Chapter 47. Helena

Walking slowly the slender girl arrived in front of a body of water. The other shore was an incredible distance, yet this was a mere pond. Uneven grass from short to tall gently rustled to the beat of the wind.

Her brown hair was expertly wrapped into a bun as her calm ocean eyes stared ahead. Her estoc stood long and pointed directly at a patch of grass that reached her knees.

Twisting the estoc a sound emitted as blood flew through the air. A fish with arms that made gurgled low sounds like a burp. It's dark scales matching the darkness of the water.

With one more twist the burping came to an end as blood spurt once more. The dark red eyes stilled as silence took it's seat in the vicinity.

Walking forth the sound of her knee-high boots rubbed against the ground as she continued to the dead creature.

Reaching the sight of her kill she looked at it before making a sign.

******************************************************************************************************'Hmmmm, figures'

She touched a special pattern on the estoc causing the guard to become a reel. The tip of her weapon became a hook as it popped out a bit revealing the line connecting it to what was now a rod.

Waving the rod at certain spots in the surrounding she was able to kill and capture more creatures like the one she had.

With one more wave of the line, the hook swept past all the surrounding grass causing it to be cut to mere inches. The entire 5 meter vicinity both forward and back from her location was now visible. Blood stained the grass as the various tadpoles were swept up in a pile.

Taking out a few pills and swallowing them she then took out a weighted net which covered the tadpoles.

Making a hand sign the runes on it lit up as the four ends of the weight connected. The tadpoles lifted up as the net holding them became a bag with the triangular weight held it together at the top.

Taking out a goop from her bag of holding she threw it at the net covering it in thick pink substance.

With another hand sign the net spun round and round til it became a small transparent ball. Attaching the ball to the hook she cast it into the pond standing completely still afterwards.

From seconds to minutes time dragged on until a yank vibrated the entire poll but she stayed in her exact spot. The pulling on her rod continued until her line stopped.

Taking the rod handle with both hands she twirled the line with enough strength that the short cut grass swayed heavy. She yanked, pulled, twisted and turned for about 20mins until something was dragged the to the surface.

Scrunching her brow the girl hissed under her breath as she took the thrashing creature out of the water with a yank.

A fat but lively Green Horn Shrimp tussled as it flipped around using it's tail to slam the ground.

'Cranes hold'

Helena sped around the shrimp the size of a calf. Wrapping it up in lining that caused it to be until it looked like a package.

With a wave the mouth was ripped open as the net in the form a ball was retrieved. Holding it and thinking, she took out some dead plants that caused the shrimp to thrash with greed as it's eyes shined with greed. She threw it in the shrimp's mouth.

About to step back she paused and did a back flip in the opposite direction. A sharp forked tongue coming from the pond stabbed right next to the convulsing shrimp.

Annoyance in her eyes, as she took jade pins from her bag throwing them into the pond while making hand symbols.

A shock ran across the surface of the lake as a croak erupted. A frog with thorns on it's knees and shoulders hopped out not too far from the shrimp.

'F********* frogs'

She threw the other set of pins at the frog forming hand symbols and holding onto the rod. The frog didn't even flinch as it's plus shaped pupils emitted yellow rays causing the ground she previously stood on to become stone.

Leaping around Helena kept throwing her pins as the two danced. The frog slowed to a complete stop as a it became wrapped up in a web of silky thread. The pins held the silk up as it wrapped around it reaching each point of what was now a formation.

The girl stopped and cast another net on the frog as she cut it's ligaments. Doing the same process as before she put the shrimp and the frog in nets that then became balls covered in orange and brown gooop.

Again casting her line, she'd repeated the process with three balls this time. Time's advance held no sway on her stoic face. She waited until a ripple swept the pond, like the announcement of a king.

A dark orange python smelled her bait before swallowing it. Moving in synch with the snake's movements, Helena pressed on a rune from the bottom of the hilt. A slender pole shot down into the ground as the whole fishing rod became still, only the line moved.

She held her fishing rod with determination, waiting more than an hour before the line became calm. Taking a couple more pills, she shook the rod in a certain rhythm. By the time half an hour was reached she was ready.

"Web of Contention!"

The rod glowed an ominous yellow before the fishing line that had gone through the entire body of the snake, started to pull towards her. The line had seeped through layers of tissue, muscle, and organs. The snake shook in pain before it was unceremoniously dragged from the depths to the surface.

Performing hand signs at a vigorous pace, Helena soon wrapped the snake up. This time taking a special ice blue crystal she threw it in the mouth of the snake before using her rod to cast it back in the pond. All the while the snake was shivering in pain.

Using a hand sign, Helena had the weight on the ball of bait drastically increase until the snake started to steadily descend. Her rod shook every once in a while, but otherwise it remained quiet. This time so quiet even a fool could tell that something wasn't right.

Sweat on her face, Helena continued to wait. Hours passed, and soon days. Not a moment had passed where her ocean eyes weren't staring down the body of water.

The skin under her eyes becoming baggy, knees slightly weak. Yet a small ripple changed her solemn mood.

"Come on, Come on, Come on. Take it."

Putting her hands gently around her rod, she channeled all her energy in preparation. It was only a couple of minutes before the pond grew colder. Ice vaguely starting to form on top of the surface.

Getting into a deep squat. Seeing the ice she channeled all her energy into her fishing rod before she undid the pole shot into the ground.

She quickly moved back, never taking her eyes off the water. Getting far enough back, she went all out.

Taking out a stone radiating energy, she slammed it into the butt of her rod which responded by getting thicker and harder.

The reel becoming more complex with the handle becoming bigger. A pole shot deep down into the earth, the rod growing so tall it looked like a tree. Both hands on the reel, the girl started to reel in her line with everything she had.

It took her a few minutes before she felt a resistance that left her muscles squirming from the pull. One crank after another she pulled until an hour later the reel clicked.

"It's time.... I hope you're worth it."

Taking out the long jade pin that held her hair in a neat bun, she slammed it into a hole on the side of the reel. Taking out one last ice blue crystal in her hands she waited. blup, blup, blup

Bubbles slowly but surely spread across the lake. They were sporadic at first before they became so numerous that it looked like a volcano was going to erupt.
