Ch 47 - Monkeys (2)

Before moving on to the next target I sent an extremely small condensed blob of dark magic toward both parts of the monkey. That way I would be able to absorb all the benefits while spending the least bit of mana and still not alerting the rest of the beasts.

The two miniature spells hit their targets and the body parts slowly began to burn and disintegrate while I became slightly stronger in the process.

Ignoring the slow-burning parts I focused my attention on the other presences as I knew there would be no way to extinguish the darkness.

Jumping to another tree I climbed higher to get some cover in the leaves at the top of the tree.

The monsters were still all grouped and no more were adventuring away.

'It seems like they already realized something is going on,' I said to myself as the monkeys actually began to get closer to one another.

'Damn, this is not going to be easy,' bracing myself for the upcoming battle, I stealthily created two more wind blades and infused dark magic into them.

Once the two spells were complete I readied myself and jumped down from the top of the tree towards the gathering of beasts.

Unlike with the first monkey, I knew I wouldn't have the benefit of getting a guaranteed kill which meant that I had to release the spells earlier than I would have liked to.

Falling down in front of the top of the tree the monkeys found me and locked on to my attack immediately.

They scattered in multiple directions while I was forced to continue my fall downwards.

Although many were able to reposition as they swung from branch to branch there was nowhere for the one monkey I targeted to go.

I was already inches from his landing on his face and the only thing he could do was raise his fists.

At that action, I kicked out one of my legs to clash with his fist.

Right before we made contact I threw out both of the spells I prepared beforehand.

They both respectively flew in opposite directions as they cut down everything in their way.

Yet, I didn't have the time nor could I focus my attention on the destruction they caused due to the monkey in front of me.

My leg made contact with his arm and the force created by each of our attacks sent the both of us flying in different directions.

The monkey went flying backward from the branch he was on and crashed into the trunk of the tree.

I went flying to the right and into the air but unlike the monster, I didn't crash into anything as I was able to get my balance in the air and grab onto a branch to stop my momentum.

I normally would have suffered from multiple scratches from all the tiny bits of bark sticking out and the leaves but the force field that was always active protected me from all those injuries.

I was currently hanging by one hand on a branch a few meters away from the monkey I made contact with as I felt multiple presences surrounding me.

'Fuck!' I could only think as I flung myself upwards towards a different tree just in time to escape an attack.

Landing on the new branch as I was able to take a glance at the spot I left only to see it completely gone.

'Their strength is absurd,' I couldn't help but notice.

However, before I could make a plan or study just how destructive they could be I felt another attack come charging at me.

This time instead of going higher into the trees I leaped off the branch and fell backward as I dived toward a monkey that was under me.

The monkey wasn't prepared for that sort of action but it quickly adjusted itself and dodged my foot that was flying at its face at the last second.

Wanting to chase after the monkey I narrowly missed I was about to shoot off towards it but another two monkeys appeared out of the corner of my eye.

Having to dodge once again I turned towards the monkey that was attacking from the right.

It seemed that the monkeys wanted to squash me between the two of them as they attacked from both sides but instead of allowing them to do that I moved toward one of them.

The one I moved away from had to speed up to reach his partner that I was moving toward but it was too late.

With the speed that the far monkey was still moving at and with me moving in his direction, we collided within the second and I easily came out on top.

Right as we were about to clash I pushed myself upwards with a small gust of wind.

Although it didn't make much of a difference the slight inch or two that I rose messed up the angle that the monkey was traveling at.

Instead of hitting dead on I was higher and therefore I was able to throw out a kick that decapitated the monkey's head as it still charged forwards.

Without even turning around to look at the headless body that was still moving I tossed my hand outward and shot a dark bullet of magic that hit its body and quickly burnt it up into nothingness.

While the interaction between the two monkeys and I was taking place the other ones were not standing around idle.

Right after I killed the second monkey I was surrounded on all sides by seven more and the one behind me was about to arrive to make it eight.

Contrary to the monkeys' exceptions of thinking I would be doomed I had a huge smile on my face and before they could even react their fates were sealed.
