Deal with the Director

Turns out I and Nathan share rooms.

After settling up everything in our room I went out saying that I needed to blow off some steam.

As I walked through the hallways I began thinking.

Why am I getting so riled up recently?

Is it because of using my beast will?

Even then it shouldn't have stayed for so long should it?

Either way I need to calm down.

"Fayden?" I heard a voice, an elderly one.

Turning back I see the Director, "Director Goodsky?"

"I told you to call me Cynthia," She says.

"Yeah somehow I think a first year being on first name basis with the director won't be taken very well, anyways what are you doing here?,"

"I was looking for you actually, there's something I need to talk about with you and your brother." She replies.

"Oh...We should go to Arthurs room then,"

And so here we are, with me and Arthur sitting on one couch and Elijah gone downstairs to bring us some tea.

I prefer coffee though.

Anyways.

"I don't sense your bond Fayden, have you kept him home?" She asked me,

"Huh, you can't sense him?"

"No, I can't" She replies.

"Weird, Zeke come out," I say.

Instantly my shadow enlargens as a dog size wolf comes out.

Weren't you taller?

Yeah but I thought you wouldn't appreciate her seeing my true height.

Smart thinking.

"Fascinating," She says.

"Yeah, I've been told he's different than other shadow wolves."

"Neither can I sense two of your elements, both of you. Are you using some sort of seal?" She asks.

"Yeah," I reply as Arthur raises his arm to show her the seal.

"I can't say I'm not disappointed, I had hoped to flaunt you two around as my quadra elemental proteges. I'm glad you've opted as a scholar mage."

We aren't objects you know.

"I planned on telling you when I got the time to visit but...I made a troublesome enemy while I was an adventurer," Arthur said.

"And I'd rather not have him suspect me, for now" He said.

She chuckled, "To call the brother of a Lance and heir to one of the most influential military houses a mere 'troublesome enemy'... I'm almost worried who your real enemies will be in the future."

(A/N : Yeaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh, about that.....you should be worried.)

So she knows huh?

Not really surprising.

"What an ominous thing to say to a pre-teen boy just starting his school life," Arthur says.

"Yeah a quadra elemental pre-teen with two deviants in lightning in ice," I quip.

"Whose side are you on?" He deadpans at me.

"My own,"

Director Goodsky chuckles at our interaction.

"Anyways speaking of school life, I did want your help in another matter," Arthur said.

"Hmmm? And what might this be?" She asked.

"We would like to take higher mana theory classes, specifically one on deviants," I say.

"That wont be too difficult, but I was under the impression that you wanted to join this academy to fit in with your peers." She asked.

"We'll take these classes on top of normal ones, its just that we've hit a ceiling on it recently," I say.

I'm so close to unlocking sound deviation.

"Very well, I'll make it happen. I'll even give you two a pass so you can observe the top upper class mages' mock battles as well,"  She said.

Narrowing my eyes in suspicion I say, "There's a catch to is right?" I ask.

"FAYDEN LEYWIN! YOU'RE BEING RUDE TO THE DIRECTOR! HOW CAN YOU MISTAKE HER KINDNESS FOR ULTERIOR MOTIVES!" Elijah chose that moment to enter.

"Shut up will ya? I know for a fact that she has ulterior motives." I say.

"I did have an ulterior motive," She confirmed.

"Oh..."

"You are aware of the Student Council yes?" she asks.

"Well if they are what one would call the shields of the school, this year I decided to make the swords,"

Where's she going with this?

We...we don't have to join the so called 'swords' right?

"I want you both to join the Disciplinary Committee,"

Called it!

"No way, I'd much rather teach myself from the library," I say.

"They aren't accessible to underclassmen, and even for upperclassmen, you need to show you're a deviant..." She says.

"Been there, done that, doesn't matter if I do it again they already know that I'm a deviant." I say.

"Yes, I've heard about the incident...you still need to be an upperclassman to get them," She replies.

"Besides, the Disciplinary Committee were chosen for their strength, so you'll have peers wo regularly spar with," She explained further.

We can always spar with each other you know.

"I'll also throw in access to a private training facility as well," She continued.

"You said the members were chosen by strength, does this mean-" Arthur began but stopped at the Director's raised arm.

"Despite house Wyke's insistence on giving a spot to Lucas, I declined, hoping that you would join," She reassured him.

"You've thought a lot about it haven't you?" Arthur asked, defeated.

"Well I am going against you two..." She trailed off.

"Fine I'll join, but the training facility better be one of the mana rich ones." Arthur gave in.

"Already done," She says as she brings out a black box from her dimension ring.

"...It's a black outfit ain't it?" I say in deadpan.

"Yes, why?" She asked.

"Yeah, I'm not joining. I'll just have Arthur help me out," I say as I got up to leave.

Like hell I'm gonna wear all black once again!

"I figured as much," She said, a smirk on her face.

"Pardon?"

"You desire to 'stay low' don't you?" She asks.

I blink, "Yeah, what about it?"

"You don't have to join the Disciplinary committee, not officially at least," She says as she hands me a ring engraved with a knife, very similar to the one on Arthurs uniform.

Understanding her intentions I speak, "So I'll be a secret member or something?"

"Yes, trickery does triumph over authority sometimes," She says.

"You've come prepared for anything. Fine, I'll join them." I sigh.

As she made her way outside, she stopped at the door, "Oh and Fayden?"

"Yeah?"

"Please make up with Student council President Tessia soon. It's not good to stay mad at your childhood friend and older sister figure."

You just had to drop that bombshell on Elijah didn't you?

"Yeah, I know. I did blow up there."

Elijah froze, before turning robotically towards me, "TESSIA ERALITH IS YOUR CHILDHOOD FRIEND!!"

"Oi watch the volume will you?"

My ears...

"Arthur, explain it to him okay?" I didn't wait for an answer as I bolted out of the room, but I still heard him shout in protest, "Hey!"
