Ch 10: Twins of House Poleria

Sigmund Empire

The Supreme Monarchs Palace

The Supreme Throne Hall

This is the place where the Empire's most important decisions are made.

The emperor rules all of Edea from here.

Dozens of elite knights lined outsides neatly.

The palace is also where the imperial family lives with their children.

Currently, it is nighttime. Nobody is in the throne room. But it is heavily guarded nonetheless.

From the outermost ring to the inside, the deeper one goes the stronger and better guarded it is inside the palace.

Inside the palace where the core members of the reigning emperor live. Today the atmosphere here is a bit different.

"What's taking it so long?" A man who seemed to be in his late forties paced back and forth outside the room. He was very good-looking. In fact, he only looked like a middle-aged man that was still in his prime. However, that handsome face of his was masked with anxiety.

"Giving birth takes time, Your Majesty" an older beautiful elf replied.

"I'm worried about my daughter-in-law," the handsome man replied. "W-What if something happens to her and the child? What should we do, Tea?"

"Nothing will happen, Lennart," Tea glared at her husband in annoyance. "Get a grip, will you? Just look at Victor. See? He's pretty calm. As an emperor how can you display such behavior in front of your subordinate." Tea said as she pointed at the Captain of Sternenritter, Victor Vom Walganus, The Talented Knight.

"Ah! Him? Ignore that brat. He just gets on my nerve for some reason. Haah! They are both brothers but between Georg and Victor, I always prefer Georg. That's why I gave him the position of The Protector of the Throne despite Victor being the most talented knight of the empire at a such young age." Emperor Lennart said scornfully as he looked at Victor in utter disdain.

Victor kept his eyes closed as if he didn't hear anything and stood in his place like an immovable rock.

Inside the delivery room…

"My lady, I can see the baby's head," the midwife said with excitement. "Just a little bit more. Just one more push."

The beautiful lady lying on the bed, gave a guttural grunt as she obeyed the midwife's pleading. Her long black hair stuck to her skin, and her emerald green eyes were tinged with fatigue. She had been in labor for more than three hours and was already feeling very weak.

Only her unwavering determination to see her child kept her sanity from losing control.

After much hardship, the baby was finally born to the world. But the Midwife became shocked when the baby came out.

The reason is there are two babies. The crown princess gave birth to twins.

The midwife held the newborn babies in each of her hands. She checked their gender and was about to congratulate her Lady for giving birth to a boy and a girl when she noticed that something was amiss.

After giving it much thought, the midwife realized that the babies didn't cry when they were born. A frown appeared on her face as she used magic to clean up the baby's bodies. She paid close attention to the baby's breathing and its heartbeat.

For a brief moment, the midwife thought that both of the babies had immediately died after it was born. She had seen such cases before and it made her very anxious.

Fortunately, she noticed the newborn's chest rise which was a clear indication that they had started breathing. However, the baby's breathing was very slow and labored.

"What's wrong?" the beautiful lady who had just given birth asked. "Did something happen to my baby?" She was worried that something might be wrong.

Her question brought the midwife out of her daze. She hastily presented the babies to their mother and congratulated her.

"Not baby, My Lady. Babies. You gave birth to twins."

The beautiful lady ignored the midwife and held her newborn daughter and son close to her bosom. All the exhaustion she had felt during her labor was washed away by the happiness she was feeling at that moment.

The midwife came out to deliver the good news outside.

The two parents who were waiting outside the room glanced at each other. The empress cried and buried her head in her husband's embrace.

Although she persist in telling her husband that everything was going to be fine, she herself was feeling restless.

The cool-headed man who was leaning on the wall finally opened his eyes. He breathed a sigh of relief as he looked at the ceiling of the room. His gray eyes were tinged with happiness and sorrow.

Happiness because his brother-in-law's child had been born. Sorrow, because the child would never get to see his father in this lifetime.

.....

Suddenly, the door sprang open and the two of the noblest people in the empire entered the room.

Lennart immediately checked his daughter-in-law's condition. His heart ached when he saw the exhaustion on his daughter-in-law's face. However, he could also sense happiness and pride inside her beautiful exterior.

Tea went to her daughter-in-law's side and kissed her cheeks. "Congratulations, Adria."

"Thank you, Mother," Adria replied with a faint smile. She showed them her newborns.

"What is his name?" Tea asked as she tickled the baby's round face.

"From now on, his name will be Cael Poleria" Adria answered feeling satisfied with the name she chose.

"Cael, nice name. My House Poleria and The Sigmund Empire will gain another heir. But hey don't ignore my beautiful granddaughter. Give her a name too." The Emperor said as he cradled the baby girl in his arms. He is really a doting grandfather.

"Her name will be given by her father. That's what her father and I decided together." Adria replied melancholy.

"Aii, Of all times the Gordocx began to invade us at this time. So infuriating!" The Emperor grumbled in rage." Don't worry, Adria. I have sent Georg after him. They will return safe and sound with victory." Lennart consoled Adria. Lennart had full confidence in the expected outcome of the battle.

"Yes, father. "

"Why is this child so quiet?" Lennart asked as he noticed the anomaly. "Are human babies always that quiet?"

"I don't know father. They have been quiet like this the entire time."

"Kevin, bring me the fimorin stone and call the high priest." Lennart ordered loudly.

"Order received, Your Majesty" came a sound from the outside of the door.
