03: Village Leader

'There's a decent sized plot of land to the East, it needs to be as close to the village as possible for when we lay out plans for defense of the village.' Quill thought to himself as he walked towards the area he had in mind for the farm.

"Soft ground, no obstructions, close to the village. Perfect for what I have in mind, now to go back to the elders and persuade them to start a farm." Quill said to no one in particular as he ran to the village hall.

"Elder Gwen, I have a way to help feed the village . . . Village chief? What is going on in here?" Quill walked into the middle of the elders and the village chief having a heated argument.

"None of your damned business!" The village chief, who was named Maher Idahoan, yelled at Quill as he began to invade his personal space.

"With the way you disrespected the elders made it my business!" Quill replied as he knocked Maher's legs out from beneath him and pinned him to the crude floor of the village hall by his throat.

"Get off me you damned bastard!" The village chief growled as he threw Quill off of him and the two fought their way outside of the village hall.

"Listen hear you fucking idiot, you forced my hand. When you get to hell tell Yama who sent you!" Quill said as he drew onto that mysterious blue mist and shot a cone of flames at the chief who had made many attempts to kill Quill, even bringing out a dagger as he attempted to gut Quill.

"Impossible!!! Ahhhhhh!!!" Maher struggled as he was burned to ashes in the middle of the village in front of all the villagers.

'Damn it, if the people of this world, no any world, get in my way or attempt to harm me again, they'll wish they got off as easy as he did!!!' Quill swore to himself as he stared at the pile of ashes that was once the village chief.

"Quill!!! What did you do? How can you use world energy? Are you a cultivator?!?!" Auryon asked as she just watched the man she grew up with torch the village leader.

"World energy? Cultivator?" Quill asked as he realized the gravity of the situation he was in.

'Damn I snapped! Am I going to be kicked out of the village? I just got here!!!' Quill thought to himself as elder Gwen pushed her way through the crowd of people.

"Enough. Quill was attacked first and it appears he awakened his natural talent and is awakened mage.

Let us forget about the matter with Maher, he started the fight and has been a tyrant for years and hid during the bandit attack that happened recently. Quill, will you lead the village and become our new chief?" Elder Gwen asked as she kept eye contact with Quill the entire time.

"Elder Gwen, I would be honored to take charge of this village. I was coming to the hall to propose a couple of ideas to improve the village. We need to make a steady source of food, just foraging and hunting isn't going to be able to supply the village with enough food, especially after the attack, most of our hunters were injured." Quill said as he spoke about one of the most pressing concerns regarding the village.

"What are we to do then?" The elders asked completely aware of the problem that the village was facing.

"We farm, right now we have no sustainable source of food to last us through winter. Even without the attack our people would still be facing dire consequences when we have no one to sustain everyone over the winter. We need to build silos to store grain to last us through these hard times. There's a plot of land to the east near a creek that can supply water that seems decent enough for farming." Quill said as he tried to butcher his words as least as he he could.

"Chief, most crops that we have tried to grow in the past have died out before they are able to produce. The ones we were able to grow only lasted a couple seasons before nothing was growable." A villager who was covered in mud from building huts for the survivors who had their homes destroyed.

"How much fertilizer was used and did you all rotate crops or left them the same?" Quill asked trying to get a grasp of the situation.

"Fertilizer?" The same villager asked as he was confused by Quills terminology.

"Fertilizer is used to help plants grow. What has everyone been doing with their waste? Human, animal remains, old vegetables and spoiled food can all be used as fertilizer to help crops grow. You can mix them all together in a heap and combine them continuously to get compost which is better than just using them as they are." Quill said as he looked at everyone who was confused and skeptical about his words.

"Come, I need five volunteers for this. Worst comes to worst and none of what I have said is true then we only end up wasting a days worth of time." Quill said as five of the villagers who were skeptical but had hope for Quills plan to work.

"We will assist chief, tell us what is needed and we will do what we can. My name is Johnathon and these are my sons." Johnathon introduced himself and his family.

"Grab some of the seeds from the village hall, we will make a small plot for now to show you all that this will work before I ask of you all to help on a plan you don't believe in. Also grab some pointed sticks, sturdy enough they won't break from being stabbed in the ground.I need someone to grab a waste bucket to use as fertilizer until we start making compost." Quill started giving orders as he headed to the plot of land.

'Damn, leading is a hassle. I feel like I keep butchering everything I'm saying and no one believes in me and they're terrified after I torched the last chief.' Quill thought to himself as he walked slowly through the village to the plot that would soon be a main source of food for the village.

'I just hope Auryon doesn't think of me any different. Everyone else in this village could hate me more than anything else as long as she is still here for me. The previous Quill did her wrong but I won't make the same mistake, as soon as I get this village on its feet I'll confess to her.' Quill debated as the villagers he handed tasks out to made their way to the plot of land he was going to farm.

"Here's everything, sir." Johnathons youngest son James said as he sat the waste bucket down.

"First things first is to prepare the ground" Quill said as he began to clear the grass away from a small hole he started with the stick the villagers brought.

"Next we need to plant the seeds." Quill said as he put one of the seeds in the hole and gently covered it.

"Now we cover with what we are going to use as fertilizer and what the fuck!!!!" Quill screamed as he witnessed the barren ground suddenly sprout a fully crop beginning to bloom.

"What kind of plants are these!!! Do all plants grow this fast!!!" Quill asked as he looked at the villagers around them who were equally shocked.

" No sir, this shouldn't have happened. Those were korn seeds and are one of the slowest crops to grow from what the previous elders have said. It's a miracle sir, with this our entire village will not have to worry about food ever again!!!" Johnathon screamed as he ran forward with tears in his eyes and hugged Quill in the tightest hug he could.

"Can you all continue planting? I'm going to get another group started on making a place to store the crops for winter." Quill said as he walked with a sling in his step back to the village.
