ELIJAH'S POV

I was deep in thought, staring at the piles of paperwork that seemed to grow by the minute, when the intercom buzzed. My secretary's voice came through the line, breaking my concentration.

"Mr. Rossi, there's someone here to see you," she said.

I frowned. I wasn't expecting anyone. "Send them away," I replied curtly.

"But, sir," she hesitated, "she says to tell you it's Deborah."

I paused, the irritation shifting to a different kind of tension. "Fine, let her in," I said, my voice steady despite the sickening feeling that suddenly punched into my guts.

I had called Deborah several times last night after the scene that Imogen made. But she had ignored me and the one time she did pick, she made no attempt to break the ice that Imogen had tried her best to form between us.
