The Mysterious Kids

Beast Souls

Since the first day he came to this place, Link did not manage to get a single one. He killed countless creatures, but to his disappointment after every kill, Link did not see the message he longed for.

"Good morning" Link greeted the Guild's receptionist with a smile.

"Morning Link, you're taking another Quest?" She asked.

"No, I wanted to know where I could get my hands on some Beast Souls. I've been having the worst luck" He said.

"Beast Souls?" The Receptionist frowned, confusion obvious on her face.

"Y.. Yeah" Link answered reluctantly. "What's with her expression?" Link thought to himself.

"What is that? A kind of Beast Core?" She asked.

Link froze for a bit. All the days he spent hunting and consuming Cores, he always thought that not landing a single Beast Soul was due to his bad luck, but from the answer he received, Link put two and two together.

"Do Beast Souls not exist here?" He thought to himself "I heard that in each Continent, Different Gods rule. This is interesting"

Link apologized and ran out. He noticed that the names of the Gods they worship here were completely different from the names he knew back in his old continent, but he didn't think it was of much importance.

"Does that mean the Gods of this land offered different gifts to their people?" Link thought, excitement appearing on his face. He headed towards the Library, looking for more information.

Just like in his original continent, The stories about the Gifts from the Gods were nothing more than legends that most people were unaware of.

People here chose the God of Life, which they worshiped mainly, while other Gods were forgotten or barely had any followers.

Link failed to find out anything about them though. A lot of the information was missing. But he did find out one thing. Unlike the Beast Souls that the Goddess of Magic gave to the people back in Link's old continent. The God of Life offered something completely different.

'Blessings'

The Blessing of the God of Life. This was something bestowed on all the people that lived here. And with it, they can survive the worst injuries as long as they receive treatment in time.

Healing Magic is unlike the modern medical treatments back on earth. What healing Magic does is push the natural healing capabilities of the body to another level, powered by Mana it becomes faster and more accurate. But if the body receives critical damage, for people with the Blessing of the God of Life. Their body becomes in complete harmony with the Healing Magic, boosting its effects to a shocking level. People might even survive a stab to the heart as long as they started the treatment in time. They can even come back from the dead as long as the treatment happened before their brain shuts off after 3 minutes.

Link found it very interesting, but since it was not something physical he could get his hands on, Link was bummed. he couldn't offer Gold or trick the God of Life into bestowing the same blessing on him after all.

"I don't really need something like that in the first place. I saw Skills in the shop that can help me survive even if I get beheaded, I just need to work hard and collect enough Skill Points for them." Link tried to make himself feel better. That blessing really seemed like a good thing to have. On top of that he couldn't find out anything about what the other Gods offered, or what their names were.

With nothing to gain, Link left to do his usual routine. Hunting, Hunting and Hunting. He was no longer doing it for the Gold, since he already collected the 10 000 GC required by the Academy, but he did not want to leave this place yet. It was an open buffet of monsters.

Back at the Academy, Creatures were too smart and rare to find them in abundance like here. He would have to look for a whole day and barely manage to kill 10 of them.

Link was back to his usual spot, The Dead Forest, but this time he kept some distance from the Mountain. He knew well that he was no match for those things.

"Ghouls.. What a disgusting existence, i can't believe those things were people at one point" Link muttered.

<Believe it. That's what happens when you shake hands with the God of the Dead>

"Wait a second" Link suddenly realized something "You said the God of the Dead, not the God of Death. Is that another God belonging to this land?" Link asked.

<No, you're thinking about this too much. The God of the Death belongs to no Land so forget about whatever you were thinking>

"The God of Death belongs to my original continent, but this God of the Dead belongs to nothing? Why is that? Don't lands need him? Their names sound similar, do they have the same powers?" Link asked.

<The God of Death and the God of the Dead are completely different Gods with different roles and powers. one deals with Death itself, while the other deals with the Dead, as in the Undead>

"That's confusing, stop. Whatever, i don't care." Link sighed "Time to kill some mobs"

<Mobs?>

"Nothing" Link smiled, as he jumped in the middle of a group of Zombies.

