A few days later, I called Jake and accepted the position as Activities Coordinator. He was ecstatic. He also told me that he and Harvey had had a long talk, per my suggestion, and they were proceeding cautiously forward.
I gave my notice at Throwbacks, and Pearce wished me well, though he was sorry to see me go. He assured me I would always have a job there if I wanted one, and asked if I’d be willing to fill in from time to time, if needed. I said I’d be happy to.
Sandy cried on my last day, but she was happy for me, too. “I’d better see you here in the evenings sometimes. I’ll miss my favorite gossip queen.”
“You can gossip with Dawson. I’m sure he won’t mind.” I winked at the man in question, who was leaning on the bar next to me.
“I’ll do my best to carry the torch,” he said, grinning at us.
