Ch 48 - Monkeys (3)

The monkeys came charging at me all at once the sky was darkened by their shadows as the eight monkeys flung themselves from the tree branches to tear me apart.

Their blood-red eyes glared at me dangerously as they bore their ferocious yellow teeth.

The wide-open jaws and fists that seemed ready to pummel me into paste came at me from all directions yet my focus didn't wonder but instead became stronger.

Focusing on all the mana that surrounded us I watched as they buzzed around freely, simply existing in life and bringing energy to everything.

The innocent particles that made up the very air that surrounded us were calm but that quickly changed due to the chaos I was about to cause.

The mana began to vibrate the thrash about wildly and untamed.

Shapes and colors blurred as they became unstable but then as quickly as the particles began to go wild they returned to their original nature.

However, this time in a different location.

Instead of being in the air floating about they were packed together and gathered around my body as a recognizable spell activated.

Boom!

A miniature explosion occurred as my body erupted into flames and my power increased by several folds.

'I still can't get used to this power,' I said to myself with a bright smile, unable to believe that I copied a powerful spell easily.

The monkeys that were now practically on top of me ready to tear me to pieces were astonished to see their prey burst into flames.

The monkeys closest to me were unable to change their trajectory and crashed right into my body.

But unfortunately for them, the force field held strong which stopped them from dealing any damage to me.

However, the flames that surrounded my body were outside of the force field creating a second layer of protection that formed as a counterattack.

Not only did the monkey bounce off my body but they were also terribly burned as they literally threw themselves into the flames.

Although they only had a little bit of hair and it wasn't all that long it instantly caught on fire and began to burn them alive.

Their squeals and cries of pain filled the once quiet forest yet my ears muted them as I dash off to avoid the rest of the beasts.

"Tsk," I clicked my tongue as only two monkeys were close enough to catch on fire.

Their crisp blackened bodies fell to the forest floor as their bodies were still covered in the fire.

Some of the other monkeys that came charging at me also had burned but they were somehow able to stop themselves from catching aflame.

As my fiery body leaped from tree to tree to create some distance the remaining monkeys gathered together in one spot.

I slowed down a moment later as I landed on top of a branch while my feet threatened to burn the wood.

The monkeys and I stared at each other as we attempted to grasp each other's abilities.

There were now fewer monkeys as I had killed a handful full but their overwhelming numbers still made me weary.

I no longer had the element of surprise for me to have an advantage over them.

In fact, I was now in a disadvantaged state as I was in their home, unnumbered, and slowly becoming exhausted.

Our stare-off lasted a few more seconds before the battle once again restarted.

The unsuspecting monsters had no idea how vital those couple of seconds were for me as they ended up turning the battle in my favor.

Turning my head up I jumped up higher as I climbed to the top of the tree.

The monkeys seeing my action took off after me as they also began to ascend into the treetops.

However, with their ample shaped bodies, and instinct cupped with the fact that they grew up swinging from tree to tree they quickly came at me faster than I could escape from them.

I could only climb a few branches higher before the wave of monkeys came before me yet they didn't dare to jump directly at me as the flames around my body were still violently swaying in the wind.

The monkeys watched their brothers and sisters die from the flames and they quickly learned just how dangerous they were as they made sure not to get in range of the heat that was produced.

Though that didn't stop them from giving me any room to flee.

A dozen monkeys were above, beside, and under me from all sides leaving no area free as I was forced to come to a stop.

"Child, you dare to attack us?! Your actions are unforgivable as today you will pay the price for killing," one of the monkeys shouted from above me.

"Pay the price? Oh, how wrong you are today. I will use your life force to grow stronger. So, why don't you come to me so we can get this over with?" I mocked as I added more intensity to the flames.

"Human you have no idea who you messed with even if we all die there will be no escape for you. Your grave will be in this forest!"

With that, the monkeys each broke the branch next to them and raised them before launching them like spears right at my head and chest.

'Fuck!' I tried to dodge only to come face to face with more harpoon-like weapons.

'They even accounted for my trajectory?' I couldn't help but find it surprising as the branches were aimed at the places I prepared to land.

Knowing I had no choice but to collide with some of them I quickly formed an earth shield to cover my arms as I crossed them in front of my chest.

"Pwah," I spat as I went flying into the tree behind me.

The shield pierced through as if it was nothing and the force field shook as it showed signs of shattering.

Yet before I could even catch my breath out of the corner of my eyes I saw the glimmer of more branches flying at me.

Throwing my body down I nearly escaped the projectiles that stabbed into the trunk of the tree I was previously at.

Falling without control I crashed onto a branch below me as I gathered my strength and stood up to look above only to see multiple red eyes glaring at me.

"Die human!"

A muffled voice screamed as another branch approached my head at insane speeds.
