Among the first-year magicians, Bryce was quickly considered the strongest battle magician. The other magicians kept their distance from him. During combat exercises, they feared to be partnered with him. Despite being amicable enough in class, he was vicious and unrelenting in the battlefield. This earned him the moniker, "the War Demon."

In a month's time, he has already reached proficient level in all of his battle classes with his other classes not far behind. His body seemed to have evolved: developing muscles and growing taller. This was natural for battle magicians who continually pour mana to enforce their cells to grow and mutate into the most optimum build for their fighting style, armor type, and weapon preferences.

Since Bryce is so much better at combat than his fellow classmates, he spars with the magus assistants for his classes. They are usually magicians who are taking the master level course of the class. He used to get beat up all the time, but now he can avoid the punches and attacks. Bryce can feel himself get stronger and react quicker. He no longer runs out of mana and is able to predict his opponents' moves. Even some of his magi would find an excuse to spar with him from time to time.

Bryce's continued combat practice with Vane has been instrumental in the former's growth. Even as a mere second-year, Vane is touted as the strongest Earth magician and among the best fighters in the academy. Bryce only wished that the academy had a Darkness element magus so that he can gain mastery of his element but otherwise he was quite happy.

What Terrick lacked in natural talent, he makes up for in sheer grit. He grew up with a big brother like Bryce who was always the physical prodigy, with big sister like Althea who was always good at whatever she did and could now control 5 elements, and Ellie who was always so prodigious at Water magic that everyone in Kauven knew her name. The education and training in this academy could give him a chance to even the playing field but it required pushing himself more than ever. His objective is to Perfect Fire magic and catch up to the rest of them.

After many weeks of failure, Terrick has finally acquired Explosion magic. It was variant magic that allowed for the spontaneous combustion at any distance. This was different from normal Fire magic which required being ignited near or on the caster and continuously controlled until the spell action is completed. His hard work is recompensed when his Perfecting Fire magus recognized his flame as being especially pure and of higher quality. It allows his spells to be casted with higher mana efficiency and to greater effect. This gained him a reputation of being special among the first-year Fire magicians. To his annoyance, this led to a group of Fire magicians who seem to always be following him around school.`

His daily practice playing his ocarina has finally yielded fruit. Terrick has now successfully casted his first music spell, which was a messenger spell that allowed him to communicate with anyone within a certain range. This achievement made the Music magic magus brim with joy. It had been ten long years since the Magic and Music class had successfully produced a Music magician.

So many gifted students have abandoned the class having failed to cast a single spell let alone master Music magic. The heavily mustached magus was teary-eyed as Terrick casted his Music spell in front of the class. The magus pins a musical note on Terrick's lapel. It was a symbol of being a Music Magician. The other magicians were both awe-struck and jealous.

Terrick would have been the most popular first year with this one accomplishment alone, except someone had beaten him to the punch. The first one was, of course, Lest who learned and mastered Music magic last semester. It was then that she earned her nickname, "La Prima Aria" or "the First Song." Terrick didn't care much for the record. He was plenty thankful to her who was instrumental in helping him understand and attain Music magic.

He was perfectly content being the second Music magician in the kingdom in the last ten years. He still had a long way to fully master Music magic. With Lest at his side, he knew this goal was within reach. He was even more motivated now that he knows he has what it takes. His burning desire fueling him as he sets his eyes on acquiring Blue Fire and Lightning magic. Between his strong Fire magic, rare Music magic, jock-like physique, and good looks; the student body has dubbed him, the Grand Magical Academy's "Fouco Vivace" or the "Lively Fire."
