Chapter 239

Drethia Kingdom, The Castle of Drethia's King, it was a place that not many dared to venture freely. The entire kingdom of Drethia was known as one of the most dangerous kingdoms. Being the farthest kingdom to the east of the continent it was the coldest. Vampires had no sense of temperature so the intense cold was nothing for them to worry about. In ancient times the kingdom's palace had been modified by Drethia's king. Even if someone invaded the kingdom the palace being modified into a protected castle made it difficult to target the king directly.

Their king was a demi god, rank five. He was both of the dragon and vampire bloodline making his lifespan extremely long compared to any average dragon. His entire life had been devoted to serving his lord, his god, Chynir. Loyalty to Chynir was unquestionable for others who knew the truth behind the king of Drethia. Since he could not ascend to become a god himself he'd devoted everything to getting as close to becoming one as he possibly could reach.

The palace was a dark place decorated in black and maroon. It was as if the king enjoyed looking at things that closely resembled the color of the blood he enjoyed drinking.

In Drethia nobody dared to venture unless they had method to protect themselves. The vampires did not outlaw killing mortals on the streets. If you stepped foot in Drethia the king would not care if one of his own kind took you as a source of food. That was why reaching out to the Drethia king was such a difficult task.

Not only would the king allow his kind to slaughter other races for food right off the streets; the only time he looked for another race himself was when he desired to eat. The king looked down on other races. Perhaps it was a trait from being born from two of the most prideful races known to the continent.

How did that prince ever convince the Drethia king to speak to him without drinking him dry? Vulen thought to himself as he walked along the corridor of the Drethia Castle.

No, I was lucky the king was willing to meet with me and not kill me regardless of that letter from Curtis. General Vulen was not certain that Curtis would have been able to get him a meeting with the Drethia king back then. He had merely been grasping at straws for a way to move forward. There was nothing he could do unless he resorted to other methods of dealing with the beast for his queen.

A few months back he never would have thought he would be walking freely inside Drethia's Castle. He could still recall the meeting with the king of Drethia clearly in his mind.

"Do you think if you bring a letter from that useless child that I will spare your life after coming to me?" The king had questioned him with a heavy lust for blood in his gaze. He'd had no interest in General Vulen nor what would bring the general to him so desperately.

"No," Vulen had been honest with the king, "but I thought you might be willing to listen to a deal with the Kingdom of Yiven."

"You're making a deal under the name of your king?" He'd asked Vulen with a confused expression on his face just as Curtis had when he'd heard the mention of the Yiven King.

The King of Drethia had not been certain how to take General Vulen's words at the time. However listening to Vulen's offer until the very end the king had kept his attention on everything the general said to him. When a deal was mentioned under the name of the Yiven king the king of Drethia was deeply curious about it. He wanted to know what Vulen would offer him if he was willing to use the name of his own king.

"You can really make such a deal in the name of your king?" The Drethia King had questioned his offer just as Curtis had.

"Yes." Vulen had gave a single word answer instantly without hesitation.

"I wont care about what happens to you if I accept your deal," The king had confronted General Vulen openly about the deal he was offering him, "if you're caught for treason against your own king you understand they will have your head."

"I know the cost of defying my own kingdom." General Vulen had said to him firmly.

"Do you think she will protect you if something goes wrong with your plan?" The king had bluntly asked as if he was prying into something interesting.

General Vulen could recall the way his heart ached at those words and the answer he'd given had came slow as the words felt sour in his mouth, "No, she would never consider doing such a thing for me."

Ever since that day Vulen had been moving about the Castle of the King of Drethia. There were things he had to take care of before he could move again. The time he had spent inside Drethia had not been kind to him in the least.

In fact the truth was exactly what the others were hesitant about when listening to General Vulen's deal. In order to gain aid from the king of Drethia and do his best to serve Queen Lyra's wish to deal with the beast he was doing something that he'd not asked permission from his kingdom's own king in order to do. It was a deal that he knew could result in him being punished for treachery against his own kingdom when his king found out the truth of what he'd done. However he was desperately wishing for the only one in his heart to get what it was she wanted.

His home kingdom of Yiven, an elven kingdom that was difficult to reach in the east, was located atop an island that floated above the main ground. In order to reach his kingdom one had to take flight aboard Yiven's air ships. This was an object that only Yiven Kingdom had control over. Their knights even had battleships in case their kingdom directly went to war.

For her I can afford to give Drethia's king an air battleship. Vulen thought as he paused and glanced to the side out the window. Drethia was not much better then a cold land of death compared to other lands. Everything from plant life seemed withered or dying and outside Drethia it was surrounded by a land known as The Witches Garden that was laced with demonic beasts and giant skeletons from ancient beasts that'd died. The vampires never bothered to clean the corpses of ancient beasts after they died since vampires did not need to worry over things like diseases spreading to them from rotting flesh.

"Aack! Please, stop!" The sound of a woman's voice begging came through the corridor like a haunting cry.

Bam! Thud!

General vulen could hear the sounds of a servant being beaten by another who worked inside Drethia's Castle. Gritting his teeth he considered turning away and pretending he'd not seen anything. However when his gaze caught sight of the woman on the ground in tears he hesitated to move. The man towering above her with a sneer on his face seemed to be scolding her as the woman was someone who served one of Drethia's guardians.
