What it takes to be Perfect

Two weeks had passed since the tournament.

Althea and Ellie had just left their Healing class where they spent most of it helping classmates learn Healing spells. They were learning and mastering spells so fast that they have established themselves as the top magicians in that class. Their classmates look in awe as the two break down the concepts required for each spell.

The magus was so happy to have such prodigious healers that she has given Ellie and Althea even more complex material to read and practice. At this rate, they will both complete novice level in no time at all. It also helped that Rhald, who was taking the master level course of this class, was giving them pointers. The three would spend many hours discussing the finer points of Healing and Water magic that may not be covered in class.

Ellie was so interested in Healing that she has decided to add Magical Physiology, Magical Botany, Magical Biology, Mana Sensing, Mana Manipulation, Magical Ecology, and Magical Research to the list of her future classes. These were the requisite classes to become a Healing Doctor.

Meanwhile, Althea has vastly improved her control of her other elements just by listening to her friends talk about their classes. She also offers her time helping them master their spells which gives her an opportunity to learn them as well. In the short time, she has almost tripled her spell list.

The twins, Vane and Lest, were waiting in the school promenade to meet up with Rhald, Ellie, and Althea after class. The five stop by to get some takoyaki before heading towards the house by the entrance of the Great Magical Academy.

As it turns out, the twins were also taking three classes with them: Spell Creation, Strategy and Battle Formation Magic, and Espionage. By the time they reached the house, Terrick was already there since his classes ends the earliest. Vane and Bryce spend most of their time in the practice room doing mock battles. Those two enjoy letting their fists do all the talking.

Recently, Lest spends most of her time helping Terrick with his Music magic. Music magic, like Healing, is a type of magic that isn't bound to any one particular element. This means that anyone who has the gift for such magic can develop it. Though, developing Music magic is considered rare and most magicians who take the Music and Magic class end up not developing this ability. Lest, who has already mastered it, can tell that Terrick has the potential to develop such magic. She is also convinced that Terrick may be able to cast his first ocarina spell sometime soon.

The Grand Magical Academy has really opened up their perspective on magic. They never realized the pivotal role it plays in their everyday lives or how many types of magic there were. In a few short weeks, they have seen far beyond basic elemental magic. They have witnessed magi and fellow magicians use rare variant elements such as (Music, Lightning, Rock, and Blue Fire magic). This motivated them harder to Perfect their magic.

In Perfecting magic class, they were taught that it was possible to attain new variant magic. This was recently discovered through Magical Research. The theory is explained like so. There are 6 main elemental magics: Light, Fire, Water, Wind, Earth, and Darkness. Each element has its unique subcategories of related variant magics. This is why the Perfecting magic classes are separated by element. Each class is therefore designed to hone and expand one's mastery over their main element to gain control of these branch family variants. The term "Perfect elemental magic" refers to controlling all the known variants of your main element.

This means that Rhald who was blessed with Perfect Water magic also have the Ice, Mist, Acid, Illusion, and Life variants. Achieving perfect magic is actually very hard to do as each variant has its own particular litany of requirements. Not everyone can Perfect their elements.

Perfect element magic is only achieved by a combination of potential and hard work. In fact, most people who take the Perfecting element magic classes learn only one or two variants, at most, and even if you somehow learn a new variant, you only unlock its basic form.

You still need to hone and practice to strengthen the variant so it can be usable in every day or battle. This came as great news to the new magicians who were looking into methods of growing stronger. Ellie who already had the Ice variant was a great candidate for potentially perfecting Water Element. Rhald spent more time with her to help her learn the other variants of Water magic. Althea also joined these tutorials and gained much understanding from the two gifted Water magicians.

Meanwhile, Terrick's Perfecting Fire element magus has recommended that he pursue Explosion magic because he already has an Explosion spell. Since there wasn't a Perfecting Darkness magic class, Bryce immersed himself in the battle related classes where he quickly developed a reputation for being the best in all of the first-year magicians. Althea would have given him a run for his money except that she was too busy mastering the variants for all 5 of her elements and Healing. She didn't devote as much time in battle practice as Bryce did.
