(Side-Chapter) Oh, Cats!

"Urgh..."

I was so hungry, I could hear my stomach, even through my mask and thick hair. I walk around and find some places to eat at, but none of them are my cravings. The people passing me are either confused, concerned, or scared of my appearance. Weird. I suddenly see a restaurant that I wanted and rushed there to the entrance. 'Jasmine Cat Cafe'.

I sigh wistfully. Cats...

I walk in and find a seat near a window. There are actual cats! And the boss cat! The one with a golden bell! I smile under my mask and wait.

A maid comes out of nowhere, scaring the daylights out of me, and scaring the kitty on my table, and it jumped down to the floor with a silent landing. "Hello there, nya!" the waitress said with annoyingly high voice. Her dress was pink and had ruffles on it. It had a thick string that acted like a cat tail, and she had pink cat ears on her head.

So. Fucking. Annoying.

"What would you like to eat, nya?" she asked me. I pulled out my notebook and pencil from my hands and wrote. I showed my answer to her. 'May I have your Sweet KittyCakes and Choco Milkshake of Divine please? And make sure that the milkshake has 5% caffeine in it. I need the rush.' She read it and nodded. "I'll get you your orders, ma'am, nya!" she said happily. I nodded. I waited as a thought popped into my head...

My notebook and pencil appeared out of my hands.

And I have no backpack with me.

I try not to seem obvious that I'm panicking. I really did. A cat jumps onto my lap. The boss cat. I pet it gently as I watch the customers in every table. There were couples and kids around. They had bright smiles, and pearly whites. They had those rainbow-like eyes, such a tender look on their soft faces. The gentle touch they gave to felines makes me want it so badly.

If only...

Just only...

For a moment...

I could-

"Here are your treats, nya!"

I snap back from reality. My hand was slightly extended, reaching for a girl petting a white cat. I look up at the waitress who's holding a silver tray that had my order. She sets down three cupcakes with cat designs, and a brown milkshake, designed with chocolate chips on top of shiny whipped cream, and the faint aroma of coffee. I lift my mask off and nod my thanks to her. She had a small blush on her cheeks, but left anyway, with a fast stride. I wonder why. I take a cupcake and bit on it. It's strawberry. The others are the same flavor. I pick up the straw and stirred my milkshake. I sink into the pleasant flavor of the foods...

Just for once...

One touch is enough.