"We're in trouble" A middle aged man spoke, a woman in a fancy dress stood in front of him. It was Lilia.

"Ghouls.. That Cowardly Lord will definitely use these Creatures as an excuse to ask for reinforcements. We can't let that happen.. Who the hell discovered them anyways? You work for the Adventurer's Guild, why didn't you stop or mistrust the information" She asked.

"It wouldn't have worked even if i tried. There's this kid, he's a Gold Ranked Adventurer and got there in mere months. People wouldn't just look the other way if someone like that brought such information." The man was Egon, the one that tested Link for his Guild membership.

"A kid? Describe him for me" Lilia spoke.

"Why?" Egon asked.

"Just do it"

Egon described Link with details, though he didn't have to. All he needed to describe were his purple eyes and Lilia would have recognized him.

"It's that kid again!" Lilia remembers Link well. He was not someone they could forget after what he has done.

"You know him?" Egon asked. Lilia told him about what happened, he frowned.

"I knew it" Egon sighed "He is from that place"

"What are you talking about?" Lilia was intrigued. Link caught her eye, especially how he managed to escape that day got this Magic maniac very interested in him.

"Every year, a mysterious group of kids appear all over our continent. The Royals of every kingdom tried to investigate but they either got nowhere, or got so close that the whole royal family ended up dead. So all investigations were stopped and the Kids were left alone" Egon explained.

"What? If he's from such a powerful place, should we leave him be?" Lilia frowned. She trusted everything Egon had told her. He is a veteran of the highest caliber. He infiltrated Guilds, Clans, Castles and many more. If he spoke of something with this much confidence, it means he was not messing around.

"The forces behind these kids interfere whenever their identities are at risk. Many tried to kidnap and interrogate them but they were saved instantly and the kids were never seen again. But i am sure of one thing. They sent them out to train them. To weed out the weak. Although they are terrifying, when this Link kid is this strong. it makes you wonder about their adults" Egon sighed "No worries, i am sure as long as we don't ask about them, even if we kill this kid they will not interfere"

"You seem to know a lot" Lilia was a bit shocked.

"It's my job" Egon said proudly "We'll proceed with Plan B. We have to finish this before the Reinforcements arrive"

<New Active Skill Acquired>

"Damn it, another useless Skill" Link sighed.

<You can still sell them though, you're not really losing here>

"I have to sell so many Skills just to get enough for a single good one. It's a pain" Link continued "It's getting late, let's head back" Link turned to leave, when he saw a familiar face.

"Hey there. We meet again" Lilia stood there, waving at him. Next to her, Link saw the archer, a man with a long beard and a black robe with 3 Guards standing behind him.

"You didn't say goodbye to big sister last time we met" Lilia smiled sinisterly. She looked at Link over and thought of Egon's words. "I'll trust you Egon. There better not be someone taking revenge for him later or i'm beating you up" She thought to herself.

On the other hand, Link was confused. He did not understand what these people were doing here. Coming after him specifically was not what he expected.

"Recollection" Link muttered.

"No you don't" Lilia suddenly spoke. The area around Link was distorted, the space cracked, but Link was still standing there. He coughed out blood as he held his chest.

"What was that? It took half my HP" Link thought to himself.

"You like it? It's a distortion field. I brought it just for you" Lilia winked at him playfully.

Link glared at the group in front of him. Slowly standing up straight as he casted Heal on himself.

"You think I'm the same as last time? You'll regret coming to me" Link muttered.

A black Bow appeared in his hands, an arrow already set. Symbols appeared all over his weapon.

Link started pumping Mana into his 'Mana Imprint' Skill. Stones and dust were pushed by a powerful blast. Mana waves flew off of Link. He stood there like a Deity.

"What in God's name is that Mana" Lilia was no longer smiling. Her right eye shone as she looked at Link "He's a total Monster"
