The Empoyee

"How might you please me, Miss Parker?" "How would you want me, Mr. Holden?" I should stop. It was only a tease I had mindlessly put up, hoping to get a longer moment with him, listening to whatever I had to say, but apparently, he was a persistent young man, one who would get to the end of every matter started. "I'm only scared we don't speak of the same thing here" He followed. "Oh, I very much follow, Mr Holden" "Here's the thing Miss Parker" He began, figure tearing off the chair, approaching my form. I fretted at his incoming profile, eyes averted away, not daring to meet that striking gaze of his. Even in the calming space, I could feel the burn that rushed to my chest. He had soon pulled up beside my form, eyes peering on at my warded off profile. "I'd like to see how so well you think can please me" He called. "If you manage to have me forget how troublesome the morning has been, then I assure you, the position is all yours" Eyes had snapped up to him at once, gaze beholding the sincerity in those grey eyes. "Also.....He paused for a long minute, figure inching closer.....If you manage to have me aroused........ He drew even nearer, breath so close, it fanned against my neck. "Then you, Miss Janet Parker, will be the company's new marketer to be employed" *** He is a 24 year old heir to his father's company. She is a 28 year old lady, fired from her last job for burning the CEO with hot tea. A fiery one she is, not until she meets a man, who is just intent on breaking her.

At each gaze that came my way, following my figure through, I was a minute less to venting.

They all stared on at me with eyes which you just could tell what it beheld. Some of sympathy, some blank, still, I made my way through the line of empathetic forms.

I was soon met with the profile of Adalynn coming Face-first to mine. Eyes peering on at me with such expression hard to read.

"You came" Her voice was low, eyes held strongly on my form.

"As much as you think otherwise, there are certain things I hold onto so well. One, being the job which feeds me"

Her eyes remained fixed on me, and for a second, I caught a grin tugging at her lips.

"I know better than to skip work, Adalynn. And yes, I am very much exhausted, but those files won't work themselves now, will they?"

The grin on her lips grew even wider, eyes still fixed on my profile.

"You surprise me, Janet" She let out.

"All the time" She added, and the smile which once graced her face, soon went disappearing, as she cleared her throat, head held high, and next followed the 'Adalynn' I just was used to.

"Off you go, Janet. Get to work!" She called, right before turning around, the sound of her heels clicking after her.

I shouldn't have come. I should have stayed home as ordered by the police, but I wasn't gonna let George ruin this now.

In as much as I was exhausted, something said to go on. Perhaps it was the fact that being out here, would evade those killing thoughts that wouldn't stop until I was completely drained.

I was almost murdered.

Not just by anyone, but by a man whom I'd give my all.

"Jane"

That voice brushed past my ears, causing my chest rushing with every heat that followed through.

I found my breath hitched in throat, with legs soon gaining its own control, as I turned around, coming to behold that profile.

His eyes remained warm, scrutiny held strongly on me, and only then did the words of Officer Thawne come hurrying back.

"We received a call from Kristoffer Holden"

"A call from who?" My voice was low, eyes peering on at him, while his words poured once more into my ears.

"We received a call at the station from Kristoffer Holden"

His eyes bore less shock than mine did.

"But I rang a call to the help line myself" I followed.

"We arrived here 10:31. The agent you spoke to stated your call came in at around 10:29.

At the time of your call, we were already on our way, Miss Parker"

"And in as much as the country boasts of helping her citizens the best way possible, it's improbable we arrive at your doorstep in a minute, fifty-nine seconds of you ringing the helpline" He followed.

"Now do me a favor, and let's head over to the station"

"The statement of the victim is required"

Tara had found my cell laid on the ground in the living room, and while the figure of George was to mine, his words blasting into the area, had she sent a text to him, requesting for help.

I peered back at the profile before me, those warm eyes shifting through mine.

The heat came rushing to my chest, our eyes held in each other's, and in a second, he had closed the gap between us, pulling me into his embrace.

I swear my feet had turned numb, hands trying to find their use, while my form remained in his hold. I couldn't tell if I was to concern myself with the scrutinies that lingered on our forms, or the sound of his breaths pouring into my ears.

"I'm sorry"

Those breaths were soft, hands gently pulling me nearer, and in a second, he had pulled back, eyes resting in mine.

"Don't be" I gave a low chuckle, hands reaching to wipe the tear that had stained my cheek.

"Relationships are always against me" I followed. Amidst my low laughs, the tears came streaming down.

Lips holding onto a wide grin, eyes got clouded with tears.

"They never work out for me" I chuckled.

"If it's not something else, then it is my ex-boyfriend trying to end my life"

"I'm fine by the way, Mr. Holden"

He only remained silent, attention entirely on me, eyes watching my little display.

"Jane" His voice was low.

"You know it's okay to be sad"

"But you don't know what it's like to be sad" I had called at once.

I still couldn't figure out what or whom exactly my anger was to be directed at, but I could tell it built up inside of me, and it was only a matter before it all came pouring out.

"Everyone gets sad, Jane" Those words earned a scoff from me, my hands reaching to wipe the tears that dropped from my eyes.

"Of course, everyone gets sad"

"But you wouldn't understand such sadness from a person like me" My gaze met his.

He had fallen silent at my utterance, eyes shifting through mine, as if searching for something in there. And in a breath, he followed—"Make me understand"

Those words were low, with figure inching closer, while that gaze wouldn't let go of mine.

At once, my form had retreated, taking a couple steps away from him.

"I should get to work, Mr Holden"

And without sparing the young man before me a glance, I had turned on my feet, walking away.
