the floor where a big pentagram was scribbled. "MSHGGSKKSSSSH!!!!" The poor lady made a desperate attempt to scream but it was to no avail. One of her assailants had the heart to remove her gag but the first thing that she asked as soon as it was removed was, "Is this a prank??? I know it was you, Cassie. That shirt is mine." As soon as she heard her name, Cassie removed her mask. "Ana, don't panic. We will just exorcise you, okay? Calm down. After all of this is done, we could just all pretend that none of this ever happened in the first place." "What?!!!!!! You're crazy, Cassie!" "NO! Look, you tried to strangle me with a belt last night. But don't worry because I don't blame you for that. You were possessed and right now we will exorcise that demon out from your body." "No-----mmmpphhhh" Before the lady named Ana could even speak another word of protest, Cassie already gagged her again with that same piece of cloth that they used before. "So what are we gonna do next?" "You have to pee on her?" "No way! I would never pee on my best friend! Jared, that's insane!" "Then let us just all forget about this whole exorcism thing then because it was clearly written here. Instruction No.1. You have to mark the subject with your own scent." Please don't get me misunderstood

But at the same time, more than anyone else, I am most aware that it was not yet the right time for me to dwell on these things. So to keep my mind off of the things that I could not yet process at the moment, I forced myself to focus my attention instead on what was in the present, and to start with that, I decided to accost Cassie who apparently left her mouth wide open.

"You can close your mouth now. Otherwise, I can't guarantee you that a fly would not end up inside it. This place is not insect free."

Cassie immediately closed her mouth as soon as I pointed that out. I saw her feeling awkward as she drew her lips into a line.

From the current looks of it, it seemed that she was so stunned upon the sight of a blessed land to the point, that she could not help but drop her jaw. She almost looked like a fish that had fallen offshore when she did it.

Likewise, judging from this reaction of hers alone, I was able to infer that this was her first time coming across a Fae teritory.

In actuality, my kind already littered the streets nowadays. In fact, there was a high chance that once in your life, you already probably seen one in real flesh but it was just that you have not realize it yet.

Why don't you take this time as an opportunity to recall your recent encounters? Have you ever felt your mood was uplifted for no reason?

Since a sudden boost of energy without apparent reason was one of a few signs you could look out for whenever there was a suspected Fae trying to blend within the vicinity.

Anyway!

As I am saying, regardless of wherever part of this planet you were currently residing at, a guild of Faes fighting demons could be surely found in your area. That was what I could assure you and I am certain about this for a reason.

A little pass over a century ago, the congregation of the Faes introduced the concept of guilds and explained why it was more efficient if we should form a group with our closest confidants and assigned each of these said groups to different locations.

They convinced us to travel across continents and encourage us to keep switching our hideouts whenever possible.

This was to make sure that this realm would stay protected in general, along with its vulnerable natural inhibator.

After all, it was no secret that mortals were susceptible to falling for the tricks set by demons.

In fact, some of them were even known for initiating contact with the creature of the lower realm to sell their souls in exchange for a wish.

On the contrary, it was the Faes' duty to prevent these demons from manifesting themselves to their human host as earliest as possible.

The fact that residents of the lower realm were allowed to visit the mortal world whenever they see fit was already a matter worthy of concern.

It was for this reason why we seek to fend off any possibility of demon skins and ghouls alike from ever forming a pact.

We must put an end to any means of connection being made between these lowly creatures, otherwise, there would be a high risk once the situation started getting out of hand.

After all, the last thing that humanity could ever pray to befall their land was for the population of demon skins to blow out of proportion.

In retrospect, this was why I assumed that it would no longer be an exaggeration to say that you can literally find at least one Fae each at every corner of the earth.

It might have appeared like a long time had passed but since all of these explanations were only happening inside my head, in reality, it only took me a few seconds and I used that same seconds, to cross the yard all the way to my doorway.

By the time I was done giving every one of you a background, I am already standing right before the entrance and was in the middle of opening the door for Cassie, just like what was expected from a gentleman to do.

I let Cassie go in first. Then I closed the door behind me when I stepped in right after her. However, to my dismay, as soon as I got inside I realized that there was no one in the house to welcome us.

This goes without saying that for the second time within on this same day, Cassie and I were left with no choice but to make do with each other's company.

At the same time, it was then that I noticed that Cassie was looking around her.

She might be sporting a blank face at the moment, but I was almost certain that part of the reason why she was acting cautiously was that I have not yet fully won her trust.

To which, I presumed that was to be expected considering the recent turn of events. After all, if it was anyone else, I am sure they would definitely feel the same way.

But, at the same time, before she could even conjure any silly thought inside that little human brain of hers, I already tried to explain myself in a roundabout manner.

"Just bear with them, They will come back eventually."

I advised Cassie as soon as our eyes met because the last thing that I would want to happen was for a lady to think that I purposely invited her to my house while my housemates were not around.

NEVER!

NOT IN MY WILDEST DREAM!

"Thanks."

Cassie, on the other hand, said softly. Her voice sounded barely like a whisper when she talked to me after I handed her a monoblock to seat at.
