Kobold’s Aura Ability

Matthew had fallen asleep on his grass bed before finally being woken up in the evening by the first kobold kid, telling him that the feast was about to start as some of the hunting group had returned bringing 1 or 2 deers or boars with them.

Matthew then slowly got up from his bed, stretching his whole body before walking towards the first kobold kid who was opening the cloth door.

When Matthew went outside of the house, he could see the sun was barely visible near the horizon, giving an orange shade to the world below it. Matthew's eyes squinted a little as the light reached his eyes, but it didn't bother him too much as it wasn't as bright as afternoon light.

The first kobold kid then led Matthew towards the middle of the village where all the kobolds had prepared for the upcoming feast.

The house that Matthew was living in is located slightly away from the center of the village, but even from there, Matthew could already see a lot of kobolds walking around in the middle of the not-so-small village.

While walking together with the first kobold kid, Matthew realized that the first kobold kid had the same expression as before, where it seemed like he wanted to say something but he was hesitant about it.

So Matthew once again took the lead and asked the first kobold kid,

"What's wrong kid? Something's still bothering you? The humans had run away with their tails tucked between their legs, you don't need to worry about them anymore."

"I know brother Matthew, it's all thanks to you…"

"So why are you still having that gloomy face on? What else is bugging your mind? Do you want to share it with me? I might not have lived as long as your grandpa, but I have some experiences and maybe having another opinion might help you?"

"Thank you, big brother, I do have some things still bothering me, but I have thought about them enough and I am already starting to accept and live with them."

Hearing Matthew worrying about him made the first kobold kid feel even worse than he had doubted Matthew this morning and he even thought that Matthew had broken his promise to help the kobolds and had run away instead.

And that was the thing that he had wanted to say to Matthew. The first kobold kid wanted to apologize for what he thought about Matthew earlier.

'Big brother Matthew single-handedly saved us and the village, I can't forgive myself for ever having that kind of thoughts about him.'

This thought had bothered the first kobold kid ever since this morning. When the human army dispersed and disappeared into the woods, the first kobold kid felt a huge relief and after he had cried and hugged Matthew, he finally remembered the bad thoughts that he had about Matthew just after the human army first arrived.

Matthew heard the first kobold kid's response and he couldn't help but suspect that the first kobold kid is a reincarnator just like him just because the maturity that the first kobold kid showed is way above his age.

'Even not all high schoolers are at this level of maturity.' Matthew thought.

Then he said, "That's good then, but remember if you have something to say to me just say it, whether you need help with something or you just wanted to talk I will gladly help you kid."

The kobold kid then nodded and the two kept on walking closer towards the center of the village where the feast would take place, not too far away from the old kobold's house.

All the preparations had already mostly finished and the only thing left was the roasted boars and deers that were being prepared right after the hunting team brought them into the village.

The campfire in the middle was massive as woods were stacked on top of other woods creating a small tower made out of firewood. Matthew was curious how the kobolds would prepare the boars and deers before roasting them since he had tasted them before and it was quite pleasing to his taste as he usually just ate them raw without any preparations other than opening up their bellies.

Matthew saw the kobolds drain the deers and the boars' blood first before removing their innards before skinning them and cleaning them with water that they got from the well, then the kobolds shoved a long stick through their mouths and it came out of their other ends before sticking them onto the ground, making them stand straight near the huge campfire.

Matthew thought that their preparations were done, but the kobolds then smeared the boars and the deers with some type of herbs mix and it made the exposed meat of the boars and deers have green, leave-like dots all over them.

Matthew started to wonder about the fats on the meat melting and the rich and flavorful taste of the fat infused onto the meat as they got roasted until they had a slight char. Matthew couldn't help but gulp and swallowed a huge amount of saliva several times.

'But wait, how would they roast it?'

The deers and boars are stabbed onto the ground with the sticks that were impaled through them, but they are stationary and there's no way that the boars and deers would be cooked properly if they are only receiving heat from one side.

'And with that huge tower of firewood, the heat would be too hot and the boars and the deers would certainly be scorched and become inedible!' Matthew thought as he was slightly worried that the kobolds would ruin his imagination about the tasty and wonderful roasted meat because they didn't cook them properly.

He wanted to come up to them and warn them about ruining the meat, but after the thought about it, he decided to not do it since he didn't know how the kobolds would cook them and he didn't want to be labeled as a meddling smart a**. And the fact the boar's thigh he ate yesterday was properly cooked, Matthew would trust the kobolds and just let them do their thing.

Matthew continued to observe the kobolds' activities and chatted with some of them. After knowing that Matthew was the one that saved their village, all the kobolds welcomed him with open arms as they asked how Matthew single-handedly drove out the humans, and he even got some admirers that asked how he could become so strong and how did he turn invisible.

Matthew answered them and explained that it's his aura ability, but the kobolds and even the kobold warriors never heard of an aura ability that worked like Matthew's. Matthew was quite puzzled at first as he thought that the kobolds would have their own specific aura abilities like the beasts, but after talking with some of the kobold warriors that could use aura, Matthew found out that the kobolds only use aura to strengthen their bodies and made their attacks faster and stronger similar to the wolves.

The kobold warriors had heard about aura ability, but none of the current kobold warriors had them. The aura ability that they know is when their aura will encase their weapon and strengthen them causing their spears to be stronger and more durable along with the improvements of their bodies' strength, giving the kobolds a huge boost to their combat capabilities.

But it was a rare talent that not all kobold warriors could get and the ones that had the aura ability in this generation of the kobold warriors had already passed away from the humans' ambush on the first day.

One of those talented kobolds is the first kobold kid's father.

Not only was he able to use an aura ability, but his aura also seemed thicker and stronger compared to the other kobold warriors giving him a clear advantage over the others. Paired along with his natural fighting instincts, he was really a model kobold warrior that the other kobold warriors really admired.

'I guess I understand a little why the kid even rejected learning magic from his grandpa. But sadly, he was besieged by numerous humans that were almost as strong as him, it really was unfair.'

As the sky grew darker, the other hunting teams had also come back and brought out the deers and boars with them. The boars and deers were soon prepared like the other meats and they were also placed near the huge campfire.

Darkness soon replaced the sunlight and it is getting hard to see as the kobolds didn't use any torches to light up the village, fortunately, Matthew wasn't quite affected as he had the night vision that he got from the wolf's eyes.

He was wondering when the feast will start and how they will cook the meat so as not to ruin it. And Matthew didn't have to wait for long as he saw the old kobold go out of his house and started walking towards them with his trusty magic staff in his hand.
