Chapter six News

On my way to work the next morning, I reflected on what my father had said. I know that Kayla and I weren't going to have a perfect marriage but as long as we loved each other I know we could make our relationship work.

Martin was getting ready for work when someone rang his doorbell. Opening it he saw that it was Kayla. "Hey what's up?" He ask with a smile which she didn't return, instead of saying anything she stormed past him and placing her hands on her hips glared at him angrily.

"Are you alright?" He asks. "Where is Susan?" She demands looking around. "She took the kids to school. So, what has T.J done now to piss you off?" He asks smugly. "I want you to back the hell off my man." She said angrily. "Excuse me?" He asks shock replacing the smug look he had earlier. "I confide in you and Susan because I thought I could trust the both of you, how could you be so stupid as to say that Tyler was the reason my child died."

"Listen I didn't know he was standing there alright." "I don't care! I expect you to shut your mouth about what I told you. If he find out that I told you anything about what happened, I could lose him, do you understand that."

"And what would be so bad about that? After what he did to you, he doesn't deserve you, Kayla." "Are you kidding me right now? Do you have any idea how much I love him? He treats me like the princess that I am, better than any man I've ever been with. It's what I want, it's what I deserve! And I won't let you ruined it for me."

"T.J was the one that ruined you, Kayla, you don't think I've noticed how much you've changed since that day, you're no longer the person I met in that club that night, something is broken inside of you and it's his fault."

"For God's sake Martin let it go, it happened a long time ago, it's over, we've moved on and I think it's time you do the same, focus more on your own life and leave mine alone; keep your mouth shut and stay the hell away from my future husband." She sneered before storming from his house.

The following day Susan was in her kitchen preparing dinner when she heard the doorbell, putting the bowl of vegetables on the counter she went to see who it was, looking through the peephole she saw that it was Kayla. Susan took a deep breath before opening the door. "Hi Kayla how are you?" "I'm fabulous, thank you, " Kayla said passing Susan with four shopping bags. "You went shopping again?" Susan asks looking at the bags. "But of course; my man knows how to keep his princess happy."

"I can see that but don't you think you could find something a little more constructive to do with your money than shopping?" Susan asks. "And could you try to sound a little less jealous?" Susan rolled her eyes as she walked past Kayla and went back into the kitchen but Kayla followed her.

"I really don't blame you for being jealous of me Susan, after all, look at me; I'm engaged to a very wealthy man." "That you wouldn't still be with if it wasn't for me," Susan adds. "Yeah, yeah, whatever, anyway he knows how to treat a woman right; he gives me enough money to do whatever I want, he bought me a B.M.W5351 the latest edition might I add and the engagement ring that I'm wearing is worth more than you'll ever see in your life, so I guess it okay for you to be jealous." She smiles leaning back in her chair.

"So is Trisha by the way, I stop by her house before coming here to show her these things, and let me tell you, she was green with envy, she even ask me if she could borrow my brand new six thousand dollars Prado hand bag, please she must be crazy." Kayla snorts in disgust.

Susan rolls her eyes again and sighs heavily. "I'm not jealous of you Kayla and please don't compare me with Trisha but I think there are a lot more important things you could be doing with your life than going shopping every chance you get, I mean how many clothes do you need?" "A lot more than I have now, that's for sure, some of us like to look good Susan."

"You could be using that money to further your education, you know cooking classes, housekeeping classes, and such since you can't do any of those things," Susan said putting a glass of milk in front of Kayla.

"That's why we have a housekeeper so that I don't have to do any of those things, besides I just had my nails done, anyway I'll further my education when I'm good and ready, right now I just want to have fun."

"Alright suit yourself, so how's the baby?" Susan asks as Kayla sips her milk. "If I have to answer that question one more time for the day I'm going to scream." Kayla sneers slamming her fist on the counter. "What do you mean? Who else was asking about the baby?" Susan asks trying to stifle a laugh.

"Tyler calls constantly and then there are his parents and grandparents and every other member of his damn family." She replied scornfully. "Oh, well I guess you already know the reason for Tyler's concern and as for his parents, it's their first grandchild, what do you expect?" Susan asks taking the chicken from the oven.

"I expect them to tell their two older sons to go get some girl pregnant so they can go harass them and leave me the hell alone." "Well, I think that they are just worried considering that things didn't go so well the last time." "You're never going to let me live that down are you?" Kayla asks angrily. "I'm only trying to say…." "I know exactly what you're trying to say." Kayla cut her off sharply.

"What I don't understand is why you and your husband feel like you need to keep saying it. Tyler and I have put all that behind us, we're stronger and closer than ever before and in a few weeks I'll be his wife and nothing is ever going to come between us again, I'm going to the bathroom," She scoffed walking away.

Susan shakes her head at her friend as she watched her. She has known Kayla since high school but it still surprises her how self-centered the girl could be. She being a Jamaican was 5 ft- 5 inches with dark skin and short processed hair, she had always considered herself to be on the chubby side and she had gotten a lot chubbier since her second child. Susan knew that she wasn't anywhere as beautiful as Kayla; who was a little taller than her, had long beautiful black hair, fair almost white skin, and a body that was very perfectly shaped.

Kayla was captivatingly beautiful that was for sure but the girl also had a very dark spirit about her that made Susan questioned herself as to why she remained friends with her for so long. Kayla came back and sat at the counter where Susan was still chopping vegetables.

"So if everything is as perfect as you say; how come Martin heard Jason telling Jessica that Tyler may be thinking about postponing the wedding?"Susan asks with a sarcastic smile. "You're lying!" Kayla shouts; practically jumping from the chair.

"When did he hear him say that?" She demanded. "Sometime last week," Susan answered casually. "Why are you just telling me this?" Kayla demand again. "Well, to be honest, I wasn't going to tell you at all, after all, he only said that he was thinking about it, he didn't actually say he was going to do it." "Looks to me like you were actually hoping he would." Kayla state coldly.

"How can you say something like that? All I've ever wanted was for you to be happy. Wasn't I the one who encouraged you to go after Tyler, so that you could stop bouncing from one deadbeat man to the next?"

"Yeah you were and I'll be forever grateful, what time is it anyway?" "Six-thirty, why?" Susan asks raising her brow "I've to go home." "Since when do you rush home?" Susan laughs. Kayla didn't answer, instead, she walked into the living room and taking up her bags walked towards the front door with Susan walking slowly behind her.

"I'll call you soon." She said in a low voice. "Are you alright?" Susan asks with a smirk on her face. "I'll be fine," Kayla replied walking towards her car. "Well I guess everything isn't as fine as you seem to think they are," Susan said to herself smiling mischievously as she went back to her cooking.
