Chapter 28: Lunch

Luke left to get changed at his place because he hadn’t brought anything with him. On his way out he mumbled something about us moving in together. My heart fluttered with the thought, but I made no show that I heard him.

As I got ready for lunch at Marcus and Lydia’s house, I took extra care with my appearance. They were his family, I wanted every impression they had of me to be good.

I picked out a knee-length floral sundress with a halter neckline that flattered my figure and paired it with a denim jacket and short heels. I styled my hair in loose waves that cascaded down my shoulders and applied natural-looking makeup with a touch of lip gloss.

I looked at myself in the mirror and smiled, feeling confident in my choice. I grabbed my purse and made sure I had everything I needed, including a small gift for Marcus and Lydia. I stole one of Dad’s favorite wine bottles.
