Chapter 50 -- Invite

"How cool was that!!" Chris shouted with stars in his eyes.

"I have to say it was quite breathtaking" Zane chuckled.

"The Juggernaut might have won in the end but the Fire Prince did give him a run for his money" Chris said "I wish to be like him one day".

"Who the Juggernaut?" Zane asked.

"No Fire Prince, I have the fire affinity remember?" Chris corrected.

"Ohh yeah I had forgotten" Zane said. He hadn't forgotten, he simply doesn't remember being told.

"What was your favorite part of the fight?" Chris asked. The duo was walking to their favorite restaurant for breakfast.

"I really liked how the Juggernaut infused some of his mana into his muscles to make them stronger" Zane answered.

"Wait he does that?. So that's why his body is so strong!" Chris exclaimed in realization, he didn't even need to ask how Zane knew that information.

The two then walked the rest of the way talking about the fight. Chris admitted to this not being his first time at the arena, but this time the two fighters seemed more interesting and 'cool'.

A few minutes later, the duo arrived at the restaurant and proceeded to sit down. Before they could even order, someone pulled a chair and put it next to their two person table.

Chris was about to complain when Zane raised his hand to stop him. Chris immediately realized that the only reason Zane might stop him was if this person was a mage.

Zane knew that a mage couldn't attack them inside the city, however it was best to not be on the bad books of one either way. Letting Chris talk was a one way ticket to anyone's bad books.

"Zane, my teacher would like to meet you" The man said without even introducing himself. Zane was really surprised at this man's words.

"Who are you ?, how do you know my name ?, Who is your teacher ?, What does your teacher want ?." Zane asked his questions in rapid fire.

The surprise of this stranger knowing his name made him forget that he wanted to be polite.

"You don't need to know. I have my ways. You will find out soon enough. To make you an offer you can't refuse." The mage answered all of Zane's questions respectively.

Zane narrowed his eyes "What makes you and your teacher think that I won't refuse this offer of yours?" he asked.

Zane had wanted to ask for clarification on their identities, but the mention of an offer he couldn't refuse took his attention.

"Because everyone wants to become stronger Zane. I know you are blind so I will give Chris this paper, it has the address if the place where you will meet teacher." The man gave Chris a piece of paper.

"Ohh yeah, don't tell anyone else about this" he said before leaving, not giving Zane a chance to say anything else.

"Ohh I know this place, it's quite close by" Chris said as he read the address on the piece of paper.

"I thought I would find you here!" someone said as he took a seat of that strange mage's chair.

"Hey Adam what's up?" Zane and Chris said at the same time.

"Clara and I were looking for you. The next mission is tomorrow" Adam said.

"Already?, I thought there would at least be a three day break" Zane said.

He was surprised at how soon their next job was, but he was still pleased, the more jobs the more money, the more money the more mana cores, and the more mana cores, the sooner he is to becoming a mage.

"Yeah this one is urgent" Adam said.

"Urgent?, do you know anything about it?" Chris asked.

"Nope only that we will be fighting ape like mana beasts" Adam said.

"Well have a good breakfast, I gotta look for sis and tell her to stop searching for you two" Adam stood up and left.

"Let's hope that was the last interruption, I'm hungry" Chris raised his hand and signaled for the waitress.

Zane just smiled as he thought about this mystery teacher that wanted to meet with him. Zane was almost one hundred percent sure it had something to do with one of his abilities.

Either someone found out he could see mana. That would be troublesome but Zane couldn't think of anything bad about it.

It's not like If they found out he could use pure mana in his mortal body. If that was the case, then chances were that this 'teacher' wanted to interrogate him about that ability.

Then when he refuses to answer, they might literally cut him open to experiment on his body. Then they might find out that his muscles aren't normal.

What if they found out that he gains mana by killing?. But that's impossible, the only people who know about his peculiar way of gaining mana were his parents.

He still remembered the talk he had with his father that he should keep all his abilities a secret at all costs.

Zane also thought about the massacre he did at the alley that day. However killing mortals wasn't a crime, everyone knew that. Guards even found him and brushed it off like it was nothing.

However, Zane remembered that the bandit leader escaped that day, what if he is related to this teacher or he paid this teacher to deal with him?.

The bandit leader was the most plausible cause for Zane's summoning. He is literally the only person in Willow who might want to hurt Zane.

"Mmmm I swear their food gets better every day!" Chris exclaimed.

Zane still remembers that the bandit leader was confident enough to try robbing Zane without knowing his name. This meant that he was confident enough to get away with killing a noble.

'It's definitely that bandit leader' Zane thought.

However if this teacher really is connected to that bandit leader, why did they invite Zane instead of forcefully capturing him?.

They could have avoided force because of fear the guards might get involved, but then again Zane remembered what that mage had said.

He spoke of making Zane stronger, but Zane brushed off that comment. The mage might have just been trying to coerce Zane into walking into his own deathbed.

Zane took a bite of his food as he thought more about this issue. He was leaning more towards not going but still wasn't sure, there was a chance that the mage spoke the truth. What if they could make him stronger?.

Zane needed a second opinion from a trustworthy and reliable source.

"Chris, what do you think about this so called teacher who called me?"

Chris put up his index finger as he finished chewing the lump of bread in his mouth.

Half a minute later….

"You are definitely not going" Chris said as he gulped his tea. Zane was beginning to think that Chris loves food.

"Why?" Zane asked curiously.

"It's too risky, you have too many secrets and if that teacher finds out one of them he might find the others as well. Then if you are captured or killed I will have no chance of becoming a mage" Chris shrugged his shoulders.

"So in other words, you are under my protection. You are the most important person in my life at the moment" Chris said.

Zane didn't know what to think about Chris' reasoning however he did come up with some valid points.

'I guess I am not going then' Zane thought as Chris threw away the paper with the address.
