The Davidson Family Secret (1)

Auralia felt her body go into overdrive, countless thoughts racing through her mind as she heard the man speak. She felt a tornado of emotions well up as she tried to figure out what was going on. It wasn't possible, was it?

Could this man before her know her father somehow or was he just a doppelganger, Fate playing a cruel game on her.

"Jason darling, how are you doing?" Mrs. Davidson said, snapping Auralia out of her raging spiral.

"I'm fine mother. We just got back from the business trip to find something unexpected had happened." He turned to look at Auralia. "You mind explaining mother?"

Mrs. Davidson smiled tightly. "Of course. This is Auralia, my granddaughter."

"Mother…" Jason sighed, rubbing a hand across his face.

"Auralia, could you excuse us for a second. I need to speak to your uncle." Mrs. Davidson said, putting an emphasis on the word "uncle".

"Ye-" Auralia started but Jason interrupted her.

"No. I know exactly what's going on here and the three of us will be having this discussion together." Jason said glaring at his mother. "She has a right to know."

The last comment sparked something inside Auralia and she knew immediately that something was up. Mrs. Davidson was hiding something big from her, something she had every right to know.

Mrs. Davidson sighed in defeat. "Alright, we can talk about this. But get Marius to bring some refreshments to the drawing room. This is going to be a long conversation."

Jason nodded and turned his heel, walking away to find the butler. Auralia looked at Mrs. Davidson wanting her to say something, anything to clear the dread filling her but the older woman remained silent.

And that scared Auralia even more.

What could have been hiding from her that Mrs. Davidson wouldn't talk or even look her in the eye. Was it as bad as her son was making it out to be? Thoughts once again began hounding Auralia, making her feel nauseate.

Soon the two were sitting on opposite sides in the drawing room, Jason appearing with a tray of refreshments a few minutes later. The air in the room was tension, almost choking Auralia with worry as to what was coming.

Placing the tray on the coffee table, Jason took a seat next to his mother. "So mother, would you like to start?"

"Yes…" Mrs. Davidson sighed and finally gazed at Auralia with a bittersweet look on her face. "Do you remember what I told you about my late husband having a mistress."

Auralia nodded her head, the words stuck in her throat. She didn't know where this was going to go and she almost didn't want to.

"Well, my youngest son was in college around this time. He was dating a girl and she fell pregnant. So, like any responsible man would do he asked for her hand in marriage, wanting to make an honest woman out of her." Mrs. Davidson paused a second. "The problem was my husband needed to hide the fact he had gotten his mistress pregnant and with Jason married…"

"He wanted your younger son to marry his mistress…" Auralia murmured in understanding. "But he was going to marry another woman."

"Yes… A fight broke out between us, me taking my husband's side. I pushed for my son to marry the girl his father had arranged for him, thinking it was for his own good." Mrs. Davidson turned away and laughed bitterly. "But my son refused and cut off ties with us. He decided to marry the girl he was dating and to build a life with her without us in it.

"About two years after he left, a woman appeared with a baby in her hands and another on the way. She began demanding that my husband take responsibility for his children." Mrs. Davidson got up from her seat.

She walked over to a small cupboard in the corner of the room and took out a key. Unlocking a drawer, she pulled out a small, cardboard box.

"It was my husband's mistress and instead of getting my husband to answer her. I did. At first, I thought she was just trying to get money out of my husband but the DNA tests were done…" Mrs. Davidson stopped once again, sitting back down.

However, Auralia didn't need for her to try her the rest. She already knew the outcome. Mrs. Davidson found out about her husband's adultery.

"When I found out the truth about everything, I rushed to find my younger son. But it was too late by then…" She placed the box on the table, sliding it over to Auralia. "He wanted nothing to do with me or the Davidson family…"

Jason pulled his mother into a side hug, trying to comfort her as painful memories flooded her. The older woman cried in his arms, grief clearly showing.

Slowly, Auralia took the box on the table and opened it. She knew what was happening was a painful moment for Mrs. Davidson but she didn't see how it led to her. What the past had to do with her. She hadn't known them, probably only being a baby around that time.

Her answer came however when she looked into the box. Horror stuck her as she looked at its contents. It was filled with documents, letters and photos. A very familiar photo lay on the top. The same photo she had in her office at the dojo.

A photo of her and her father.

"Wh…What's the meaning of this?!" Auralia cried out as she stood up, dropping the box and letting everything scatter everywhere.

She looked across the room, photos of her parents and her lying everywhere on the floor. Most of the photos she could recognize, having them in a photo album. Others however looked unfamiliar, most with her father and members of the Davidson Family.

Jason looked up at her with a grim look. "What my mother is trying to tell you is that your father, Issac Davidson, was her younger son. And that you're her real granddaughter."
